Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 112: Classic
With the conclusion of breakfast, the males made their way to Caspian’s study for a more private conversation.
Coffee was passed around the room as the night had been long for them all. They each held a cup in their hand as they began their discussion.
Placing themselves around the room, they listened as Luca and Edmund began to brief them on their time in Alpha Dennis’s pack. They each took turns asking questions about the information and mulled it over from their perspective. All except Enzo.
His ears heard their words but not his mind. His mind was filled with images of her. All night he tossed in bed unable to get her face from his thoughts.
The lack of sleep had been evident when he had finally raised the white flag and surrendered to his fate of a sleepless night. Eyes red and bloodshot with dark bags forming under them he looked haggard but it was nothing to the turmoil that consumed him within.
At breakfast he had hoped he would see her, he needed some relief from the thought of her haunting him.
It was a disappointment when he arrived to learn the Eastern Kingdom would not be joining them. He almost cursed Gabe for overdoing it with the Prince.
What would he even do if he saw her? Would he speak to her? Ignore her? Claim her? Mark her? His confusion furthered his frustration. He had bent his fork at breakfast unaware of his grip till it was too late. Discreetly, he tried to straighten it out. Most of the table was focused on listening to the tales from the night before which mostly came from the Queen’s younger sister. Enzo was thankful for the lively young female who seemed to distract everyone from his angst.
He wasn’t even listening when Caspian spoke to him but thankfully the king did not question him as he was not ready to speak on the matter.
The words that were said around them did not faze him as he stared at the floor. Anything important Gabe would tell him later and there was no insight he could provide that the very capable males in the room could not think of themselves. So he drifted off. Off into his thoughts.
Why can’t she speak to him? She scurried away from him and had she chosen not to come to breakfast? Could she speak to him? What if she was not safe?
Enzo’s blood pressure began to rise as he worked himself up. He tried to cover it with a drink of his coffee trying to be nonchalant had anyone in the room paid attention to him they would not have been fooled but they were too engrossed listening to Luca and Edmund tell the king what would happen at their time in Alpha Dennis’s pack.
Gabe let out a sigh and Jacob let out a sound of disdain that had Enzo worried he had missed something important. Carefully he listened in alarm trying to piece it together.
“I can’t believe that,” Jacob said annoyed and angry.
Gabe snorted. “I can. Classic.”
“I would have thought it would have more likely happened to me.” Edmund echoed the sentiment.
Mocking the prince Gabe said, “If you want females to throw themselves at you, I’m sure we can find some.”
Edmund groaned “I’m fine but thank you for your consideration.”
Jacob passed judgment on the situation. “Dennis should be ashamed his daughter would even attempt something like that. And to a mated male! Outrageous.”
“Alpha Dennis probably told her to do it. Sneaking into Luca’s room naked. He would send her anywhere if he thought it could make him more powerful.” Gabe explained.
The pieces clicked into place for Enzo and he became focused knowing the queen would not be pleased and she was his main job.
They debated as to what could have possibly motivated such a blatant advancement towards a male that she did not even know.
Had Enzo not been consumed by his turmoil, he probably would have been outraged like the rest of them. Disgust was painted on Jacob's face, contempt on Gabe's, and Caspian stewed in a mixture of anger at the female as well as himself. The king blamed himself for allowing her to come into the palace which seemed to embolden her actions. However, unlike the others. Enzo felt numb to it all.
Asking the question that seemed to hang in the air, Enzo said “Who is going to tell the queen?” To him, it seemed like the logical thing to do next.
Four pairs of eyes stared at Enzo unblinking. The room felt heavy as no one spoke.
Mustering courage Edmund said “Dennis won’t keep this information to himself, he will try to use it to fluster her. Which is probably why she went to Luca’s room and not mine.”
Gabe concurred. “Sooner rather than later.” No one wanted to see the fallout if Alpha Dennis beat them to tell the Queen.
It seemed as if the group was about to draw straws for the job when Enzo cut in “I’ll do it.”
They stared at him in confusion. Caspian spoke “I can do it, it should be my responsibility.”
“There are several matters that require your attention. I will need to check in with her soon anyway.” Enzo shrugged as if it were no big deal but the truth was he needed a distraction. If he could focus on the Queen then perhaps he would not think of her.
He could not bring himself to think her name as he feared it may break him and with everything going on it was the last thing he needed.
Caspian agreed “Very well then, I’ll leave you to it.
Gabe briefed the group on the intel he had gathered, switching the conversation to the palace guests.
As they finished their coffees, the conversation seemed to come to a natural conclusion. The males would rejoin later that day on the golf course with the visiting males of the palace.
They joked amongst themselves as to who was the better golfer. Each declaring themselves to have the best swing. Gabe and Edmund ended up squabbling with each other as they always seemed to. The others rolled their eyes and excused themselves, leaving the king to deal with his brother and beta.
Enzo left the room in search of the Queen. Security had informed him of her whereabouts but she had been moving so he would need to catch up.
Taking a turn he arrived into a hall that was filled with priceless pieces of art that were displayed by the light that came through the floor-to-ceiling windows. But it wasn’t the art that had him stopping in his tracks.
There she was staring at a painting of a royal who had long been dead for centuries but as his scent reached her nose she turned and looked at him with wide eyes. Her mouth opened slightly as they stared at each other.
He could hear her heart beat erratically causing him to take a step closer to her which seemed to startle her as she said “I should go.” Turning in the opposite direction she went to make her escape.
“Wait! No!” Panicked Enzo began to chase after her. She was slipping through his fingers again and he could not let her go. He did not know what he was going to do but he had to do something. So he went after her.
As she went around the corner he heard her speak “Your Majesty! My apologies as I was not looking where I was going.”
Enzo came behind to see Cythina bowing to Alexia as she seemed to have run into the Queen in her hurry. The little sister, whose name always seemed to slip his mind looked on with delighted interest.
“It is alright, no harm was done,” Alexia said in a soothing voice not wanting the female to be worried seeing her flustered state. Enzo was thankful that the Queen was kind as another would not have been so understanding.
“Then I shall take my leave and disturb you no longer.” She looked at the Queen and her sister.
Seeing how uncomfortable she was, Alexia allowed her to leave “Very well, I hope we will see you at tea then.”
“Of course, Your Majesty.” Cynthia curtsied quickly before scurrying off and Enzo could only just watch her go.
