The clock chime echoed throughout the room. “I guess it is time for luncheon,” Alexia said rising from her seat thankful the hour was upon them.

“Perfect, I am famished.” Prince Dristan announced as they made their way to the door.

The group was visibly relieved to no longer be enthralled by talks of architecture and paintings. None of the males seemed interested as their conversation would drift to other matters. Mostly Alpha Jacob monopolized the prince as both gammas seemed set on being stoics.

With Cynthia right next to the queen, Enzo could watch her till his heart was content. An opportunity he took.

They exited the gallery through the way they entered. Once they had cleared the room, the servants shut the windows and closed the room. As the pieces were priceless and so many guests in the palace it was not feasible to allow them to enter as they pleased.

Already carpets had been stained and glasses shattered for late-night escapades. In preparation, the queen mother told Alexia stories of things being damaged while their guests were in the palace or worse stolen.

The day the guests returned home could not come soon enough as Alexia was ready for her home to return back to its normal state.

Her cheeks hurt from all the smiling she was doing and polite chatter. She felt so fake. The image of the Queen was something to be maintained and hard work at that.

Smiling to those that annoyed her, and having dinner with those she wished to banish from the palace. The morning allowed her to practice under the watchful gaze of her father who would help her if she made a mistake.

growing up her parents did their best to guide and prepare her for life even though none of them could have imagined she would end up on the throne as queen. Mate to the king. Even with all they did, it was up to her at the end of the day to either sink or swim.

Too many of those in attendance wanted to see her fail. She missed her simple life of being carefree and spending time with her friends. One look at her mate though and she knew there was nothing she would trade this life for.

In no time they arrived at the dining hall where tables were draped with crisp linen tablecloths and flatware placed on top perfectly. The guests in the palace had mostly arrived and were waiting.

Coming down one hallway, the group made their way to the opened doors. They were met by the king coming from another direction. his figure never failed to leave her looking in awe. His strong walk had her weak in the knees as she came towards her.

Gabe was following behind with papers and cellphones engrossed in the two barely sparing the queen a glance but it didn’t matter. All that mattered was him. Her mate.

“I trust you had a good morning.” He said ignoring everyone else by placing a kiss on the queen’s cheek as a sign of affection.

She smiled and the others excused themselves to enter the dining area and give the royal couple some privacy.

Letting out a breath, Alexia was finally able to relax a little. At least for a minute while she and Caspian stood alone in the hall.

“Did he give you any trouble?” His voice turned serious as he looked at her earnestly.

“Not really, but if I have to talk about art or architecture any time soon I may suffer an aneurysm.”

He laughed as the tension in his body eased a millisecond. “I don’t like him here but I like being able to watch him.”

“I for one will happily pack their bags if it means we get the palace back to ourselves,” Alexia said as she slid her hand up and down Caspian’s bicep.

Since breakfast Caspian had rolled the sleeves to his button-down shirt, allowing his forearms to be on display.

“You tempt me, mate,” Caspian said as he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her into him. “What shall I do with you?”

“There’s people watching.” She blushed as she tried to push him away but he held firm.

He leaned into whispered in her ear “The only reason I’m not stripping you bare and taking you here and now is that I don’t want others to see what is mine.”

Her body shuttered of its own accord as chills ran through her. She wanted him. Needed him.

He placed a kiss under her earlobe that had her eyes rolling back as he gently sucked on the sensitive skin.

“There in case anyone forgot who you belong to.” He said proudly as he pulled back.

Her toes were threatening to curl of their own accord. As she came to her she glared at him as now they had to have luncheon with the smell of arousal lingering around them.

Finally, he gave in to her pushing him away as he stepped back and laughed at her annoyed look. His laughter caused her to glare even harder and him laugh harder.

“You’re too cute when you do that.” He pinched her cheeks in amusement as she scowled.

Remembering the information she learned that morning “Did you know it was Ruhn that sparred with Enzo this morning?”

“Gabe did have a report on the matter.”

“Will the Eastern Kingdom be upset?”

“I don’t believe so, why will probably try to sweep the matter under the rug since it was a gamma beating a beta? It will be best to save face.” He explained to her.

“I wonder why it was so intense. Enzo doesn’t seem like he loses control.”

“He doesn’t but I will have to ask him that later for now I just want to focus on you.” He said as gently placed a piece of hair behind her ear. Caspian knew there was something amiss with Enzo but after his conversation with the prince speaking with him and been a low priority. Fighting with Ruhn brought the matter to his attention and showed he was a ticking bomb.

“I just don’t want diplomatic relations to be more complicated. I already had my father dancing on that cliff this morning.”

“Your father? What happened?” He quirked an eyebrow not expecting the revelation.

She waved her hand as if she could dispel the memory. “He called the prince a dull boy and he could have overheard.”

Caspian snorted. “I’d love to see him try to challenge your father.”

“Dad seems to have the same sentiment.” She grumbled as Caspian smiled with amusement.

“Silvers are known to be feisty.” He said before poking her nose causing it to scrunch.

The urge to wrap into one another was overwhelming. Alexia wanted to look themselves away in the chambers for days, no, weeks on end.

She took deep breaths trying to calm her erratic heart. They spent a few minutes just enjoying one another looking into each other's eyes and saying nothing in particular.

Their tranquility came to an end as Harley came to stand at the doors to the dining hall. A signal that it was time.

Making their way to the dining hall, their entrance was announced causing conversation to cease. All of the guests in the palace were in attendance keeping their eyes on the royal couple made their way to the head table.

At the head table sat the members of the royal family and the prince. luncheon was a less formal affair leading to fewer bells and whistles. It consisted of a few courses and idle chatter before the day resumed.

Luca and the rest of the queen’s family sat as far away from the prince as Judy, Edmund, and everyone else in their inner circle acting as a shield between the two. By the way, Luca seemed extra protective of his mate, she was sure he was on edge with what the prince had said to Caspian. The only one who seemed at ease was Morgan who happily chatted along to the conversation. Since her little sister was not a white wolf, she did not have as rigorous training as the twins and did not need to keep her shifting in secret.

Ruhn caught her eye as his fast healing seemed to have had him make a full recovery with no signs of the earlier sparring match. She wondered if he held a grudge and would seek revenge. He seemed carefree but she knew better than to trust appearances. Seated next to him as always was his sister who spoke with members of their court.

Throughout the meal, Caspian held Alexia’s hand and kissed the top of it. He held onto her as if he were tethering her to him and without it, she would drift away. The weight of the world seemed to be pressing down on him as he tried to conquer it all.

Enzo kept looking at Cynthia catching the queen's attention. Thanks to Morgan she had become more in tune with the action and noticed how frequently occurred, thus she hatched a plan.
