Husband plans to kill me Chapter 376

Marriage was one of those things where only oneself knew if it was good or bad.

Even someone as proud and strong as Joanna had no one to turn to when faced with such difficulties.

I tried to comfort her, "Hey, don't say that. We're friends, and we should support each other."

Joanna nodded, a flicker of gratitude in her eyes.

After a while, she leaned on my shoulder, her voice full of exhaustion, "Caroline, I'm really tired. This marriage has drained me completely. I just want to end it as soon as possible. But considering the situation at home, I can't get a divorce right away..."

I nodded, "I understand, I really do. I've been through something similar before."

"You really get me... though I don't find that comforting."

Who would want their life to be filled with such unexpected troubles if they could help it?

To avoid raising Ronnie's suspicions, we didn't stay long. After chatting with Joanna, we left.

Joanna promised us she wouldn't take any action until we had synchronized our evidence.

On the way back, I thought about her forced strength and couldn't help but say to Royce, "I feel so bad for her."

"Everyone has their own trials. There's nothing we can do about it," Royce shook his head.

In the afternoon, I was at the office handling some paperwork when my phone suddenly rang.

It was Brett's homeroom teacher calling.

His teacher rarely contacted me, and my heart sank as I quickly answered the call.

"Ms. Sharp, Brett was picked up by his father after school today."

The teacher's voice was somewhat urgent. "He said you agreed to it, but something felt off... so I called to confirm."

The papers in my hand fell to the floor, my mind going blank.

Brandon? Why would he pick up Brett?

Since our divorce, he had hardly been involved in Brett's life, let alone voluntarily picking him up.

The previous incidents were all aimed at me, not out of concern for the child.

"I did not agree to this!" I almost shouted, "Brandon has no right to take Brett! Where are they now?"

The teacher was clearly startled by my reaction, her voice trembling, "They just left... Mr. Jordan said he was taking Brett to dinner, but he didn't look well, so..."

I didn't wait to hear the rest of her words and immediately hung up.

I dialed Royce's number.

The phone barely rang once before Royce picked up.

"Royce, Brandon took Brett!"

My voice was filled with uncontrollable panic. "He didn't get my permission, and I'm worried he might harm Brett!"

Royce's tone was stern, "Got it. I'll come get you right away. We'll search around the school area together. Brandon shouldn't have gone far."

A few minutes later, Royce's car was parked outside my office.

I practically jumped into the car, my face pale as I spoke, "Royce, I'm really scared. What if Brandon does something to Brett?"

Royce held my hand, his voice firm, "He won't. We'll find Brett. Brandon may be impulsive, but he wouldn't harm Brett."

That was the best-case scenario.

I nodded, but my heart remained restless.

I knew Brandon's personality too well. Once he lost his temper, he was capable of anything.

He was, after all, a member of the Jordan family, with their blood running through his veins.

Thinking about what Karen and the others had done before, I shivered.

We arrived near the school and began searching along the streets.

Royce drove while making several calls to friends, asking them to keep an eye out for Brandon's car.

We also had Simon investigate.

I called Brandon countless times, but he never answered.

Just when we were about to lose hope, Royce's phone rang.

He answered, listened for a few moments, then his expression turned serious, "Got it. We'll head over right away."

After hanging up, he turned to me, "Someone saw Brandon's car heading towards Starry Sky District. Let's go check it out."

My heart tightened.

Starry Sky District? That area was deserted. What was Brandon planning to do there with Brett?

We sped towards the district and finally found Brandon's car near an abandoned factory.

It was the same car Lowell had picked him up in before; I remembered it clearly.

Thinking this might involve Lowell made me nearly faint.

Royce parked the car and gestured for me to stay inside, "Caroline, wait here. I'll go check."

I shook my head, my voice firm, "No, I'm going with you. Brett is my child; I can't just sit here and wait."

Royce knew he couldn't argue with me, so he said, "Alright, but stay close to me."

We quietly entered the factory.

It was dark inside, with a musty smell hanging in the air.

I stayed close behind Royce, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it would burst out of my chest.

Suddenly, we heard Brett's voice, "Dad, where are you taking me? I want to go home!"

My heart tightened, and I immediately ran towards the sound.

Royce tried to hold me back, but it was too late.

I burst into a room and saw Brandon gripping Brett's wrist, his face dark.

Brett saw me and immediately started crying, "Mom!"

Brandon's face twisted into a cold smile, "Caroline, you finally made it."

I forced myself to stay calm, trying to keep my voice steady, "Brandon, what are you doing? Let go of Brett!"

Brandon sneered, his tone full of mockery, "I want you to know you'll never escape me. Brett is my son. I have the right to take him!"

I bit my lip, holding back the urge to curse.

Brandon's mental state was clearly unstable, and I had to handle this carefully.

"Brandon, calm down." I tried to sound gentle, "Brett is your son, but you know the court granted me custody. Doing this will only get you into trouble."

Brandon's face grew darker, his tone becoming manic, "Trouble? I don't care! Caroline, you ruined everything for me, and now you'll know what it's like to lose!"

As he spoke, he suddenly pulled a knife from his pocket and held it to Brett's throat.

Brett cried out in fear, "Mom, help me!"

He probably had never seen Brandon like this before.

The psychological trauma this would cause him was likely irreversible...

Tears streamed down my face, "You know he's your child! What are you doing?"

I almost rushed forward, but Royce held me back.

He whispered to me, "Don't act rashly. Let me handle this."

I stepped back, nervously watching Brett.
