Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 155: Limb from Limb
Gabe looked visibly surprised but quickly regained his composure gathering his things and following Alexia out the door.
Harley had still not returned from the latest errand she had been sent on.
Alexia wanted to be noisy but decided to keep walking. The attention was unwanted by Enzo and the more eyes and ears on him would make him feel cornered.
The pair walked down the halls. They had never spent much time alone together, and the awkwardness was growing. Alexia needed to break it. “So, how were the dungeons?”
Gabe snorted. “absolutely thrilling. I do love the smell of mildew in the morning.”
“I see your point.”
“But it was productive. The king was able to work out some frustration.” Gabe conceded.
They made small talk as they walked, neither bringing up the unspoken topic. Alexia asked about Marissa, and Gabe assured her that his mate had recovered well from the disaster they had found themselves in.
They inspected the hunting cottage which mostly consisted of Alexia looking it over while Gabe made calls keeping the queen in his sight. There were guards near them but Caspian trusted very few with his mate. He still would not hesitate to tear his beta limb from limb if he so much looked at the queen wrong.
The head of housekeeping jumped at the chance to personally show the queen the improvements. She even showed the ideal location of a nurse's station in case the children were injured. Alexia could have kicked herself for having thought of it herself.
While Alexia was sending Harley out to procure the supplies for the nurse's station, the kitchen staff arrived. Crates and crates of fresh produce and groceries were carried in by servants in a row.
Alexia was introduced to a young chef who had shown promise in the kitchens and would be in charge of the children’s meals.
“Your majesty, it is in honor.” She bowed deeply.
“Thank you for taking the assignment, what is your name?” She asked.
“I’m Natalie, your grace.” She smiled.
“It is nice to meet you. Please do not hesitate to ask for anything you need.” Alexia directed her.
Natalie presented the queen with the menu she had compiled. She also gave her a list of snacks she would start preparing immediately.
Alexia sent for Harley to bring a list of all dietary requirements for the children. The assistant appeared after having laminated the list. One of the kitchen servants found a place to hang it so everyone would be able to access it.
The fence had almost been completed and would be by the end of the day. The grounds were carefully manicured. Any rocks removed and holes filled in to prevent the children from getting hurt while playing.
Playground equipment would come but they did not have the time to wait for its arrival. A sacrifice she was willing to make.
Gabe updated her all the children were stable. At least the ones they had been able to save. A memorial would need to be planned.
After Alexia had walked around the building twice, she wanted to return to the study. “Do you think it’s safe to go back?”
“It was probably ok to go back before we finished walking here,” Gabe replied not looking up from his phone.
The barrage of inquiries from the alphas did not seem to cease as they had no problem with bombarding the beta. His hands moved quickly as he responded to them.
The sun was beginning to set and dinner would be soon. They turned back to the castle walking along the path. As they approached the doors they were opened.
Alexia almost faltered in her walk as someone else was coming out of the door. It was Delilah.
Thankfully a guard intercepted her moving her to the side as a barrage of protests was heard. “Get your hands off of me! Do you know who I am?”
Alexia did not spare her a glance as she walked past. As if she were beneath her.
Gabe escorted the queen back to her chambers where he then left to ready himself and meet his fate of dealing with the alphas at cocktail hour.
The dinner would be normal trying to keep the court members calm. Alexia had been so distracted that she had forgotten she wished to speak with Caspian about what Dristan had said to her.
Harley had laid out several gowns for the Queen to wear. Alexia grabbed one and set it aside without really looking at it. It would do.
Mechanically she showered and dressed herself in a robe before sitting in a chair awaiting her beauty team to do their work.
She had no opinion on the style of her hair or makeup. Mercifully, the team went for an elegant classic look.
After they left she finally looked at herself. Light makeup highlighted her features and long curls that had been partly pined up. She held up the dress she had selected. An emerald satin dress that draped her body perfectly. She paired it with heels and the crown Caspian had gifted her. Small diamonds adorned her ears.
Compared to the blood diamond she is positively humble. It was almost time to leave when Caspian rushed into their chambers.
He barely stepped in the shower before he stepped back out. He threw on his attire before he whisked Alexia out the door.
“Let’s get this over with.” He complained to her.
She offered no words of comfort but leaned into his side as they had a few moments alone in their walk. As they neared the dinner she straightened, preparing herself for battle.
Caspian squeezed her hand before she wrapped her arm through his. She was still annoyed Delilah was in her home. Annoyed that Caspian did not tell her about Dristan. Annoyed they were being attacked. Annoyed she had not produced an heir. Annoyed at everything.
Her eyes reflected it as they approached and the doors were opened announcing their arrival. The group was bigger than lunch as children and entourages were in attendance.
Caspian could feel the annoyance and agitation radiating off his mate. He looked at her curiously but she did not meet his gaze. He turned back giving the room a look that sent fear though their bones.
