The White Wolf Chapter 35: The New Queen
The castle was bustling with noise as everyone worked excitedly for the ball that evening. A queen had finally come. They had all wished for the king to find his mate and at last he did. A king without a queen was not complete and created unrest.
Many had wondered who the new queen was. The palace staff was exceptionally good at keeping secrets with only a few knowing her identity. The ones that did were beyond excited as her family was very well known.
The alphas and lunas of the land recived their invitation for the ball in honor of the new queen, which caused all to wonder who the king's mate was. It was all anyone could talk about.
Her family would surely be elevated to a position of power. Power was very important to them. Their lives revolved how to gain and how to keep from losing power. Many had try to put their daughters before him over the years hoping they would catch his eye but he had not taken the bait. Others had tried to make Caspian seem as if he was unfit to rule due to his lack of mate and therefore lack of heir. This ball would put all of the alphas in their place.
Garland was drapped from every banister and peppered with tiny blooms of red roses. Flowers were placed on every surface with vibrant blooms, their smell filling the air. Banners of Caspian's family were hung all around the palace. Two large ones were one either side of the grand doors at the entrance of the palace.
The kitchen staff hastily went about their work filling trays with decidant treats that would make the mouth water at their sight. The chefs barked orders to their staff to hurry as the hour was approaching. Champagne was placed into ice to begin to chill for the celebration.
In the grand ball room tables of delicious food pastries, appetizers, and a full stocked bar with a team of bartenders awaiting to serve the impending guests.
An ice sculpture has been carved into Caspian's family crest. At its base was piles of freshly prepared seafood. Oysters and shrimp that had been caught that very morning.
Servants inspected each other's uniforms to make sure not one was out of place, their workload allowing them very little sleep. Servers took up their trays of of appetizers with the arrival of the first guests, greeting them with perfectly placed smiles on their faces.
The murmer of voices and laughter could be heard from the entrance along side the sound of high heels taping againist the floor. As more guests arrived they made small talk amongst themselves, each trying to see if the others knew who the new queen was.
The carpet was freshly cleaned with a brand new red carpet laid down the steps into the palace. The entire palace had been scrubbed clean. At every turn Alexia's reflection shined in bith the ceiling and the floor. The cleaning staff had out done themselves.
Security was tightened around the boundary keeping the beta and gamma exceptionally busy.
Th news of the new queen spread quickly and alphas with their Luna's flocked to the capital to pay their respect each hoping to carry favor with the new royal.
Alexia stood outside of the ballroom doors shifting from foot to foot with every shift the fabric from her dress made a sound againist the floor.
She caught her reflection in the shinning doors as she awaited Caspian to join her. Self doubt began to overtake the longer she sat there. The voices of the alphas and lunas causing her to become anxious and question herself and if she would make a good queen.
Looking at herself she was adorned in her purple gown. The maids had carefully removed any wrinkles that the king and queen’s reunion may have caused.
Her neck held a single pearl drop necklace that complimented the beautiful dress.
Caspian came up behind her interrupting her self doubt.
“My apologies for keeping you waiting.” He said as he kissed her cheek. “But there was something I needed to retrieve.” He continued and Alexia noticed a black box tucked under his arm.
“What is that?” She asked raising her eyebrows.
“This” he said moving the box to show her. “Is a family heirloom.” Opening the lid he continued. “ And now it’s yours”.
As he opened the lid, it revealed the most beautiful tiara. Alexia took in the sight. Her mouth slightly opening as the light reflected off the diamonds sending rainbows across the room. It was elegant and delicate.
“It’s mine?” She asked.
“Only if you want it. We can have a new one made but I’ve seen this one in the family jewels for years and I thought it would look perfect on you. Do you like it?” He asked a little nervous.
“I love it! You’re right it is perfect” she said holding her hands to her chest.
With a smile stretching across his face Caspian reached into the box to retrieve the priceless artifact.
After handing the box to a waiting servant, Caspian placed the tiara upon his mate’s head.
“Perfect.” He said happily before adding “Are you ready?”
With a nod and straightening her shoulders mustering her courage Alexia said simple “Yes”
Caspian looked to a waiting attendant and gave them a pointed look to let them know they were ready to enter.
The trumpets blasted signaling the royal entrance. The sounds of the crowd's voices was extinguishes by the signal that the king and queen were about to enter.
Taking a deep breath Alexia steadied herself, there was no going back after this moment. Caspian held out his arm and she instictively intertwined hers with his and placed her other hand uopn his arm.
Alexia listened as the page said "Their Royal Highnesses, His Majesty King Caspian and Her Majesty Queen Alexia."
The doors opened and Alexia was greeted by hundreds of eyes staring back at her.
