Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 135: Something in the Air
Harley let out a sigh of relief as she opened the door wide to allow the visitor to
Enter.
“Little Sister” Luca strolled through the door.
“We’re twins,” Alexia said unimpressed.
“Yes, but I was born first.” His finger pointed at her.
“Semantics,” She said dismissively waving him off.
“Details matter.” He quoted their mother who would bustle about the pack house worrying over every little thing. Shelia would care about every place setting down to the last shrimp fork.
“What do I owe the pleasure?” Alexia changed the subject.
“Are you not happy to see me?” He plopped himself down in a chair in front of her desk not bothering to wait for an invitation.
“Of course I am.” She smiled at him, delighted by the unexpected visit. The two would always have a special bond knowing they could rely on the other since the womb.
“It’s a relief I do not have to fire my guards for allowing just anyone to approach my door,” Alexia told her brother.
“Don’t worry they eyes me like a hawk. Not like they could take me.” He smirked.
“How is Abi?” She asked concerned with his unexpected visit his voice softened at the mention of his mate.
They were exempt from all court functions due to Abi’s condition even though she was not far along. Life at court was stressful and a pregnant female did not need the added pressure.
“Good. Good. I have no reason to worry but I am worrying nonetheless.” His hand came to his temple rubbing it.
Gone were their carefree days. It seemed to have happened in a blink of an eye but now they were stepping into the roles they were born to take.
The Crown and the Silver Pack would be the strongest allies due to the mating bond of the king and queen. It would also put a target on the silver’s back to those on a quest for power.
Alexia’s eyes gave him a sympathetic look. “Have you eaten? I was just about to have lunch.” Her sisterly kindness shown through her concern for her brother.
“I have not but if your asking I would join you.” With the amount of training he underwent, he was always hungry.
“Of course. Harley, please send word to the kitchen that we will need another portion for lunch.” Alexia told her as she was glad to be having a lunch companion since Caspian could not join her.
“Right away Your Majesty.” Harley scurried off.
While they waited for lunch to arrive Luca looked at various papers on the Queen’s desk. They discussed the ledgers as Alpha Jacob had been training Luca in such matters since birth.
Looking at her work so far, he concluded she was correct in her assessments and offered some insights.
However, he had no insights into the blood moon celebration planning that she would be meeting with the committee on. He also showed no signs of interest in learning.
Thanks to the efficiency of the kitchen staff lunch arrived swiftly. They moved to Alexia’s sitting area where lunch was arranged to allow them to take their time.
Trays were laid out with different foods. They were given freshly tossed salad containing mixed vegetables topped with seared salmon. The bread was served for them to have if they chose to.
They ate their food peacefully breaking fresh bread together that had steam rising as the crust was broken.
It was easy to get into a conversation between them. They talked about their training and their upbringing. Telling stories of things their mother had done and how they longed for their father’s advice.
They were grown now and had to make their own decisions right or not. It was these moments when they could relax and just enjoy each other's company with no responsibilities that they would cherish more than any jewel or gold.
Once they had finished, Alexia permitted Harley to clear the plates. At the secretary’s order, servants quickly entered to remove the plates. They were gone in a blink of an eye, the servants bowing before they left.
“I guess I was supposed to do that,” Luca said watching the servants.
“And what would that be?” She asked.
“Bow.” He replied earning a snort of amusement from the queen before she took a drink of her glass and then set it back down.
With lunch over, Alexia clasped her hands in her lap and looked at her brother “Was there something you wished to discuss or were you just stopping by to chat?”
Luca’s eyes moved slightly toward Harley’s direction. They had been raised to be careful with what they said and who could hear them. Luca could not even say he knew Harley making it natural for him to be cautious.
“Harley, would you please go see that my jewelry has been properly shined for the evening.” The queen sent away her secretary to give them more privacy so that they might converse freely.
“Of course Your grace,” Harley said bowing and leaving the room.
“Now what is it?” Alexia turned back to her brother. Her schedule was packed but she would always make time for her brother that did not mean she couldn’t hurry him along.
“Do you feel it?” Luca asked his eyes narrowing on her.
“Feel what?” Her head turned to the side as she deciphered his question.
“In the air.” He said gesturing around the room
“What’s in the air?” Her eyebrow quirked up.
“Something is changing in the air.” He told her.
“I’m not sure I do.” Her brow knit together in confusion.
“Maybe I’m imagining things…” he trailed off.
“Tell me.” She pressed her eyes imploring him to continue, this was so out of character for him it was concerning.
“Ever since…”
“Luca just tell me what’s happening. No matter what.” Her patience was wearing thin.
“Fine. I went for a run. There wasn’t anything out of the ordinary but a dusk everything seemed to shift. And then from the trees, this stag stepped out.” He stood up and threw his hands out in front of him before turning his back toward her as he contemplated what he would say next.
“Was it white?” She asked.
His head whipped to her. “How did you know?”
“I saw it too.” Her voice was low as if she were telling a secret.
“Where?” He sat down next to her.
“In the woods.” She began before recounting the rest of her encounter to him. He listened intently to every word without interrupting her.
“I feel like it was trying to tell me something.” He explained. “And ever since then, I’ve felt a change in the air.”
“Maybe it was warning you.” She thought out loud.
“About what?”
“I don’t know.” She said with disappointment she was not able to help more. “Do you think we could be seeing it because of our fur?” Her voice was barely audible.
“That’s what scares me.” He answered her seriously.
