Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 140: A Beautiful Necklace
Alexia’s hair was brushed and curled as she sat stewing. Before long her hair was completely curled and pinned in rollers. She sat her phone down when they began to work on her face.
Harley seemed to sense the queen’s mood and chatted nervously and picked nonexistent lent off the queen's dress for the evening.
It took a recounting of the day in Harley’s rambling to help pull Alexia out of her mood.
“Harley, get me the seating chair please,” Alexia asked sitting up. After a few taps, Alexia was looking at a digitized version of the seating chart that Harley had uploaded to her tablet. Delilah was far away along with her father. It could cause some ruffled feathers but she was past caring.
Zooming in she looked at Enzo’s seat. Over the days she had always placed Cynthia near him to watch them. Now what would happen if they were separated? She felt that may tell them more. “We need to rearrange this. I want Cynthia and Ruhn on the other side of the table.”
“Of course, your majesty. Have they upset you?” Harley asked tentatively.
“On the contrary, I believe I have taken up too much of their attention.” She said handing the tablet back.
Caspian came in quickly, only giving her a peck on the cheek before going to ready himself.
When her team was finished, she looked absolutely glamorous with her red lips. She slipped on her dress behind the partition that had been set up. When she emerged, curlers were removed and heels were put on.
A knock sounded at the door as the team finished picking up their items. Harley escorted them to the door before she opened it revealing the guard from the morning carrying a case.
Ushering the beauty team out, she let him in and presented him to the queen. “Your majesty.” He bowed before opening the case.
Alexia took the earrings in her hands before placing them on her ears. As she reached for the necklace, Caspian voice tickled her neck “I’ll do that.” His strong hands placed the necklace around her neck as she moved her hair out of the way.
She adjusted her hair as he took the crown placing it on her head. “Thank you that will be all, he said dismissing their audience.”
His hands were on her shoulders as they looked at each other in the mirror. They looked unequivocally royal.
“Remember” Caspian began. “You are my mate. My queen. My heart. No one can even come close to you.”
She looked up at him and even though he did not say it, she could see in his eyes he hated putting her in this position with Delilah. She did not answer him but instead reached up and kissed his lips.
His tongue slipped into her mouth like a man who thirsted for water and she was a spring. The grand clock chimed and they had to separate. It was late. Red lipstick on Caspian was evidence of their encounter causing him to wash it off before they left for dinner.
The king and queen’s arrival was greeted with fanfare as the doors were opened. Alexia gently placed her hand on Caspian’s bicep as they entered.
A hushed murmur fell over the room as they came into view. Alexia was sparkling in her diamonds but the diamond on her neck received most of the attention.
With a soft smile, she looked magnanimous as she glided through the room. All eyes were on her both friendly and not.
“You majesties,” Princess Dristan said greeting them with a perfect bow. Taking the queen's hand he said “A beautiful necklace your grace. Oh, how the females must be jealous.” He smiled before kissing the back of her hand.
Caspian resisted the urge to growl but narrowed his eyes at the prince. When Alexia received her hand back she gently touched his chest and smiled. There was a small piece of her that enjoyed his jealousy.
“That’s very kind of you Prince Dristan.” She smiled feeling Caspian slip his arm around her waist.
The brave ones came up complimenting her as Caspian spoke with alphas never leaving her side. In amongst the praise she ordered a drink giving her a calm feeling throughout her body.
The Queen mother sauntered over to the couple, wine glass in hand. “Someone has been in the vault I see.” Stopping before them she bowed effortlessly.
“I thought it was time I did,” Alexia said gently touching the diamond with her hand.
“It was and you have good taste, you picked out one of the most valuable pieces,” Judy said before taking a sip of wine.
“They called to me, do you know the story behind them?” Alexia said as smiled and straightened her shoulders.
“The earrings were worn by Caspian’s great-grandmother Agatha. The crown was a piece I had commissioned but never wore so I’m happy it’s getting some use. Now the necklace, that has been in the vault for a long long time.”Judy said ignoring the guests as she spoke with the couple.
“How long?” Confused, she did not think any piece was as old as the earrings were. It perplexed her to think one could be older.
She took a long sip of wine. “From the time of the white wolves.”
Before she could fixate on what she had been told, her mother and sister appeared. “Darling you look Devine” her mother praised. They both bowed to her, an action she would never get used to.
“I’ll catch up with you later,” Judy said leaving the group in search of an unsuspecting victim. The alpha and Luna held their breath when she walked their way.
“Way to make an entrance.” Morgan approved in her emerald dress.
“I hope you are not causing any trouble.” Always the big sister Alexia gave her a knowing look.
“None that I was caught.” She smiled triumphantly.
“What have you been up to?” A very concerned Shelia interjected.
“We will talk later, I have gossip to listen to,” Morgan said with a little bow before leaving.
“I need to speak to you father, love you dear,” Shelia said avoiding giving her a parting kiss on the cheek since they were at a state dinner.
Dinner was announced before Alexia could have any substantial conversations. Seated she enjoyed her dinner and the guests that surrounded her.
Dristan was seated near them as the guest of honor. Alexia’s eyes kept looking a few seats down at Enzo. He could hardly take a bite without looking down at the table. His dinner companions tried to converse with him but all seemed to fail.
Gabe seemed at ease with his mate talking to those around him. His ability to gain intel without looking like it was an art form. However, he had been strategically placed near Alpha Dennis, just close enough where he could hear his conversations.
The tart that was served for dessert was delectable but not as good as the glares that came Alexia’s way from the end of the table. Delilah’s face was so red with envy that steam threatened to come out of her head.
When all were done, the king and queen rose for the after-dinner activities. “Ladies, shall we?” the queen asked causing the females to follow her to the parlor.
