The White Wolf Chapter 37: Nice to Meet You

"Delilah Darling, there you are.” The shrew said to his daughter with a smile that revealed repulsing teeth. Alexia gulped down the bile that was threatening to come up her throat at the sight. 

“Your majesty” Delilah said, bowing, smiling as she looked at Caspian and completely ignoring Alexia. 

“We we’re so pleased to receive your invitation, Delilah here could not wait to come back to the palace.” Denise happily told the king. 

“It is true, I could not wait to come. I bought this dress just for the occasion.” Delilah said, gesturing to her gown that reeked of tackiness. 

Ignoring the pair and gesturing to his mate without sparing Delilah a glance, Caspian said. “I do not believe you have been formally introduced to the Queen.”

Begrudgingly, Delilah tore her eyes from Caspian to look at Alexia. “Your highness.”She said with a fake smile that was full of distaste. 

Alexia only gave her a curt nod of acknowledgment. Turning to the gamma she said “Enzo, will you please see to it that the guests who over indulge in drink are taken care of properly? I would hate for anything to happen to them on this happy occasion.” 

“Of course, your highness.” Enzo said with a bow. 

“I cannot seem to find the patté that everyone has been raving about. Someone must have missed calculated.” Delilah said, making a thinly veiled barb at Alexia’s planning skills. Before she could defend herself Gabriel stepped in. 

“Why don’t you lie on the floor and let them peck at your liver if you’re so worried about the patté?” Gabe said. 

“I am in a wonderful mood beta, you cannot upset me” Delilah said in a matter of fact voice. 

“The night is still young.” Gabe responded blankly. 

“ Caspian I need your help, may we please go somewhere and talk?” Delilah said in a sickening sweet voice that made Alexia’s blood boil. Before Alexia could say anything Caspian responded. 

“If you need my help I am happy to give it. However, as I have many duties Beta Gabriel will be assisting you.” Caspian said in a very diplomatic voice. 

Surprise and then a wicked grin stretched across Gabriel’s face.  

“Cassie I’m begging you, it will only take a couple minutes! You don’t have to like me, just help me!” Delilah begged Caspian 

“There’s a speech she knows by heart” Gave cut in causing Enzo to let out a snort. 

“Caspian-“ Delilah began before being cut off. 

“Enough.” Caspian said in a stern and calm voice that caused all standing nearby to stand straight. 

“I-I” she stammered. “I believe I need to powder my nose, please excuse me.” She said, giving a bow before retreating from the royal couple. 

Embarrassed, her father followed suit. Bowing to the couple before backing away to follow his daughter. 

Caspian looked at Alexia about to speak. 

*I don’t want to talk about it right now* she linked him. 

He nodded not wanting to worsen her mood that her interaction with Delilah had caused. 

She placed a fake smile upon her face and began greeting guests once again. 

Her mind was beginning to go numb due to the dull conversation when Luca cut in. 

“Might I interest you in a dance, your highness.” Luca said, extending his hand to his sister. 

The people Alexia had been talking to bowed and excused themselves. 

“Thank you” she said in relief while taking Luca’s hand. 

“It’s been a minute since we talked, how have you been?” Luca whispered as they made their way to the dance floor where others had continued to dance. 

“Just annoyed by a pest that I plan to get rid of soon.” Alexia stated in a flat voice. 

“Well, I know you are quite capable but if you need help crushing a bug let me know.” He told her with a wink. 

She gave him a small smile before they stepped in a waltz, spinning around the room. 

After their dance their father came to greet them. 

“I see you are in capable hands so I will take my leave to find my mate.” Luca said, kissing her cheek before weaving through the crowd. 

“You did a wonderful job darling” Her father said to her as he leaned in to give her a kiss on the other cheek. 

“Thank you” she said sheepishly. 

“I mean it, everyone I’ve talked to tonight has just gone on and on about how wonderful everything is.” He told her. 

“Where is mom?” Alexia asked not having spoken to Shelia yet. 

“Playing the game.” He said unworried by his wife’s diplomatic skills.

“And Morgan?” She asked, remembering her little sister and feeling bad for not seeing her yet. 

“Somewhere enjoying every minute of this. I believe she’s holding court.” He said with a laugh. 

“Holding court?” She questioned raising an eyebrow. 

“Oh yes” He exaggerated the O. “All the young girls have been following her around like a flock of birds. We may have created a tyrant. Yesterday she told one of her little minions that tights were not pants.” He said laughing. 

“Remind me to send her a jeweled headband so she can have her own tiara to wear to school.” Alexia told him laughing. 

“Oh, Goddess no. She does not need any help with her ego.” Her father grimaced. 

Taking a sip of his drink he looked around at the crowd. “I know your mother has drilled this into your head but let me say this for my own peace of mind.” He said, looking at her seriously. 

Looking at him she waited for him to continue. When he did he lowered his voice and leaned in before he said “Be careful. Be careful in what you do and who you trust.” 

She simply nodded. Her tiara shining in the light. 

Looking into the crowd she noticed pockets of groups that had formed. While all packs fell under the rule of the crown many had grievances against each other. 

Keeping packs from fighting amongst themselves was very hard to do. Some had territory disputes that dated back generations. 

“Dad?” She asked her father. 

“Yes, my wonderful daughter?” He raised an eyebrow. 

“What do you know about an Alpha Denise?”  She said, looking at him seriously.
