Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 48: Little Spy
Sleep had evaded Alexia. The constant worry of the unknown keeping her awake tossing and turning.
She felt bad as her restlessness woke her mate. Even though he was grumpy, he dressed himself and went about his tasks as the duties of the king were unending.
They worked out trying to exhaust themselves but to no avail. Eventually, Alexia decided to continue her research which was not being as fruitful as she had hoped it would be.
Morgan barged into Alexia’s room around midday as she was once again buried in books.
Looking up from her books, Alexia raised an eyebrow at her sister.
Morgan threw herself onto the bed. “Ugh, I am sick of talking to people.”
“I thought you enjoyed talking to people?” Alexia asked with a quirk of her eyebrow.
“I did, till all they want to do is talk about themselves like I care what their great grandfather said one day in the woods.” She huffed.
“And how did you get to talking about grandparents?”
“Well, I was doing my sleuthing, and I couldn’t very well come out and ask direct questions so I asked people about themselves. Now they seem to think I care.” She said staring up the ceiling.
Closing the book she had been reading and laying it aside, Alexia asked. “Did you find out anything useful?”
“Pertaining to you? No. Gossip yes.” She said with a wicked smile.
“Oh do tell.” Intrigue in the words.
“There’s the usually things.” She informed her older sister. “Mates were found, fights were had, and people embarrassed themselves this weekend. All things I enjoy.”
“Naturally.” Alexia urged her to continue.
“Do you remember the guy from River Run Moon?” Morgan turned resting on her elbow as she spoke.
“Prick?” Alexia asked knowing it sounded familiar but could not quite piece it together.
“Vick”
“Same thing.” Alexia said with a wave of her hand.
“He may or may not have gotten drunk and crashed his daddy’s brand new car. Into a the alpha Stephen’s car of Violet Moon.”
Eyebrows shooting up, the queen responded. “Oh, I bet that he was mad.”
“Yes, but that wasn’t even the biggest news of the night.”
Alexia waited for her to divulge further details.
“Someone caught two young lovers in the height of passion in the back woods.” Morgan said with a storybook like voice.
“So?” Alexia said flatly.
“So, her father told her to stay away from him as he is in a land dispute with his father. Word made it back to her father and I believe the words boarding school were used.” Morgan picked her nails as she spoke The action so catlike.
“That sucks.” The second hand embarrassment caused Alexia to let out a breath. Not only to get caught but for her father to find out.
“Yeah, though the question that was plaguing my mind is how did they get caught?”
“What do you mean?” Alexia said not following her sister’s train of thought.
“I mean, no one goes out there. It was the perfect spot to not get caught. The guards go out but would they rattle? The packs were so insignificant that why would they bother?”
Alexia did not wish to know how her little sister knew not to get caught. Instead she said. “Huh. I’ll have to ask Caspian about it. See what the protocols are.”
“People said that when they got caught their eyes were so round in surprise they looked like they had big eyes.
Alexia pursed her lips as she pondered.
It was something she would indeed ask her mate. If Morgan had a feeling about someone, most likely it could be trusted. Morgan was strong but not like Luca and Alexia. She trained but that was not the ability the goddess has blessed her with. The goddess did bless with the ability to know people. Making her a social butterfly that was always in the know.
“When does Luca return?” Morgan asked cutting into Alexia’s thoughts.
“I don’t know, he will make the rounds and send his reports. All I know is he made it there safely.”
“Well that’s good.”
“We should check in on Abigail?” Alexia suddenly remembering her brothers mate was by herself with her brother gone.
“Do we like her?” Morgan asked in solidarity. As her eyes narrowed.
With a laugh Alexia said. “Yes, she’s sweet and Luca’s smitten. That’s all that matters.”
“We should probably get to know her better. She is the future Luna of Silver Moon.”
“Good point. What should we do?”
Morgan got excited as she said. “Let’s start small, invite her to lunch and mom too! Make it a girls outing!”
“Great idea, let’s do it tomorrow. I’m sure she’s nervous without Luca.” Alexia said suddenly feeling like a terrible sister for not thinking of it sooner. Luca had always been there for her when she needed him and she really needed to take the time to get to know his mate better. Even with all her work she knew she needed to do a better job. She made a mental note to have Tabatha and Hazel check in.
Thinking of her friends she realized they would be leaving too. Alpha training was over do they no longer had business at the palace. The thought saddened her. Her family and friends would return home leaving her here. She shook of the feelings of self pity as she had Caspian. Her mate.
“Speaking of mom, have you seen her? I’ve been every where and I can’t find her.” Morgan cut in.
“Ugh that’s a good question. There’s no telling what she’s planning.”
Both girls grimaced at the thought knowing their mother was a force to be reckoned with.
Morgan divulged the scandalous things she heard to her sister as the day wore on.
They fell into an easy conversation. Their sisterly bond strong as ever.
After Morgan ate almost all of Alexia’s lunch, the queen ordered more so they could chat a while longer. Morgan would be going home in a few days and Alexia would miss her little sister. So she treasured these moments.
