Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 98: Soft in His Old Age
“So when will he arrive?” A question she needed the answer to.
The first piece of information she would need to know would be how long she had to prepare.
“They are requesting in two weeks' time.” His eyes looked as if he were thinking diligently about the matter.
“Trying to catch us unprepared,” Gabe muttered his annoyance.
Being Alexia’s first time hosting other royals it was imperative she be completely prepared. Since she was a young new queen the thought occurred to her that the Eastern Kingdom was trying to cause her to stumble.
With the information, Gabe retrieved his computer and began to type vigorously as he began to make the necessary preparations. His work was never done and always changing.
While Gabe was working on the logistics, Caspian went back to working on other matters as Alexia began making a task list for herself and Harley to complete. Silence enveloped the room except for the typing and writing that came from the group.
Moving papers into a stack on his desk, the King looked at the Beta with a pointed look "Make sure you inform my mother of the recent changes."
"Do you not think, perhaps that would be a conversation had between the Queen and the Queen Mother? They will be planning together." Gabe said in a diplomatic voice as if he were speaking in a formal setting.
Alexia could not figure out why neither of them wanted to speak to the Queen Mother. What could they have done? Her eyebrows furrowed together in confusion as she looked between the two, "Why are you avoiding Judy? And why are you avoiding your mother?"
Caspian paused and flashed her shy smile, "She is not the happiest with me for sending Edmund out."
Judy had a tendency to fuss over her youngest son since he was her baby even if she threatened to wring his neck on several occasions. His being away without her knowing would send her into a fury.
"And You?" She turned to Gabe.
"I was the messenger."
She turned her gaze to Enzo, who answered her unspoken question "I have superb survival instincts, and am staying out of the line of fire." She could not fault him for not wanting to get involved.
Waving her hand, Alexia let out a sigh "Fine, I will speak to her and inform her of the upcoming arrival."
"You are a benevolent Queen." Gabe complimented her causing her to roll he eyes.
Enzo gave Caspian a report on the border, promptly causing Alexia to tone out of the conversation.
“What else is on our list of things to accomplish today?” Caspian asked Gabe with a sigh.
“We have not solidified the travel arrangements or at least not made your decision official.” Gabe looked tired and was not looking forward to the increase in his workload.
Cutting in, Alexia asked, “What travel arrangements?”
“I need to go make arrangements for the boys to go to their next pack.”
“You’re sending them to a new pack?” It was news to her. They had not been at the last pack for very long but the search must have come up uneventful.
Gabe cut in a dry tone, “Don’t be worried, wait till you hear where he’s sending them.”
She cocked an eyebrow and waited for her mate to fill in the blanks.
“I’m sending them to Diamond Ridge.” He stated.
She smiled “You must love them.”
“He is getting soft in his old age.” Gave laughed.
Doling his eyes at the beta, the King spoke “A little rest and recuperation is good for them.”
“I doubt there will be much resting.” The doubt dripped into her voice. "Have you told them?"
"Not yet. How about I call them now?" As he retrieved his phone.
Caspian retrieved his phone. Placing it next to his ear. After some small talk with his brother, he got to the business at hand. "It seems the pack you are at is a dead end."
He paused as Edmund spoke. "Then I think it is time to move on but where to next..." He trailed off.
He feigned contemplation. "there are many packs to visit in the kingdom. Perhaps Diamond Ridge?"
Edmund enthusiastically agreed so loud his voice could be heard through the speakers as he called for Luca.
"You will leave tomorrow morning, do you think it's too short notice for the pack?" He could not hold back his smile.
Edmund gave an animated no and wholeheartedly agreed that Diamond Ridge would be more than able to handle their arrival. Caspain laughed at his brother's reassurance. "All right, just do not cause any trouble the last thing I want to do is have to clean up your mess. Safe travels." Caspian told him before hanging up the phone.
"I'm still confused as to why you're wasting time sending them to Diamond Ridge? They're one of closest allies, almost as close as Silver?" Gabe questioned causing Alexia to cock her head to the side as she studied her mate.
"I want to give them a break before I send them to go see Alpha Dennis."
Realization dawned on the group and Alexia felt herself bristle at the sound of the alpha's name.
"Plus, the boys will handle all arrangements so you just need to send a message to the pack to make it official." Caspian had lightened Gabe's workload earning him a smile from his friend.
"You are getting soft."
"Careful or I will send them to Alpha Dennis tonight." He threatened.
Gabe held his hands up in defeat and went back to his work.
A formal reply was sent to the Eastern Kingdom so that preparations could be made for the impending royal visit.
As lunch approached, the beta and gamma left to attend to duties. Leaving the king and queen alone in the study.
Caspian promised to spend lunch with his mate after he finished the tasks at hand. They had barely had any quality time together of late and needed some time just the two of them.
Alexia thought of all she would need to do in preparation. Then she thought of Harley who would probably work herself to death. She frowned at the thought.
“What’s the frown for?” He looked up from his papers.
She sighed. “A little overwhelmed.” She admitted in a small voice.
