The White Wolf Chapter 128: Goddess Damn it All

Leaving the females left Enzo torn. As much as he wanted to walk off a cliff if he had to listen to the gemstones another minute, he would Gladly endure it to be near her.

His heart beat faster every time she took a step near him. His mind was in shambles as he craved her but at the same time, he did not know her.

Their conversations were limited at best and nonexistent at worst. There had been no time to get to know one another and she was in an arranged mating to goddess know who.

Several times he caught her stealing glances, only because he was looking at himself.

Enzo needed to speak with Caspian, so he walked through the halls practically dragging his feet with every step he took away from her.

He came to the king's study where he knocked on his head wooden doors.

“Come in” he heard from inside. When he stepped inside Caspian did not spare him a glance as he continued writing.

Gabe was already there scrutinizing a stack of papers. They were the best of friends and had been since they were children. They had spent their whole lives preparing for their roles and forming that bond.

No matter what they always took care of one another but Enzo could not bring himself to tell them his news. As if he spoke the words aloud it would become real and he may lose the fantasy he had developed in his mind.

In his mind, they could be together without any political backlash. In his mind, they were madly in love. In his mind, they were one.

Enzo came in and took a seat waiting for them to finish. In the meantime, servants brought in refreshments and placed them on a table.

“Where is Alexia?” Were the first words out of Caspian’s mouth as he looked up.

“At tea with the females.”

“Anyone to be concerned about?” He asked as he pushed his papers to the side.

“I did not observe any troublesome behavior except for the gemstones of course,” Enzo reported to the group.

“That’s a given,” Gabe added. “Ask Edmund, I believe he had fond memories of his time in their pack.” Gabe set his papers aside to give them his undivided attention.

Caspian seemed unalarmed but also had guards stationed watching the queen. He knew there was not a female in the room that Alexia could not take with ease.

They dove into their briefing discussing all matters with the kingdom. Gabe had deployed spies to help infiltrate the networks of those who opposed the throne.

There was also a discussion that seemed more like gossip about the guests that were currently in the palace.

“An alarming discovery was that Alpha Dennis has been trying to contact the prince but he has been so consumed following the queen that they have not met in private.”

“That is both good news and bad news,” Enzo commented.

“Where is he now?”

“Who?” Gave asked not knowing which one he was referring to.

“Dristan.”

“Resting or hiding from the gemstones. Either way, he’s in his chambers.” The gemstones females were persistent with no shame and Caspian was fine with letting them terrorize the prince if it kept him away from his mate.

“How was the morning? Did he try to get close to her?” Caspian asked Enzo for his perspective of the morning.

“I can happily report he was bored out of his mind and Alpha Jacob kept him on a short leash.”

Caspian snorted thankful for his father-in-law. Having lost his own father he relied on Jacob immensely for his council even before Alexia and him were mated.

“That’s nothing we did not prepare for.” Caspian said.

“It gets worse,” Gabe spoke carefully.

“What.”

“Well, worse for you.” He elaborated.

“What is it?” Caspian’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Gabe.

“Alpha Dennis has sent for his daughter.”

"Goddess damn it all." Caspian gritted his teeth knowing who he referred to, the gift that kept on giving. He knew this would not make Alexia happy.

“When does her broomstick land?” Enzo asked for the king.

“Tomorrow.”

“And we can’t ban her?” Enzo asked looking at both of them as the only one who did not like the female more than him was the queen. They stood in solidarity on that matter.

The gemstones were child's play compared to her scheming and he knew she would try to antagonize the queen.

“Not without cause or else it could cause a riot. And hatred is not enough."

“I beg to differ,” Enzo answered as his distaste for the female ran deep. Delilah had always strutted around as if she were the queen and would order him to do things for her. Which of course he would not do. Caspian brushed off his objections as insignificant as she showed him a different face. By the time Caspian realized she was not who she portrayed, it was too late.

Silence came over the room as they sat there thinking about the day.

“So would you like to tell us about this morning?” Caspain asked Enzo breaking the quiet.

“I just got too into it, I won’t let it happen again.”

“Uh huh,” Caspian did not look impressed but dropped the matter. Enzo knew they did not believe him but they let it go.

Gabe brought out the seating chart for the night's dinner that Harley had delivered to them. They made some changes ensuring the prince was away from any member of the silver family as well as Alpha Dennis.

It became a game as they rearranged Alexia’s perfectly organized arrangement. They decided to place an Eastern Luna that had accompanied the prince next to the queen so it would not seem as though they were surrounding the queen with friends.

The task was tedious and they all hated it. Enzo developed a newfound respect for Harley and understood why she always looked stressed. He would pull his hair out if he had to do this every day.

"There is a rumor I wish to spread," Caspian said as he sat back in his chair and placed his hands together on his chest.

"Oh?" Gabe asked as it was his area of expertise.

"I want to spread the rumor that Alexia can't shift."

"Are you serious?" Gabe asked in disbelief

"Yes"

"So, you are going to use her as bait?" Enzo asked looking at the king as if he had lost his mind

"I want to know who is after her and this could be a way to draw them out." His eyes narrowed as he thought about it.

"If that is your wish," Gabe said with a sigh as his mind calculated how to complete the task. "I guess I better get going then."

"I take it, it goes without saying that I better be alert."

Caspian nodded with a serious look on his face as Enzo stood up to follow Gabe out the door.

“Oh and Enzo.” The gamma stopped walking to the door to turn back and look at the king. “When you want to discuss what really is going on let me know.” He nodded and walked out the door.
