Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 53: Interview Morning
The next morning Alexia woke up alone. Caspian had already slipped out the room quietly while she was sleeping.
His scent lingered in the room, reminding her of his presence. A part of her would always miss him and yearn for his presence whenever he was away from her.
A stretch and yawn took her a moment to focus before she was swinging her legs over the side and standing up.
The morning light was creeping up over the horizon with a chill in the air. The cold air caused the hairs on her body to stand at attention.
Her phone sat on the bedside table she reached to grab it, seeing the notifications. A few messages nothing in particular stood out. Her chest tightened as she saw a text from Luca. Him assuring her that he was indeed alright. She cursed herself softly knowing he was worried about her when it should be the other way around.
With a sigh she attempted to release the anxiety building up within her.
The patting of her feet echoed in the room as she made her way to the bathroom. A shower helped wake her up before she sat at the vanity to do her makeup. She was wrapped in the warm embrace of her robe that had her name written in black delicate script.
Today she would, under the direction of Judy, interview secretary candidates.
Wanting to present herself in a professional, no regal, manner she made sure to apply light make up and that her hair was not in disarray.
Surveying her closet she could not decide on what to wear. Shuffling hangers, she went from garment to garment. Eventually she decided on a pair of trousers and a silk blouse. Before exiting the closet, she grabbed s pair of heels, slinging them on her feet.
After adorning herself with jewelry, she emerged ready for the day.
Breakfast would have to be simple and quick as she was already running late. The sound of her heels bounced against the walls. Cutting in and out as she transitioned from hardwood floors to the rugs.
Through the halls she made her way to Judy’s new office, almost getting lost, as she had vacated her old one near Caspian’s office once he and Alexia were mated.
That was something she loved about Judy, she would help but not be overbearing.
She resisted the urge to walk fast so that she would not appear unrefined.
The queen mother was waiting for her outside of her office doors, standing almost at attention. Dressed in a black suit with a print blouse underneath and a gold chain on her neck, she seemed similar to how Alexia was dressed but in a more mature way with her comfortable shoe choice. Her personal secretary a step behind.
At her approach both bowed. “Your royal highness.” Said in unison. The pearl drop earrings on Judy’s ears swayed back and forth.
“My A-“ Alexia began to say my apologies but stopped herself as the queen mother gave her pointed look. “My it’s a beautiful day.”
Judy’s face relaxed in approval. “It is indeed.”
The secretary handed a stake of papers to the queen mother, who did not bother to remove the glasses from the top of head, showed them to Alexia. “We have several candidates that seem to be very promising.”
“Good, I believe we will need as much help as we can muster in the coming days.” Dread seeped into Alexia’s voice. As she surveyed the papers and took them into her arms.
“I will do all that I can to help.” Judy said in a soft voice placing her hand on Alexia’s arm for a few seconds before turning to her secretary. “Have they all arrived?”
“Yes your highness.”
Judy’s eyes zooned in cobwebs that tested on the ceiling in the hallway. “Make sure housekeeping is made aware that the hallway requires some extra attention today.” They were polite words but they left no room for negotiation.
The secretary turned away and immediately began muttering words that seemed to convey the same meaning into his cellphone but not as nice. Once he was done he returned to his previous position.
Alexia turned to her mother in law not knowing what to do next. “Should we begin?”
“We begin when you wish it.” Words to express that Alexis was in charge.
“Then let’s begin.” Determined.
As they made their way into Judy’s new office, Alexia observed the lavish furnishings she had moved from her old office. Pictures of her family were spread throughout the room with a grand portrait of Judy with her mate and sons in full regalia from her younger years as she had added a few pounds and wrinkles since the painting was commissioned.
Judy escorted her to her sitting area where they would conduct the interviews.
In Judy’s sitting area, were two wing backed reading chairs. Upholstered in material that Alexia did not wish to know the cost. They were soft. As if the ladies were sitting on clouds as each occupied one with a small table between them.
In front of them was a couch that was separated by another table.
Charles, Judy’s private secretary stood at attention, notepad in hand ready to brief the women.
Alexia took in Charles. Dressed in a simple black suit and tie she noted that he was older with hair beginning to grey. He was very formal in his approach. A characteristic Alexia wondered how he managed working for Judy.
“Your highnesses, we have several candidates today. They all look very promising but that is for you to decide. Before we begin, is there anything you require?”
“Coffee, please. And perhaps a pastry.”
“Certainly, right away.” Charles bowed then turned to go place the order.
The ladies chatted amongst themselves, Alexia still a little groggy from waking up. They did not have to wait long before a servant brought in a cart carrying a coffee pot and pastries.
Charles directed the servant to place the coffee cart near wall and then served the ladies.
“Charles, did you do that thing with my phone I asked you to do?” Judy asked Charles as she looked up from her screen waiting for his reply with her reading glasses on.
“Yes, your highness.”
Alexia watched on as Charles attempted to help the queen mother with her device. Smiling at Judy’s confusion.
After a few sips from her porcelain coffee cup, Alexia was already feeling much chipper and ready to begin. She quickly munched on a pastry to fill her empty stomach.
“Please show the first one in.” A signal to begin and with that Charles exited the room to bring in the first candidate.
