The White Wolf Chapter 85: Morning Arguing

The words would not come to her as her mind seemed to be lagging. However, it seemed Caspain was not really needing an answer as he launched into his rant.

"I cannot possibly fathom a good enough reason as to why you would leave the palace in lockdown! Then go into the forest alone! Where rogues were lurking since we had not cleared them out yet!" His face was red and his restraint was weakening as he raised his voice.

He walked over to the closet and threw off the robe that was wrapped around him without a care as it landed on the floor in a crumpled mess. Keeping silent she watched his movements.

“Do you have any idea how scared I was that you were hurt or worse?” He said stepping out of the closet to speak bare-chested with only pants on, his eyes bore into her.

Going back into the closet the walls blocked his voice. “Immeasurable fear.”

"I'm sorry," Alexia said in a small voice trying to pacify her mate but her words fell on deaf ears as he was too consumed in his ranting.

Emerging fully clothed. “Absolutely immeasurable.” He finally stopped talking and stared at her waiting for her to speak.

“I saw a rogue and I didn’t want it to get away…” She said meekly feeling the urge to say something from his gaze.

"You knowingly went in after a rogue!" He roared in disbelief throwing his hands into the air. He began to pace back and forth in front of her like a caged beast waiting to be let out.

Picking up where he left off "Completely reckless! You know we had warriors die right? Battle-harderned warriors lost their lives but there you go off galavanting around the forest after rogue instead of notifying a guard!"

“I couldn’t have just stood by and done nothing what if more people died because I failed to act? It could have gotten away!” She shot back with a bite!

“Oh yes, you should have!” He said stopping in front of her. “You are the queen, you should have stayed here in the palace where it was safe!”

“And you’re the king! Yet you went straight into the danger!” Her temper began to flare thinking of him in danger.

With a scoff, he crossed his arms and turned away. “It’s completely different."

Offended her lip curled at the side. "How is it different?" The words came out slowly.

He seemed to contemplate his words carefully before speaking "I am the king, trained to protect my people."

"And I am not? I guess imagined the training my father put me through." She said sarcastically.

"You have not seen battle, training is great but you've never been tested." He said matter of matter-of-factly crossing his arms with a pointed look.

Alexia's hands clenched her fists "I am a white wolf. I can hold my own." She said through gritted teeth.:

Throwing his hands up in exasperation he raised his voice "Another reason you should have stayed in the palace! You could have put a target on your back!"

"I cannot stay locked away in the palace forever! It would be better to just be open about my fur than trying to keep it a secret." She roared, years of built of angust releasing.

"That is a discussion for a different day, if your father thought it best to keep it a secret there is a reason and we're not going to just start telling everyone you are a white wolf."

"It should be my choice if I keep my life a secret!" Firing back her face grew red.

For years she had been kept hidden by her parents and she was done with it. If she wanted to run in her wolf in front of everyone, she would. She took deep breaths that came quickly as she released her pent-up feelings.

Caspian waited for her to calm down a little, once her breathing seemed to settle a bit, he spoke "What about your brother? What about him? What if he becomes a target? Did you think about that?" He said stopping her dead in her tracks.

The response stopped her dead in her tracks, her face went white as the blood drained from her face. Apart from her mate Luca was the closest person she had. Her brother, her twin, had always been there for her and knew her better than anyone.

She could not think of a response to his questions. He got her and he knew it, a low blow but an effective one. The gaze in his eyes softened as he spoke to her knowing she could not refute him. "We can discuss the matter further but now is not the time."

Not able to make eye contact, she looked away. She knew he was right but did not want to admit it. "Fine." She said through gritted teeth.

"I have some work to do." He said looking at her his voice to its normal level even though his body was still tense but her gaze did not meet his. "I do not want you to leave these chambers. If I have to go looking for you again, I do not know what I will do."

Her mind screamed at her to defy him and to not allow her to give in but after some time had passed, she dipped her in a nod.

Caspian stared at her wondering if she was being true before turning and leaving the room.

She stood for what felt like forever replaying their conversation in her head. Eventually, she made her way to the bathroom where she washed her body of the forest.

Once she was cleaned and dressed into her pajamas, she strolled out of the closet somberly.

Stopping at the window she peeked out to survey her surroundings. She saw an increase in guards stationed around the outside of her chambers which caused her to roll her eyes in annoyance and turn away from the window.

Picking her phone up from the nightstand, she had very few notifications. Nothing from her parents, so she thanked the goddess they had not been informed of her escapade. At least not yet.

Climbing into bed, the exhaustion caught up with her and she quickly fell asleep.
