Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 39: The Night Continues
As the night wore on, the tiara sitting upon Alexia’s head became heavy and the high heels that adorned her feet, began to ache. It made her long for the comfort of her bed away from the noise.
Leaving the grandeur of the ballroom she made her way to a nearby balcony for some fresh air and to get a break from the many guests that required her attention.
The balcony was tucked away, giving her some privacy amongst the crowd. It’s rounded glass doors that led to the outside were draped in garland that had been decorated with red roses that gently waved in the wind. Each bloom vibrant and beautiful.
The night air was crisp against her face as she passed through the doors outside. She took a deep breath, inhaling the air. The music from the ballroom was playing faintly in the background. She listened to the music as she looked out into the palace gardens.
The light from the palace made it hard to see the stars. A few bright lights emerged and peppered the unending blackness that was above her.
Over the years she had spent many nights camping outside in the wilderness. Laying on her back, she could look up and see thousands of twinkling lights. The sky were mixtures of blue, grey, and purple.
Luca and her would go out training with their father. It was important to him that they be able to take care of themselves anywhere.
The lessons her father had taught her will and already was serving her well. They would keep her safe during her reign.
From her spot, she could see where guests had made their way from the ball and ventured out into the beautifully decorated gardens.
The servants had lit the lamps lining the pathways, giving off faint glows of light.
Some of the guests wove through the hedges of the maze like landscaping, laughing as they then would become lost from their group. Their friends trying to navigate them back. Too drunk to help coherently.
They waved their wine glasses or whatever glass they had into the other in merry jubilee.
From her spot, she could see lovers sneaking away into the darkness, intertwining themselves behind a tree as they gave into their passion.
It made her long for her own mate. Her body hungry for his, needing to feel every inch of his skin. His warmth.
Wondering if it was too early for her to retire, she heard the bells chime signaling the midnight hour.
At the sound she began to gather herself to go back inside to the crowd of people. Her mother would warn her of the dangers of abandoning her guests for too long. So, she straightened herself and took one last breath of the air.
Then in the darkness she heard a voice that made her claws threaten to unsheathe themselves from under her skin.
“Isn’t it time for Cinderella to leave the ball? I’ll be careful to watch out for any falling pumpkins on your way out.” Delilah said her tongue dripping with hate as she stood between Alexia and the doorway.
Alexia held herself back as she turned to face the thorne in her side that was Delilah. She stood between the glass doors of the entrance to the balcony with the light at her back.
“Jealously does not suit you, but then again I don’t think anything really does suit you.” Alexia said with emphasis, as she turned around, crossed her arms and leaned against the railing.
Delilah scoffed at the comment but offered no retort as she shook her head as if she was trying shake Alexia away. She picked a rose off the garland hanging beside her head.
“No comeback?” Alexia mocked with a short laugh.
“Caspian will be board with you!” Delilah said angrily as if she was trying to will it into being.
“Like he did with you?” Alexia questioned like a cat playing with a mouse.
Continuing she said. “You know, there’s a tree out there working very hard to produce oxygen. With as much as you waste your breath sprouting idiotic nonsense, you should apologize to it.”
Anger flashed across Delilah’s face, contorting into disgust.
“I am an alphas daughter! And I will not be spoken to like this!” She raged.
“So am I.” Alexia replied with annoyance.
“You may think you’re untouchable now but just wait.” Delilah spat with a red face.
Alexia laughed at the absurdity of her comment, angering Delilah more.
“Wait? Wait for what? Look at this tiara on my head, you lost.” Alexia said, turning so the light hit the tiara, causing the diamonds to glimmer.
Delilah’s mouth opened and closed like a fish trying to find something to retort. Sounds came out of her mouth but no coherent words were uttered.
No longer amused, Alexia stepped toward her barely restraining herself. I’m voice that was the whisper of death, she said low and slow. “You forget who you are speaking to. I may be the queen but I am also Alexia Silver.”
Delilah squeezed her fists causing the rose that was in her head to cut her hand with its thorns. It caused her to jump and shriek at the pain, dropping the rose onto the ground. A trail of blood ran down her arm as she clutched it to her chest.
As the blood stopped, Alexia stepped forward. “Consider that the first drop of blood spilled.” She said to her in low calm voice.
Sensing her defeat, Delilah began to scurry away but not before Alexia stopped her.
“Not so fast, I believe it is proper etiquette to bow to the queen before leaving her presence?” Alexia questioned her enemy.
Begrudgingly, Delilah lowered her head and seemed to almost visibly shake with anger at the action.
Alexia was over dealing with Delilah, she needed a drink. Even though she had won battle, she sensed the war was not over.
