The morning came and surprisingly Alexia woke up before Caspian their naked bodies intertwined. It was warm and comforting.

She watched him sleep. His peaceful breathing and small snores had him in a relaxed state that she rarely saw.

As his eyes fluttered open the day seemed to begin.

“Good morning.” She whispered her hand on his chest.

“A lovely morning it is.” He replied pulling her tighter. “What is on your schedule for the day?”

Alexia hesitated knowing he would enjoy her leaving the palace. Caspian sensed the change in her mood and turned his head waiting.

“I am going out into the city today.” She announced.

His hand stopped moving up and down on her arm. “You know I don’t like you going out right now. I don’t think it’s safe.”

“You will never think it’s safe enough.” She said sitting up and looking down at him. “It’s one of the things I love about you.” She reached out touching his cheek. “You can send however many guards you like and if anything is amiss we will head right back.

He thought it over. “Who is going with you?”

“Marissa.” She blurted out before adding “And Cynthia.”

His jaw was set as he fought back a blatant no. “If there is the slightest scent that something is wrong you leave.”

She kissed his cheek and hugged his neck before hopping out of bed to take a shower. The water washed away the mixture of their scents. As she emerged, she could hear Caspian speaking on the phone firmly. Security would need to be tight for the queen.

She decided on pants with a sweater heeled boots and her hair pulled back. It was as casual as she could manage.

By the time she was dressed, Caspian was already showered and putting on his clothes. Quickly buttoning his shirt, he came to see her.

“Listen to Enzo, he will protect you,” Caspian told her fighting back and canceling his day to go with her.

“I can protect myself.” She said slightly annoyed.

“Just be careful love.” He said bringing her to him and kissing the top of her head giving her one last long look over before leaving.

Alexia followed behind where Harley greeted her. “The motorcade is ready your majesty.” She beamed.

As they were walking through the halls Luca stopped them. “Are you going out?” He asked.

“Yes,” confusion on her face. “Why?”

“I don’t know, I just don’t think you should go.” He replied vaguely.

“Do you know something?” She asked concern crossing her face.

“No. I just have a feeling, it’s nothing. I’m just being over-cautious with Abi’s condition. I think they call it nesting.” Luca told her.

Her brother’s concern for her was normal and she could only imagine how protective he had gotten with a pregnant mate. “I’ll be ok.” She said soothingly.

He nodded. “Have a good time.” Before stepping away.

They made their way to the side entrance to not attract unnecessary attention. Enzo joined them on their journey following behind. Marissa and Cynthia were waiting by the doors.

Startled Enzo pushed in shock as he saw Cynthia standing there. He quickly recovered and began inspecting the motorcade walking around the cars and speaking to the security detail.

“Your Majesty.” Marissa greeted as she in Cynthia curtsied in unison. “Our tour begins with breakfast.”

Feeling famished, the idea was enticing “Great, let’s get moving.”

After Enzo inspected the motorcade they climbed into the vehicles.

The females all rode in one SUV. Marissa sat in front of the car with the driver and Cynthia and the queen sat in the middle of the car. Harley occupied the rear. Enzo rode in the lead car watching for danger. The ladies talked in the car during the drive.

“We begin our tour at Harry’s Donuts. It’s been opened for over fifty years and it’s a favorite to all the locals.” Marissa said as the car began to make turns off the main road.

They pulled up to what seemed to be an old garage service station that had been converted into a donut shop. The giant tire on top had been redone to look like a donut. A few security guards arrived before them to check out the building. They were waiting as they pulled into the parking lot.

Doors were opened and the females exited the vehicle. The owner came out with glee on his face. “Your majesty, what an honor is to have you here. I am Ronny.” He bowed in front of the group.

“Thank you for having us on such short notice.” She smiled extending her hand so that he could shake it.

Gladly he took it before ushering her in the door. “It’s my pleasure, please come in.”

They walked in with cases of donuts lining the walls. The checkered flooring had been polished brightly as the lights reflected against it. The night before he left her famished and she could not wait to eat.

There was a small family in the corner eating their breakfast. Their eyes grew wide at the queen's entrance.

Ronny recounted how his father started the donut shop. As he laid out a selection of donuts for the females to try. They each tried a piece of every flavor. Ronny loaded several boxes to go for the security guards to enjoy later when they were not on duty.

They took pictures with the family and Ronny before quickly being on their way to not attract too much attention.

Marissa showed Alexia where she would hang out as a child. In some places they did not bother getting out, just driving by.

By lunch, Alexia had gotten a good feel for the city. Marissa took them to a retro drive-in. The motorcade raised some eyebrows but the dark tinted windows did not allow them to see in.

The females were all enchanted with the change of pace. The driver handled the order, having ordered one of everything and milkshakes for all.

It was a lighthearted lunch in the car and as close to normal as Alexia had felt since coming to the palace. Enzo stood outside of the car leaning against the vehicle casually. Alexia rolled down her window far enough to wear her could hear her.

“Do you think we could swing by the orphanage? I want to check in on how everything is going?” Alexia asked Marissa. She mostly wanted to give them a surprise visit. Anyone can be on their best behavior when the queen is coming

Enzo considered it pursing his lips. “If we can be in and out in twenty minutes I don’t think it will be a problem.” It wasn’t a lot of time but it also would keep word from

Getting out.

Harley collected the wrappers and trash and deposited them before the motorcade moved again. On the way there, Alexia filled the females in on her time before when she visited the orphanage. Cynthia’s especially tender heart was touched and wanted to see the children as well.

Finally, they pulled into the drive out front. A security detail came around and opened the queen’s door. Just as she was about to step out Harley stopped her. “Your Majesty, I’ve just received word that a doctor has been sent to see your sister-in-law. She has been experiencing abdominal pain.”

“Oh. Then we should go back-“ her words were cut off by the sound of an explosion. Glass shattered as her body was thrown through the open door. Her ears were ringing as her eyes struggled to open. If she was bleeding she did not know it.

The explosion came from the orphanage. It was fire as the windows had been blown out.

Staggering to her feet she gained her bearing. Guards tried to move her but all she could think about was the children. The children were trapped and before she could comprehend what she was doing, she was running straight into the fire.
