Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 81: To The Fight
Giving his body a stretch Caspian stood up as he finished his work. Raising his arms above his head he groaned as he released the tension that had been building up. Coming up on his toes, he tried to regain circulation in his legs and feeling in his behind that had gone numb from sitting. Turning his head from side to side he cracked his knock causing the sound to echo in the quiet room. He had promised a run to Alexia and did not wish to keep her waiting.
A night run with his mate was the thought that got him through the tedious day. He was tired of answering questions and playing word games with the alphas. He thought of more pleasant scenarios. They would run in the cool breeze. Perhaps they would find a secluded place and he would push her back against a tree and take her there in the dark forest. His thoughts caused his pants to tighten in need.
He fiddled with the papers on his desk before he would leave the study for the day as he had been in the confines of its walls for far too long and he was in need of his mate. Making sure everything was in the correct place, he checked his work. The sound of the door being thrown open caused his eyes to shoot up in alarm.
Gabe walked in with a serious expression on his face. This was never good and caused a feeling of dread to take root in his stomach as he waited for the words to come out of his mouth.
"The borders have been breached by rogues. The patrol was able to push them back but more are coming."
Caspian's claws extended from his hands in anger. "Secure the palace and send reinforcements. No one is to leave. How bad is it?" He seethed in rage.
"We have lost some casualties but more warriors have been deployed to help," Gabe told him as the protocols in place were activated for sure occurrences.
The loss of any life upset him and on top of it, they had breached the borders. If the patrol had failed, more lives would have been lost.
"Get another platoon ready to leave." He said as he was coming around the desk and striding to the door.
"What are you going to do?" Gabe asked confused.
"Finish this." He growled not waiting for an answer.
As he threw open the doors to the outside, Caspian took off running launching himself into his wolf. Warriors fell into line after him as he raced to the border. His jet-black fur led the charge to the battlefield.
They ran through the forest as a fast fighting unit, each warrior falling into place. Caspian ran up a hill, as he reached the top he could see the battle taking place in the valley below. His wolves fought for their lives as they pushed back against the invading rogues.
Arriving at the border, his forces were evenly matched but if more rogues arrived they would have been overwhelmed. The royal warrior's morale lifted when Caspian reached them. They were covered and mud and blood, as they fought on top of the bodies of fallen wolves.
Leading the charge into the fight, Caspian snarled and snapped as he fought his way through the sea of wolves. He broke the neck of one rogue before turning to snap another. Leaving a trail of bodies in his way he fought his way to the front.
A large rogue that had taken out several of his warriors faced off with him on the front lines. The males' heckles rose as they growled at one another. Barring their teeth, saliva dripped mixed with the blood of their kills. The fighting around them stopped as the others became spectators.
The rogue was bold and made the first move, confident by its success in killing the royal warriors that lay on the ground. However, he had missed calculated. Caspian was not just a warrior, he was the king.
Charging at the king, the rogue tried to rip out his throat. Caspian easily sidestepped him, throwing him off of his balance. As the rogue tumbled, Caspian lunged and swiftly ripped its throat as the rest of its body fell to the ground. His fur was drenched in blood.
The fight was over almost as soon as it began the pent-up rage inside of Caspian escaped. He would kill every one of the rogues to keep his kingdom safe. He would kill anyone to keep his mate safe.
At Caspian's kill, the other rogues began to cower down with their leader dead. Laying down in submission, the king studied them before deciding what his next move would be. As only a handful of rogues remained alive, He ordered for them to be taken as prisoners. They would be interrogated by any means necessary.
After giving the order, Caspian himself immediately launched into securing the border and looking for any loose rogues.
The bodies of the fallen warriors were carefully transported back to the palace, where they would receive the proper burial rites and honors. The king would mourn them later but not yet as his job was not yet complete. He would not sleep till the borders were once again secure.
The warriors were tired from the battle but they pushed on into the night. They split into groups combing the area making sure they had eradicated all of the rogues.
Caspian had stopped to survey an area from the top of the hill which he had arrived at, that allowed him to look at the valley below where the battle had taken place. The ground had been painted red with blood from both sides.
Changing back into his human form, a warrior handed him a pair of shorts with his chest remaining bare in the cold night. The sun had long set and the moon was the only source of light. He crossed his arms and watched over the clean-up.
The reports he received from the scouts came back clear but he did not relax yet as he still awaited to hear from all of the scouts. The rogue attacks weighed on his mind and heart, eating at him from the inside.
Turning as he heard his beta's approach, Gabe ran to his perch at the top of the hill. The look on the beta's face told him the day was about to worse and he was in no mood to deal with more bad news. "What now?"
Gabe was almost frozen as if in fear.
"Out with it." The king spat.
His throat bobbed and his voice hitched. "The Queen is missing."
