The night became tiresome to the point she could no longer put up with a false perception of at ease. Excusing herself, Alexia signaled for the women to disperse.

Saying their goodbyes, each female went in their direction. The Queen gave orders to the guards to see that the slightly more inebriated females made it to their correct chambers. She did not want any mayhem or anyone ending up in the fountain in their undergarments.

Leaving the area she could see Harley's head bobbing from lack of sleep as she did her best to stay at attention.

Startling her secretary, she touched her shoulder and commanded she retire for the evening. When she tried to protest, she gave a look that said it was not up for negotiation that sent her on her way.

Down the hall, the males were still enjoying their drinks and their conversation hummed. Deciding not to wait for her mate, Alexia headed back to their chambers.

Alexia arrived back at their chambers long before Caspian returned. She stripped out of her dress and let the fabric fall and gather on the floor. She placed her crown on the bedside table where it shined even in the dark. Crawling into bed she wrapped herself in the blankets as she held herself.

Her thoughts were consumed by what she lacked. She compared herself to others, seeing others accomplish something she hadn’t.

The royal couple had engaged in the act of love often since their initial mating. Yet still they were without an heir.

Worrying about her ability to provide an heir, tears silently slipped from her eyes. Sniffling she drifted to sleep consumed by her angst.

The morning came quickly. Between her falling sleep and the rising sun, Caspian had slipped into bed. He gently snored in his sleep as Alexia sat up studying his face.

The slight darkness under his eyes was evidence of his lack of sleep recently. His body would twitch and his hands close as if he were fighting some threat. Not wanting to startle him, she quietly slipped from the bed and tip-toed across the room gently shutting the door to the bathroom behind her.

They were tired. A long night before so they slept in later than they usually would. The sun had already made an appearance in the morning sky.

Already, the palace would be humming in activity as the servants began preparations for the day.

Looking in the mirror her hair was disheveled and her eyes red with her skin looking dehydrated. Stepping under the hot water, she allowed the heat to soften her tightened muscles. She washing away the stress from the night before.

Emerging she sat out to work on her skin applying moisturizers and creams to help alleviate the state of her skin. Giving her skin a break she tried to tame her hair by styling it into place. Looking herself in the mirror she could no longer see the pain that was on her features from before but it was still there in the depths of her heart.

Since the prince had requested a tour, she styled herself with a lovely blouse and trousers but opted for a comfortable pair of heels. Harley had laid the outfit out, the night before while the royal couple enjoyed dinner with their guests. The heels would remind her to keep her head up and shoulders back. She bowed to no one.

Every outfit during the Prince’s visit had been carefully curated with backups in case of an emergency. Alexia had spent days trying on outfits and having them tailored to fit her perfectly.

She was placing her gold hoops into her ears when the door opened. Caspian steeped in a little groggy huffing a “Good Morning.”

“Good Morning love” Alexia responded before receiving a kiss on the lips from her mate.

He went straight to the shower, hoping it would help wake him up. It did not take long as he washed his body and splashed his face with water. Groaning he turned off the water and stepped out.

By the time he had emerged, Alexia had finished her makeup, opting to do it herself instead of having an artist apply a full face as she had the night before.

As he drying off Alexia looked up after applying her lipstick. “How was your evening?”

A sigh came from him “I would have much rather spent after dinner with you but Gabe was determined to get something out of Dristan.”

“Was he successful?” Her interest peaked.

He shrugged. “Sort of. He defiantly got him drunk however he was too drunk to function. His beta carried him to bed. On the bright side, I don’t believe we will be seeing him at breakfast. Or most of the day for that matter.” The fact alone put the king in a better mood. If he could catapult the prince out the doors of the palace he would.

Alexia huffed a laugh “Pity.”

“Rufus tried to get him to slow down but Gabe kept goading him like a champ.” He chuckled pleased with his beta.

She turned to look at him quizzically “Who is Rufus?”

“The beta.” He clarified.

“His name is Ruhn.” Correcting him she turned to look at herself in the vanity mirror.

“Does it matter?” He said with a voice of indifference.

“In a polite society, it does as it is good manners.” Matter of fact she stated.

“Unfortunately, I’m not thinking very polite thoughts.” Her arms encased her waist playing with her waistband as he stood behind her.

She could feel him harden as he pulled her flush against his body. The heat rose in her cheeks. His lips gently began to kiss her neck. Not having shaved his face yet, his stubbly tickled her skin causing her to shiver.

His towel was wrapped around his waist barely separating them. The muscles of his chest and abs were glistening as water ran down from his hair.

Frozen in place, she watched him in the mirror. Her body reacted to each touch eager for more.

Frowning, she tried to stop him “We don’t have time.”

“I can make time.” Another kiss followed as he ignored her protest.

“You will mess up my outfit.” She insisted.

“Fine.” He relented. “But next time I’m stripping you bare and bending you over.” His eyes were full of promise that excited her almost causing her to lose her resolve.

However, the others would gather for breakfast soon and she did not want to smell of sex as she ate with the entire family.

Trying to shake the thoughts of her mate taking her over the vanity was harder than she would have hoped. She had almost convinced herself that she had plenty of time to shower again and get dressed but the clock chimed and ended that notion.

Quickly, Caspian shed the towel before quickly dressing in his suit that had been laid out for him.

Finally, Caspian was dressed, and even though she could make the outlines of muscles under his shirt, they were not on full display to tempt her.

Reaching out his hand, she intertwined it with hers. The night had been a restless sleep for her but when she connected with her mate, her body relaxed. His presence and even his smell could help vanquish any of her worries.

The angst that had consumed her the night before would be back but for now, she enjoyed her time with her mate.
