Picking up her phone Alexia knew the day had to almost be over. She was flabbergasted that it was barely approaching noon. The morning interviews had sucked the life out of her. She needed a break. She needed fresh air.

Looking at Charles she said, “Please see to it that Harley is notified and offered the position.” Another look at him before adding, “and let the others know that the position had been filled.”

“Right away.” Accompanied by some writing on a notepad. She would not need to worry about the matter anymore as it would certainly be taken care of by Charles. He was very good at his job.

Bidding Judy farewell, she quickly made her way back to her room and switched into workout gear. She still had not seen her mate and their quarters offered no sign of him. Knowing he was probably quite busy, she decided she would look for him later but first, she was in desperate need of training.

Almost sprinting down the halls, she went down and around the steps till she was stepping outside through the doors and into the fresh air. Thankfully, it seemed none of the servants were there or else she would have embarrassed herself with her desperation.

The wind breezed causing her to zip up her jacket. The warm weather could not come soon enough. The birds spoke to one another from the trees.

Making her way to the training area, she sensed she was being followed. Growing up, her father would have either himself or his warriors sneak up on the twins so that they were always on guard. Alert.

Her instincts kicked in. Her ears turned to every sound and her eyes scanned her surroundings. She did not see Enzo. He usually kept tabs on her. Looking carefully and wondering where her personal guard was, she listened for anything she might hear.

Looking around, she realized she did not see any guards at all.

The air was still. The birds quieted their chatter.

Her training had begun to slip in the days recently as her duties kept her inside.

She made a few turns, swerving between trees til she disappeared behind a garden shed. She leaned her back against its walls and waited. One. Two. Three. She stuck her arm straight out hoping to close line her stalker. She made contact with skin.

The sound of the wind being expelled from a body caused her to turn and find its owner.

Looking down she saw Edmund crouched over gasping for air, eyes wide. “Why.” An intake of breath “Did.” Another deep breath. “You.” his chest heaved against his rib cage. “Do that?” He finally managed to get out.

“Why were you following me?” Alexia crossed her arms and looked down at him as his breathing returned to normal.

In the distance, a chuckle could be heard. Alexia whirled to find Enzo across the way shaking his head as he laughed at the sight. Then she realized he had seen the whole thing and let it happen. With a final shake of his head and a smile on his lips, he walked away.

“I was leaving and saw you and thought I would say hello, apparently I was wrong.” he began to explain with exaggerated gesturing of his arms.

Bringing himself to his feet, he whipped the dirt and grass from his body. Another deep breath.

“Your mother is looking for you.” She told him with a knowing smirk.

“I know, that is why I was leaving. However, I saw you and thought I would pop over and say hello! But I guess you did not appreciate it.” Sarcasm dripped into his voice, though he did look over his shoulder and scanned the area around them.

Cocking her head to the side and asked “How long do you think you can hide from your mother?” Hiding from Judy was impossible and that was a known fact. If Judy was out hunting for her son, Alexia wanted no part in standing in over way. Edmund was on his own.

Pursing his lips he thought for a moment. “Hopefully, indefinitely. In Actuality,” a pause. “Probably a few hours. She needs a new hobby, she's getting too good at finding me.”

“Did you really need to get into it with that alpha?” Her voice was tired at the prospect of having to play politics.

“Probably not but I was tired and he would not shut up! I'm telling you he said the same ten times! I was like goddess!”

“What was he saying that was so bad?” A quirk of her eyebrow.

“He just went on and on about the rogue problem complaining to me. I am a prince you know? I might be the spare but I do have some value. So an insult to the monarchy is an insult to me and he did not seem to appreciate what I had to say about his pack.”

She grimaced and spoke slowly as if bracing for impact. “What did you say?” A question she was a little scared to ask.

“That his leadership is making his pack’s borders disappear like his hairline.” Nonchalant as always. “Then he decided to stomp around and make a lot of noise. I thought the old bastard was about to throw a hip out!”

It earned a snort and a smile from the queen. “Well, your mother is having lunch with his mate tomorrow.”

“A hag of an old woman.” He said it without any reservation as if it was a known fact. “I'm serious I half expected her to start trying to lure small children into her cottage in the woods.

“Please, and I am praying to the goddess on this, tell me you did not fill the need to tell her that.” Bracing herself for his answer.

“Of course not. I need to be able to tell them something else the next time I see them.”

Alexia’s eyes filled with alarm but eased as she saw Edmund fighting to keep a straight face till a laugh broke free from his lips and she found herself laughing with him. Before saying “I guess we're not pulling punches today, how about you put your money where your mouth is and meet me in the sparring ring.”

“Sure but stick near the trees, my mother has the eyes of a hawk and I would like to avoid her at the moment.” Another glance scanning their surroundings.

Alexia always enjoyed her conversations with Edmund. He never failed to make her laugh and put her at ease. Lately, though, he rotated between running from girls and running from his mother.
