Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 54: Interviews
“Shoulders back. Chin high.” Judy directed Alexia from her own chair, not even bothering to look up from her phone. Sensing her mood, then reaching over to grasp her own coffee cup, she took a slow drink. The queen mother took her coffee without cream or sugar, years of court life wearing on her.
“What is all this?” Alexia asked about the stack of papers she had been given. A sip from her own coffee that was a shade of very light brown, containing ample amounts of cream and sugar.
“Background checks. Any potential candidate goes through the process before even speaking with you. It saves time by helping weed out anyone who may have skeletons in their closet.”
“Huh.” The silence enveloping around them.
As the first candidate walked into the room, Alexia’s mind went blank with the realization that she had no idea what she was doing or how to conduct an interview.
Shifting nervously in her seat, Charles escorted the wolf they would be interviewing towards the seated ladies. Judy noted the action.
Charles voice carried in as he directed the first candidate to follow him. As they came into view, Alexia saw a woman of normal build and height. Nothing stood out to Alexia but she wore a welcoming smile.
“Please, have a seat.” Alexia said gesturing with her hand toward the couch before her. The gesture lacked confidence. Charles handed the women’s resume to Alexia as the candidate took a seat.
“Thank you, your highness.” She said sitting on the couch that was at least a decade old but looked brand new.
“So… who are you and tell me a little about yourself.” The questions were so basic, they caused Alexia to cringe a little as they left her mouth. She could not think of anything to ask, so was left to resort to asking such basic questions.
“My name is Moria. I’ve lived in the capitol all my life as have my parents..” The words of the candidate were quickly drowned out by the ones in Alexia’s head. So much so, that she didn’t even notice when she stopped talking causing her to quickly look at the resume in her hands.
She shifted the paper in her hand nervously, looking down at the words, hoping for inspiration. Scrunching her eyebrows she struggled to find the right words.
“Walk us through your resume.” Judy cut in, sensing the panic in her daughter-in-law.
Alexia did not hear the words that answered Judy’s question, only focusing on the relief she felt.
Moria began. “I worked for several different companies in a secretary position. From auto companies to software manufacturers…” She gave an extensive explanation.
"Why do you believe you are the best fit for this position?" Judy continued in her questioning. Alexia allowed her to take the lead, happy to watch and observe.
"I am a very hard worker and I get along with others splendidly." The earnestness in her voice echoed in her eyes causing the queen to believe the words she was saying. The queen's mother asked a few more questions which Moria answered willingly and kindly.
“Thank you for your time, we will be in touch.” Judy said rising from her seat and gesturing towards Charles.
“It was a pleasure, to meet you both.” Her words were accompanied by a short bow with a smile before following Charles to the door.
Once the door was shut Alexia let out a breath. “I did not expect it to be so difficult.”
“Get it out of your system. I figured she would be a good one to start with since her resume did not seem to fit the part.” Her eyes scanned her phone as her reading glasses perched on the end of her nose.
Alexia raised her eyebrows. “She had glowing recommendations and an extensive background, which makes you think she would not work out.” She was quite agreeable causing Alexia to not understand why she was not a good fit.
Judy looked up from her screen, moving her glasses to the top of her head before responding. “I’m sure she is quite capable, however, her background is in companies and not in an individualistic approach. The choice is yours though, if you want to hire then do so.”
“Let’s interview some more.” Uncertainty in her voice but she had faith in the queen mother's instinct.
“Good choice.” The glasses returned to their previous position as she returned to the phone.
Alexia waited for Judy to beckon Charles to send the next one. She was startled when she realized her mother-in-law was waiting for her to do it. “Charles, please see the next one in.”
As the interviews went on, Alexia got better with each one. By the end, she could feel the confidence radiating from her body. She felt assured she was doing the right thing as she could tell Judy had completely tuned out and only gave a passing comment every so often.
After a few more interviews, Alexia waited for the next one to enter the room. Passing the time, she worked on her second cup of coffee.
Charles led in a tall, blonde woman who radiated an alpha personality who blew passed the secretary, walking straight up to the queen and queen mother.
The action had Alexia setting down her cup and looking up with her eyebrows raised.
Charles looked uncomfortable with the breech of protocol but Alexia offered him a soothing gesture of her hand that it was alright.
“Good Morning, please have a seat.” Another gesture to the lavish couch across from her. Charles handed her the resume and Alexia began to look over the pieces of paper. A very thorough resume.
“Before we begin I would to thank you for the opportunity.” The woman started off the conversation with a forward resolve.
A soft smile from the queen before looking back at the paper. “You have quite an extensive resume. Tell me a little bit about your experiences and who you are.”
“Yes, I’ve done great work that I am very proud of, with such experiences I expect that I will be compensating for my work quite generously. My name is Rae” She replied bluntly.
