After the afternoon activities, everyone returned to their various chambers to rest before dinner.

They would need to muster their strength before the evening’s festivities. The constant parade of events was never-ending. She prayed Prince Dristan would return home soon. Perhaps he would get under her mate’s skin so badly that he would be driven from the kingdom.

Laying in their bed, Alexia stared up at the ceiling. Slowly her eyes drifted asleep.

There was a knocking at the door that caused Alexia to stir and set up. In a daze, she sat there looking around the room. The knocking continued but she did not answer.

It had appeared that Caspian had not returned and by the time on the clock he should have come back ages ago.

She wondered why he had not returned. Surely he would have needed a shower after golf. Since she was expecting his return, she had not bothered to set an alarm and unknowingly drifted to sleep.

Another knock. “Your Majesty.” She heard Harley’s muffled voice.

“Yes?” She groggily responded.

“I’m so sorry to disturb your rest but the stylists have arrived to fix your hair and makeup for dinner this evening.

“I’ll be ready in five minutes!” Jumping into action, Alexia swung her legs off the bed and sprinted to the bathroom realizing she had overslept.

Hastily she undressed throwing her clothes to the ground. Not even waiting for the water to warm, she jumped into the shower to wash her body.

Emerging mere minutes later she dried off and then wrapped her body in a robe. With slippers on her feet, she exited the bathroom to find Harley already helping the stylists set up.

As the stylists worked in unison. Harley laid out her outfit for the evening, straightening imaginary wrinkles in the fabric.

Soon enough, she was about to get dressed when Caspian came in a flurry of activity quickly crossing the room to dress and shower.

By the time Alexia was fully dressed, he emerged with perfectly combed hair that was still wet from his shower in his tux. His handsome features stole Alexia’s breath as he wrapped himself in his sash and pinned his medals. By the time he was done, he was ready to leave.

Opting for a delicate tiara comprised of diamonds and rubies that matched the red dress she had adorned her body with, Alexia was ready as well.

Crossing the room Caspian took her hand and kissed her cheek. “You look ravishing.” He praised. “Shall we?” He gestured to the door before offering her arm.

She nodded her head as she wrapped her arm through his. “Yes.”

As they walked, Alexia grew worried and looked at her mate with furrowed brows. “You did not come back to our chambers.”

“I had some matters to attend to.” Brushing off her question, he kept walking as they turned a corner.

“What was it?” She pressed not being discouraged.

“I cannot tell you right now.”

“But I want to know.” Her displeasure was evident in her voice as she gritted her teeth. She felt like he was giving her the runaround and she wanted a straight answer.

“I will tell you later after dinner but right now we don’t have time.”

“Is it serious?”

He stopped and turned to you. “It could be but we don’t have time to discuss it and I don’t want you worrying through dinner.”

“But you will tell me?” her grip on his arm tightened.

“I will but later.” He did his best to reassure her as he felt her worry.

“Promise?” She pleaded hating to be out of the know.

“I swear on my crown.” He brought his lips to hers causing her to forget why she was upset. Only briefing touching their lips, they started on their way again.

Tonight’s dinner came we less nervousness. She calmly walked through the halls. Perhaps it was exhaustion from constantly meeting with others and working between events. Her preparation paid off splendidly as most things seemed to run smoothly.

At their entrance, there was less fanfare as guests were not as eager to see them. The unmated females flocked to praise the prince, occupying most of his time. Allowing the royal couple to mingle amongst the guests.

While Caspian always stayed near his mate, he was exceptionally close. Almost keeping an arm wrapped around a waist or hand on her back as if she would disappear if he did not.

She could feel the protectiveness radiating through his body but its source was unknown.

Speaking with the older alphas and Lunas, Alexia stayed calm and poised. Eventually, her mother and Judy made their way to speak to them.

Caspian tuned out the conversation as Gabe approached him about a matter. The beta’s eyes were focused and his usual carefree facade was gone with a demeanor of seriousness. The change intrigued Alexia but she would not mention it.

“Are you enjoying yourself?” Judy smiled knowingly.

Huffing a laugh, she smiled back. “I cannot wait for them to leave.”

“Did you at least enjoy tea?” Shelia asked hopeful for her daughter’s happiness.

Shooting a glance across the room, she responded “Not as much as Morgan, I believe.”

“No one is enjoying this as much as Morgan.” Shelia concurred looking to her younger daughter who stood next to her protective father whom he could keep a watchful eye on.

“Speaking of tea, there was a matter I wished to discuss with the both of you to get your opinions on.” Her eyes narrowed as her voice turned serious.

She wished she knew all of the answers but she was still learning and growing into her role. Therefore the only thing she could do was speak with those who were wiser than she.

“Go on.” Judy encouraged nodding her head.

She got straight to the point. “Luna Bridgett has asked that her daughter join my household. What would you advise?”

After years of being Queen, Judy told her “I would. You can give her a meaningless role like the lady of flowers in charge of making sure there are fresh flowers in the palace at all times and keep an eye out for treachery .”

“But why would I want to let someone into the palace whom I do not trust?” Confused by the notion, Alexia's eyes narrowed.

In a gentle voice, her mother explained “To watch them. Keep her at arm's length but close enough where you can take her down if need be.”

“It always sounds like a battle.” Her voice echoed the tiredness she felt.

“Life is war. The strong survive.” Judy told her

“Always remember, you’re a fighter.” Shelia encouraged her daughter.
