The White Wolf Chapter 14: Patrol
Caspian left the library with his heart almost beating out of his chest. A smile firmly planted on his face. He replayed the kiss in his mind, thinking of how she leaned into. Their tongues dancing.
"Dude, whatever you are thinking stop." Gabe said entering the king's study. "This room reeks of your arousal." Gabe said waving his hand around with a disgusted look on his face.
The king growled in response to the beta's interuption.
"Hey now, no need to get testy, I know you have been wound a little tight lately." Gabe smirked as a stapler whirled toward his head. Laughing, Gabe caught it right before it his face and sat down in a chair before placing the stapler back on the desk.
"You're playing with fire Gabe." Enzo stated as he walked in and took a seat.
"Let's get down to business before I strangle Gabe." Caspian said steading himself. "Gabe and I are leaving in an hour for patrol. Enzo hold down the fort and make sure Alexia is taken care of above all else."
The beta and gamma nodded. "How many of the guard are we taking?" Gabe asked.
"Thirty. I don't want to cause any concern to be raised." Caspian stated.
"I'll assemble the gaurd." Gabe said as he and enzo stood up.
"Enzo-" Caspian began as they exited the study. .
"I know. I know. I will keep her safe." Enzo cut him off as he wrapped his arm around him, giving him a reassuring hug.
In an hour the guard was assembled. Caspian gave the command and they shifted into wolf form. Caspain's giant black wolf stood out among the others as he led the way.
They started towards the north border. They were quick and stealth. Bending through trees, jumping over rocks, they moved as the unit of deadly warriors they were.
When night came they decided to make camp after not having seen or smelt anything.
They rose early the next morning, took apart the camp and set out again on their journey. They had been running for a while when the smelt it. Rogues.
"Find which way they headed!" Caspian ordered as scouts dispersered following the trail.
When the scouts came back to report they said "The trail breaks off going two seperate ways. One headed Southwest and the other Southeast."
"We need to stop them before they go any farther. Gabe, take half the men and follow one way and I will take the other half and follow the other." He said and the beta nodded.
The guards were sprinting trying to catch the rogues each following their desinated trail.
Caspain's group was faster, chasing the scent. Eventually the scent grew stronger. They were gaining on them. Something caught Caspian's nose causing him to stop. He sniffed the ground.
The scent was stronger because they were getting closer but this was something different. He could not quite put his finger on it. The other's sniffed as well. Then as if the light went off in his head he realised why.
The scent was stronger because the other group of rogues had looped back around and reformed the origional group.
"*Gabe*" he linked.
"*Find anything?*" the beta asked.
"*Yes the group you're tracking linked back up with the origional group. I am going to wait here untill you catch up. I don't know how many they have." He reported back.
"*We are kicking it into high gear and heading your way, we will be there soon Cas.*" Gabe said as he broke the linked between the two of them.
Caspain sent out two scouts to try and find their locatiion. He did not bring many men to begin with him and not knowing how many rogues there were He did not want to risk confrontation.
While Caspain's group was waiting for Gabe's group they were calm but on alert. They heard a twig snap in the distance, they turned in time to see rogues. Too many to count coming right at them.
"*Battle formations!*" Caspian ordered "*Gabe now would be a good time to show up*" Caspain said bracing himself for the battle that would happen in seconds.
Before the rogues reached them Caspain sent out a call letting all royal guards know they were needed. He tilted back his head and let out a loud howl that even caused the rogues to pause for a second. He then turned his attention back to the rogues.
He growled and launched himself toward them grabbing the closest one to him by the neck and snapping it before dropping it and moving on to another. The fighting was intense and they were far outnumbered. Caspain heard yelps as his men took hits. Thankfully Gabe arrived in a few minutes coming from the other side, diverting the rogues attention.
They gained ground due to the rogues surprise but they were still out numbered. Caspian fought hard. He was hurt, bleeding and out of breathe but he could not stop. His men needed him.
He knew he had lost men but could not take the time to think about that. He had to keep fighting. He looked for a leader in the rogues.
The was a mangy brown and white wolf who was bigger than the others sorrounded by other rogues. Coward. Capsian thought.
Caspain zeroed his focus on him and started fighting his was to get to that wolf. As if sensing it, the mangy wolf let out a growl and more rogues bomboarded the king.
His body was about to give out when a streak of white flew past Caspain. Then another. And then black fur passed him as well as other colors. Just as a rogue lunged for his throat white jaws intercepted it, draining the life from it Dropping it then started on a new target.
The rogues were stunned unable to move, the new wolves went to work immediately tearing through the rogue lines. Caspain regained his senses and fought with new found stregth. There was a white wolf. He looked again. Not just one but two! Two white wolves.
Caspain's heart skipped a beat as he inhaled that scent. That scent he knew better then his own. His eyes focused on the smaller white wolf and he knew.
