The sound of Caspian’s howl could be heard in their chambers as Alexia sat on their bed. She hugged herself in response. He was gone.

With her mate gone, she felt alone. In the short time they had been together they had grown together. She was used to his presence being nearby.

She signed as she reaped herself from the swaths of blankets around her climbing out of the bed. Making her way to the bathroom she stepped under the water from the shower.

The amount of time spent there was unknown to her. She let herself be miserable and feel pity. The warm water relaxed her tense muscles.

Stepping out of the shower she quickly dried off and dressed for the day. With Caspian off hunting the alphas left for their packs in case of attacks. They did not delay long quickly leaving once they rose. However, alphas that were more hands-off in the protection of their packs stayed behind longer as not want to rush.

Alpha Tizen stayed behind longer to escort his mate to the hospital. They would leave straight from there to return to their pack.

Alexia took her breakfast in her study where the work had seemed to pile. She needed to keep herself busy. Harley carefully placed the tray of food next to the queen on her desk.

The papers were shuffled around to not get in the way. Alexia was barely reading the blood moon celebration plans before approving them. There was no time to go over every detail.

The coffee was a welcomed sight. The aroma offered her a bit of comfort as she held the warm cup in her hands. Her breakfast was barely touched as she flipped through reports.

Enzo came not too long after she had sat down at her desk. “Good morning Your Majesty.”

“Good morning Enzo.” She said without looking up. He had probably been up for as long as Caspian and had already many tasks.

“The eastern kingdom’s journey was reported to be uneventful.” Enzo began to inform the queen of what had been happening while she slept.

“That’s good. When the “ She looked up but the words died in her mouth as soon as she did. At the edge of the collar of his shirt was the edge of a fresh mark. “Enzo, is there something you want to tell me?”

He blushed. Alexia fought down a squeal in response. “I am mated.”

Alexia jumped up from behind her chair spilling her coffee in the process but she did not care. Running around to the front she hugged him “Congratulations! I’m so happy for you! You and Cynthia are a perfect match. It is Cynthia right?” She questions.

“Yes, it is.” He smiled as Alexia released him.

“Wonderful news. Did she return with Dristan?” Alexia asked worried.

“No, she stayed here.” He said proudly.

“If she needs anything you’ll tell me right?” Alexia asked happy to have a distraction from her loneliness.

“I’m hoping she will redecorate our chambers to make it more welcoming to her,” Enzo said with a twinkle in his eye. He was smitten. It was the most emotion Alexia had ever seen him display.

“Harley will send over the different designers that have been court-approved,” Alexia said sending Harley into motion.

“Do you think she will be able to help with the orphanage? I want her to have a place at court that she is comfortable with.” It was a request that made complete sense.

“That’s an excellent idea. Luna Amy is leaving after she visits the children and I have far too much work to give the proper attention needed. Will you ask her on my behalf?” Jumping at the chance to recruit more of the females at court, Alexia replied eagerly.

After Harley gathered the decorating information she moved on to gathering the plans and information of the orphanage for after Enzo asked Cynthia. Alexia liked the female and let out a sigh of relief that Enzo had mated someone so agreeable. It could always be worse.

As they discussed the reports and where Caspian was headed, Alexia did not pry further into Enzo’s relationship. He had opened up far more than ever before.

“Now only Edmund is left unmated,” Alexia said as Enzo turned to the door to leave.

“Goddess help us.” He said before leaving.

Before lunch, Alexia received an update from Luna Amy. The children were in good spirits and excited to live on palace grounds. After lunch, the bulk of the children would arrive.

At lunch, Edmund strolled in carefree. “Where have you been?” Alexia asked setting the papers she had been working on to the side.

“You have plenty of babysitters, I don’t need to watch you.” He brushed her off. “But since you miss me I’ll have lunch in here with you.”

“Thank you for your consideration, your highness. There is no need for a babysitter and I don’t know if you’re aware but a lot is going on here.” Alexia said as Harley left the room

“I know all the alphas are leaving.” He seemed gruffed about it.

“I thought that was good news?” Alexia asked.

“It was but it gives me less time to snoop.” He said sitting down in the chair across from the queen.

“You’re snooping?” She raised an eyebrow.

“It started as an errand for Mother but it’s getting interesting.” He gave a vague explanation.

“Anything you wish to share?” She was too tired to press for more. Out of what was going on it was not high on her priority.

“Not yet I want to confirm first.” He would not divulge any information till he was certain.

“Fair enough. Did you hear about Enzo?” She switched the subject.

“He did have a certain glow about him but I saw the mark and noticed a certain female did not leave,” Edmund confirmed that he knew and also that he did not care.

“You’re the only one not mated.” She stated the obvious.

“And?”

“There were several females at court recently.” She stated after having her home overrun with alpha and lunas.

“If there’s a point please make it.” He gave her a look.

“Did you feel any pull?” She said in bewilderment that he had not yet found his mate.

“What I feel is none of your business? Plus might I remind you my brother did not to fairly later than most till yours truly walked.” He said gesturing to her for emphasis.

“Not even from a gemstone?” She teased deflecting from talking about her relationship.

“I hate you.” An exasperated sigh escaped his lips.

“That would be funny.” She smiled.

“No, it would be a crime Against nature.” He argued.

“I’m pretty sure I saw some eyelashes batted your way.”

“You’re about to see a knife flying your way.” Picking up her letter opener he twirled it in his hand.

“I just don’t want you to be lonely.” She said more seriously but still lighthearted.

“As touching as your concern is, stay away from my mother. I don’t need more than one female trying to match me up.” He said pointing the letter opener at her.

Alexia let out a left and held up her hands in surrender promising to steer clear of the Queen mother.

A knock came at the door and their lunch entered shortly after.
