The White Wolf Chapter 156: Plans Hatched

There was a circle of alphas who surrounded Gabe demanding answers to their questions. He seemed relaxed under their scorn. Marissa was away speaking with friendly lunas.

Alexia noted that Alpha Marshall was not in attendance. The royal couple had a drink as they spoke with the court before dinner.

It was not an enjoyable drink due to the circumstances. Carefully, Alexia selected the lunas she spoke to not wanting to seem eager to earn their favor or uncaring that could gain distaste.

Very few alphas approached the king, mostly wanting to introduce the king to their offspring in hopes of gaining a position in court.

Caspian told whichever alpha was speaking to him that the recovery had been completed before dinner. Rebuilding would begin the next day and he needed a committee to oversee the construction.

Word quickly spread and many began vying for a position. Alexia felt like they were being closed in on as the circle around them grew and grew.

The lack of sleep gave Alexia an additional icy gaze that she did not hold back from those who annoyed her.

With some sort of self-preservation, Dristan steered clear of the Queen and mingled amongst the alphas.

Finally, it was announced that dinner was served. Alexia handed her glass to Harley before entering the hall.

The king and queen sat next to each other in the middle of the table. Dinner was more intricate than the simple lunch they had partaken in.

The games of the court were back in play now that the initial fear was gone. Whispers were shared amongst one another and plans hatched.

Alexia’s parents were seated near her for comfort. Judy had her gin raining terror down the table and Edmund looked bored.

The conversation seemed to be carried in a circle around the royal couple with few being brave enough to speak to them directly. It was nice to Alexia it felt as if they were on a date.

They spoke to each other about the food and wines. Alexia found herself getting lost in Caspian’s eyes and genuinely smiling.

They linked each other like children about an old Luna who seemed to have grown a faint mustache on her upper lip.

Their laughter was interrupted by Alpha Dennis down the table. “Your Majesties, is the kingdom safe? With your joyous demeanor, I can only assume all is well.”

The room immediately fell silent. Caspian simply replied in a calm manner “It is.” He then continued eating.

Dennis expected more of a reply. “One can never be too careful with the safety of the kingdom.” He was baiting Caspian.

It was Edmund who seemed to come out of his boredom to reply. “How are your borders alpha, Dennis?”

“they are perfectly secure.” Dennis brushed off the prince.

“Are you sure?” Edmund questioned him in front of all.

“Of course I’m sure. I know the workings of my pack.” He bristled at being questioned.

“But how are you sure?” Edmund did not let up.

“We have a seriousness of policy and procedures in place to assure that.” It was obvious to those at the table that Alpha Dennis was not involved in the safety of his pack. He was more worried about making the king look weak.

“What policies?” Edmund saw the weakness and did his best to exploit it.

“I do not think it a good idea to announce the interworkings of my pack.” He deflected again.

“What are secrets among friends?” There was a smile playing on Edmund’s lips that was a bit sinister in intention.

Alpha Genstone spoke up visibly annoyed “Prince Edmund as enthralled as we all are to learn about the safety of the Alpha Dennis’ pack perhaps we should move on to a more pleasant topic like the Blood Moon Celebrations.”

Murmurs quickly filled the room in excitement. Alexia had forgotten all about the preparations. She was sure there were plans on her desk.

Delilah proudly started telling those around her about how she was a part of the planning committee. Her father on the other hand was abnormally quiet.

Seeing the excitement on the faces in the room told Alexia that a celebration was needed. After such a tragedy they needed to celebrate. Most of the approvals were already in place with just a few more needing her seal.

Dessert arrived while the chatter was still lively. Alexia spends most of the time speaking with her mother. They did not speak about her brother. An unspoken rule as the worry would slip onto Shelia’s face from time to time.

Instead, she told her about the improvements that had been made to the Hunting cottage. Shelia begged to let her and Morgan help as she needed a distraction. They agreed that the pair would oversee the toys that had arrived and check to make sure they were all up to standard for the children.

The children would arrive in the afternoon, so they would rise early to finish before they got there.

Dinner came to a close and Alexia rose to lead the females to the drawing room. As they walked Alexia beckoned a familiar face “Luna Amy, do you have a moment.”

“Yes, Your Majesty. How may I be of service?”

“I have a favor to ask of you,” Alexia said as they walked. Her dress slightly swaying.

“If I can I will,” Amy replied in curiosity.

“The children will be arriving in the afternoon. I would like someone to go visit them in the morning on my behalf at the hospital. Not all will be able to leave the hospital. I understand with the events of yesterday it could be unsettling to venture out at this time.” Alexia explained to her. Luna Amy had a tender side and would do well in her stead. Ideally, she would send a member of her family but none of them would be leaving the palace.

“I believe the king has made sure we are safe but I will have my mate accompany me.” Many ears were eavesdropping on their conversation making it the perfect time for her to show her support of the king. The older Luna knew how to play the game.

“Thank you, Luna Amy.” Alexia thanked me for not only accepting the task but also for showing support.

Amy bowed in acknowledgment as they approached the drawing room. Breaking off into groups the ladies played cards and chatted mostly about the blood moon celebration and what they would wear.

“Your Majesty.” Delilah cut through the conversations causing them to die.

Alexia waited a moment before turning her head from her seat by the fireplace. “Yes?” She raised an eyebrow.

“You should wear that beautiful diamond you wore the other night,” Delilah replied.
