Frozen in place Alexia did not know what to do. The crisp air prickled her fur as she just stared at her mate.

Her breath was caught in her throat as his eyes seemed to pin her down in place.

Caspian finally let out a deep sigh, some of the tension leaving his body as he was able to see her with his own eyes.

Opening her mouth, her jar just hung there in the night unsure of what it was she could say. She saw no way of making the situation better. The blood on his fur caught her attention, or more so the sheer amount of blood that seemed to cover him like a coat.

Closing her mouth she just stood there nervously.

Caspian turned away and walked a few steps before turning back to look at her standing in the same place. When he cocked an eyebrow, it seemed to set her in motion. She followed after him lowering her head slightly.

Studying her face for a few seconds, he broke out into a jog. The direction he headed, told Alexia that she had definitely gone the wrong way. Hanging her head at the shame she followed after him.

They retraced their steps which revealed the additional dead rogues that Caspian had killed. The sight caused her to grimace as she could have been outnumbered and possibly overpowered. Something that would not help her mate's mood.

The ground seemed to be covered in blood, showcasing the king's rage. The bodies mangled from his ferocity, it would be hard to make an identification.

The patrol howled in the distance, no doubt the king had them working overtime due to the breach.

She swore she could see the anger radiating from his body as it tensed causing her to walk as silently as possible. It was as if the creatures of the forest could sense the king's unhappiness as the forest remained quiet and still as none dared to venture out.

As they broke through the edge of the trees, the palace came into sight before them. The area was oddly still with no one around the area and Alexia looked back and forth as she was still in her wolf form. Nervously she looked to Caspian for an answer but he did not spare her a glance as he continued on his march.

As the sun began to break over the horizon the bluish sky greeted them. She knew better than to think the relief of her bed would be there soon.

While the skies were clear a storm was brewing and it would unleash itself soon in an unceasing rage.

Making their way to the side entrance, the doors suddenly opened to reveal Gabe standing in the doorway. The expression he wore was one of concern as he looked at the king and queen. It turned to pity as his eyes met the queen and he slowly began to back away as if trying to not be seen.

Wanting to call after the beta for running away, Alexia pressed her lips together as she could not fault him for wanting to avoid the king’s foul mood. Since she was the cause of the mood and most of it was directed towards her direction she wished to slink off like Gabe but she knew that was not possible.

Running off again would just make the impending lecture worse. With Gabe’s departure, she was once again left alone with her mate.

Caspian walked through the entrance in his wolf form and Alexia somberly followed him. On the floor were two neatly folded bathrobes that Alexia assumed Gabe had placed there as the Beta was nowhere to be seen now.

Changing into his human form, Caspian stood in the entryway stark naked with no shame before picking up one of the robes and wrapping it around his body. He turned to look at Alexia, who stood there in her white fur just watching him.

"Change." His voice that was void of emotion had Alexia immediately complied.

Quickly, she changed out of her wolf form and picked up the other robe that had been laid out for her. She felt confident that there were no others about thanks to the murderous aura that her mate was giving off, squashing any worries she had about someone seeing her naked.

While nudity happened in the wolf world, she was a private person and preferred to keep her body that way. Knowing how possessive her mate was, she knew none would dare come close.

She could see the veins on his forehead and the ones in his arms straining from pressure as his blood boiled in his veins. He walked briskly through the halls with the determination.

Arriving at their chambers, he opened the door and motioned for her to enter with his arm. he followed in after her and shut the door so carefully, that Alexia was sure he was trying to control himself to not slam the door.

Fighting with her stomach, she pushed down her hunger. She did not want to speak but her hunger was growing and threatened to make itself known by rumbling.

Standing in their room Caspian's gaze pinned her into place, she opened her mouth but no words escaped her lips.

A break in the silence came with a nervous knock at the door. Caspian turned with no reaction as if he were expecting it. Opening the door, he took a tray from a servant who quickly hurried away as soon as possible.

Taking long strides he placed the tray on a table and the room. "Eat." He commanded.

Staring at him she did not move. Her stomach rumbled and hunger and Caspain raised his eyebrows at her. If he had not been containing his anger, he would have laughed.

Embarrassed she quickly walked over to the tray and as elegantly as possible she began to devour a piece of bread. She wanted to ask if he was not hungry too as there was enough food for two but then thought better of it.

She ate the bread and the stew that accompanied it, pausing to take drinks of water and still glances at her mate who watched her like a hawk making sure she did not disappear again.

Once she was done, she could no longer prolong the inevitable. Turning to face him, she waited.

Caspian opened his mouth but then shut it to purse his lips in contemplation. Collecting his thoughts his words came out in a terrifying calm. "What could you have possibly been thinking?"
