The White Wolf Chapter 121: Honor the Moon Goddess
Enzo did not know how long he had been waiting for Gabe as he stared at the sky alternating between praying to the goddess and cursing his existence. It was well into the night as he did not join the other males for drinks and did not believe his presence would be missed.
Security informed him after most of the guests had retired that the king was returning to his chambers for the evening.
When Gabe finally made an appearance, Enzo did his best to listen as his friend informed him of the situation with Prince Dristan. The Prince's suspicions would be a problem if he looked too closely into the matter.
The king wanted Enzo to pay even closer to the queen, a task he had not been the best at in recent days.
Gabe looked visibly distressed as he informed Enzo of what had happened during their round of golf. Based on their conversation, it was obvious as to what had taken hold of the king as he seemed extra possessive of his mate throughout the evening.
A thought though passed in his mind, this would give him a chance to look into the Prince's personal life without raising any questions. He had to know if something was going on between him and Cynthia as the way he whispered to her plagued him as he replayed the action in his mind.
The night gave way to the dawn as he stood there, taking that as a sign he returned to his chambers to shower and shave so that he did smell like the turmoil that had taken root inside of his mind.
After he seemed somewhat presentable, he made his rounds through the castle, checking with various members of staff and security to see if anything was amiss. Housekeeping reported that the Prince had returned very late and was sleeping quite soundly. "And his court members? Are they asleep as well?" He asked.
"All of the alpha and Luna's are still sleeping. The beta and gamma have already arisen and enjoying breakfast in the dining hall." The young housekeeper told him/
"And the beta's sister? Is she awake?" Automatically he asked about her as he did not care about the alphas or lunas but only she mattered.
The servant seemed confused by his interest but replied "I believe the female is still sleeping, sir."
Enzo nodded as he took in the information not showing any emotion. It gave him peace in his heart to think of her sleeping soundly. His thoughts drifted to what it would feel like to lay next to her with her wrapped inside his embrace.
"Will there be anything else?" She asked hesitantly.
"No, that will be all you may continue with your duties." He cast away any thoughts of longing for her.
She scurried off leaving him standing there before deciding it was time to have breakfast.
He did not know what came over him but he found his legs making their way to the dining hall. Upon entering he found the beta and gamma having breakfast across from one another and talking amongst themselves.
"Gamma Enzo, what a surprise!" Ruhn greeted him looking up from his plate.
"May I join you?" He asked as he crossed the room.
"Of course, we would love your company," Ruhn said pleasantly as the gamma nodded in agreement.
"You are up early, I thought I was the only one awake at this hour," Enzo announced as he sat down next to the gamma.
"Duty never rests but since you are here, there is something we would like to discuss with you." The beta looked at him as he he had cornered his prey.
"Oh?"
"Prince Dristan would like to request a tour of the palace from the Queen," Ruhn explained.
"I thought he already made that request but was unable to attend?" Enzo feigned ignorance not wanting to make the task easy for him.
"He did but unfortunate circumstances did not allow him to attend." The unfortunate circumstances were his hangover.
"That is unfortunate but it is not up to and can only pass along your request to their royal majesties." He tried his best to appear disinterested but if the Prince was with the queen, he would be able to get close to him.
As the breakfast was served, he deliberated whether it would be better for the queen to meet with the prince or not. The coffee helped chase away the evidence of his sleepless night.
Throughout the meal, Ruhn seemed fine with leading the conversation as the gammas just nodded and grunted along. Once they had finished, they sipped their coffee as the servants had kept their cups filled.
"We were going to go train after breakfast if you would like to accompany us?" Ruhn told Enzo as he set his cup down finishing the contents.
Contemplating the offer, Enzo took a drink of his cup. He weighed his options as he could use the opportunity to get to know them better or he could return to his chambers and stare at the wall.
He decided to go with the option that would not leave him alone with his thoughts and would allow him to channel his frustration. "Very well."
As they made their way out of the dining hall, the sun was barely shining and the palace inhabitants were barely starting to stir. Quietly, the servants performed their chores to not wake any guests. They plucked garments of clothing that had been thrown to the wind from the night before in hopes of returning it to the owners. Glasses were collected as they were placed wherever their contents were finished.
Arriving at the training area, they each stretched their muscles. At their age, they each had their routines and ways they preferred to train. Each giving the others space, they set out on their warm-ups.
After they felt sufficiently ready, they began some light sparring. Since they had an odd number they took turns. Pulling the punches, they barely made any contact as they focused on the movements.
Nature called for Geyson as his coffee began to work leaving Enzo and Ruhn alone. Deciding to keep up the training, they stepped into the ring to spar. Their punches were half-hearted.
"Shall we kick it up a notch?" Ruhn asked as he shook his arms to loosen them up and jumped from foot to foot.
Cracking his neck, Enzo accepted the challenge. "Alright"
Watching the beta move, he looked for weaknesses.
Ruhn was slimmer than Enzo but he was quick making his attacks come out of nowhere.
"Your kingdom is known for its warriors and I can see why," Ruhn said trying to distract Enzo who replied with a jab to the side.
"What is your secret to success?" Ruhn continued as he fired another round of attacks.
"You want to know?" Another jab. He had to be careful as his frustration seeped into his blows. If he was more aware he would surely hurt the beta and that could lead to political problems for him later.
He could not help it though, he saw Ruhn as an obstacle standing between him and his mate but on the other hand what if he hurt him and then Cynthia was upset? He did not want her to know pain. So he pulled his punches no matter how much he longed to hit him square in the jaw he aimed for his side.
"Of course, I'm all ears." The beta perked up in interest.
"We honor the moon goddess," Enzo answered as he dodged a barrage of attacks.
"As do we?" Ruhn seemed confused "How do you honor and we do not?"
"We do not arrange mates." With a quick move, he swept the beta's legs causing him to fall over and look at him with stunned eyes.
