With his jet-black fur, only his eyes were visible in the dark. It was a terrifying sight and Caspian was seething in anger.

His heart had dropped when he learned she had gone missing. Immediately, he ran to the palace looking for any trace of her. Gabe chased after him desperate to keep up not wanting the king to run off on his own. It did not take long for Caspian to increase the distance between them as he ran in at full speed.

Frantically, he searched. Praying the report had been a mistake and instead, she was safely snuggled in their warm bed fast asleep. He told himself over and over she was safe. Gabe was wrong.

His hopes were slashed. His heart sank in his chest as he struggled to breathe. He discovered her clothes, torn from her shifting into her wolf. Her scent was faint and mixed with the smell of a rogue. Not having time to linger in his emotions, he kept moving. Through the forest, he chased after her as her scent barely lingered. It was so faint he was not sure if he was imagining it or not.

Up ahead, his eyes locked in a rogue sniffing the ground that had not heard his approach. How? He did know but his paws dug into the earth as he spurred himself forward. Turning its head in alarm, its eyes went wide as it tried to run away but it was too late. Caspian’s jaws ripped it’s throat from its body in the next second. Blood sprayed over his fur but he did not stop his stride as he spat the flesh from his mouth that lingered in between his teeth.

The interaction added to his anguish, as he did not know if she was ok out in the woods with rogues around. He tried to link her but to no avail. He could not figure out why he was not connecting to her. Residing himself that she was just too far away, it was a double-edged sword as he could not stand not being with her.

Resisting the urge to howl to the moon, he held back afraid it may give away his location to rogues.

Following the trial, he arrived to find the body of the dead rogue. Had he not been a bundle of nerves and on edge, he could have admired the kill and the skill she had shown but now all he could think about was finding her.

He was able to calm his erratic heart a little as it was evident she had fought and won.

There was no sign of her in the area. He sniffed the air hoping to get some sign of her. He followed her scent to the water where he lost her.

It was as if the trees mocked him. Their giant limbs hid her in their depths from him. Branches scraped him as he ran but he paid no mind to their cracking.

He began running like a man unhinged. Pushing his tired body, he ran and ran.

The wind stirred causing him to stop in his tracks. The scent was faint, making him unsure if he was smelling it right. He followed it.

Earlier scouts had been deployed the minute he was informed she was missing. They had crossed paths it had seemed but since they were unfamiliar with her smell they missed the faint traces. He, however, would bathe in that smell of it were possible and could pick it out if it were a drop in the ocean.

His chest was tight as the scent of rogue crossed with her path. He prayed she had not encountered anymore.

Following the trail he sniffed the bushes, concluding she must have hidden from the patrol and probably still hiding. He would need to find her soon.

After searching the vicinity, he followed the trail that led in the opposite direction of the palace.

As he followed the trail he became all consumed in it, barely able to turn in time to see a rogue lunging for him from the thicket.

Seeing movement out of the corner of his eye he turned to dodge the attack. The rogue hit the ground and snarled at the king. Both beasts' heckles rose and stared at each ready to do battle.

Caspian did not have time to waste fighting with this rogue. He growled ferociously as another rogue jumped out to join the other. Starring them both down, he barred his teeth that dripped in Slavia.

The first one jumped at him, teeth going for his throat but Caspian was ready.

The dirty rogue seemed to realize his miscalculation in the air but it was too late. He grabbed it from the air thrashing it around till its neck snapped and went limp. The other rogue tried to slink away before Caspian could get to it but the king was quicker.

Throwing the dead rogue to the side he pounced toward the other, locking his jaws around its throat he squeezed and squeezed till the air in its lungs was empty and its heart stopped beating.

The rogues left a nasty taste in his mouth but he did not have time to think about it. He did not know how many more rogues there were and each passing minute caused him to become more anxious.

Encountering the rogues fueled his rage. A rage his patrol and guards would have to deal with later, till then he ran.

He followed the trail, he ran till he found a small outcropping of rocks. Circling the vicinity he surmised she was hidden away in the rocks. If he tried to get her out now, he was afraid his anger would take over. Feeling her presence, his heart began to slowly calm.

His thoughts took over, now that he was near her. Thinking of her recklessness caused him to grind his teeth as he thought about what could have happened to her.

Leaving her be, he settled into the dark and waited.
