Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 164: Leaving to Hunt
Caspian started to walk back towards the palace. “How soon can we leave?” He would leave at that instant if he could but that would not be the wise move. Plus he would need to spend time with his mate and give her an update on what had happened.
The wolf in him was clawing to come out and fight. It had been too long since his paws had felt the ground beneath him. He needed to run. To hunt.
“In a few hours,” Enzo said.
“Someone wake my brother and make him aware of the situation.” With no children, Edmund was the heir. If Caspian left the palace he would need to stay behind in case anything happened.
“I’ll get the warriors ready,” Enzo said before turning to walk away toward the barracks. He would wake the warriors and get them moving. They trained for this now it was time to put their training into action.
“You’re staying here,” Caspian said stopping Enzo in his tracks.
“Your majesty why?” Enzo asked confused. He had already generously paid for Cynthia’s dowry did he want him to spend time with his mate?
“To protect the queen,” Caspian said causing Enzo to close his mouth. That made sense.
“I’ll send the scouts out to get ahead start,” Gabe said. They would need to get an idea of the terrain so they could take the best route and avoid detection.
“Good. I want everybody we can spare. I don’t know how big their numbers are.” Caspian thought aloud. The attacks showed Draxton had resources. It was plausible he would have a large army.
Just as they entered the palace they passed the main foyer. Dristan’s entourage had gathered. Their bags were being loaded into vehicles as they milled about.
Prince Dristan stepped forth “Thank you for the hospitality, your grace. We should leave within the hour.” He said with a bow.
Caspian did not break stride as they walked past the Prince “Drive safe Dristan” was all he said without stopping.
As they walked by, Caspian did not see Cynthia. Either she was still sleeping or chose not to see her people off. Enzo did not look concerned but then again he never did. If there was an issue it would be up to Enzo to sort it out. He was fine playing Cupid.
“Wake alpha Jacob and give him the update. Then get the warriors ready to leave.” Caspian said dismissing his beta and gamma.
They broke off to complete their tasks. It would be several hours before they were ready to go so Caspian returned to his chambers.
Alexia was still sleeping in the bed. The lack of sleep had caught up to her leaving her exhausted. Not bothering to remove his clothes he climbed into the bed next to her pulling her close.
He breathed in her scent. He knew he would be gone for at least several days and this is what he would miss most. The warmth of her body Against his as he stroked her hair lovingly.
The sun was rising. He would need to be gone soon. Dristan had already left with an escort. The supplies had almost been gathered.
Nuzzling his nose into her hair he inhaled her scent closing his eyes.
“Alexia.” He whispered her name she stirred but did not wake. “Alexia.” He repeated louder.
She groaned as she opened her eyes. “Is it morning?” The sleep was heavy in her eyes making her struggle to open them.
“Morning has just begun. I need to tell you something.” He said hoping her dazed state could comprehend what he was about to tell her.
She sat up with blankets wrapped around her body. “What is it? Why are you dressed?”
“The rogue woke up. He gave the last known location of their base.” He waited for her to figure out what he was saying.
“Have you sent warriors out?” She asked trying to figure out the logical action.
“I’ve sent scouts. I’m going to lead the warriors after them and hopefully end this once and for all.” He tried to give her what she needed to know without giving unnecessary details.
“That’s great news. I’ll have the chef prepare an extra special dinner.” She seemed to perk up at his confidence.
He shook his head “My love I won’t be home for dinner. I’ll be gone for at least a few days more likely it will be longer.”
“How long?” She sounded like a sad child not wanting to be away from him.
“I don’t know.” He answered truthfully. He would hunt for as long as it took.
“what will I do without you?” She cried in distress at the unknown of how long they would be apart.
“Edmund and Enzo will be here to help and protect you.” He tried to reassure her but they were not replacements for him.
“When do you leave?” She began to worry about the amount of time they had left.
“Soon. I’ll leave from here and set out.”
“Is your bag packed?” She was worried he would not have all that he needed to be out in the wild.
“No bags. We will go in wolf form. The omegas will follow with supplies. It will be quicker that way.”
“What if you get cold?” Only she would worry about one of if not the strongest wolves in the kingdom getting cold.
He smiled “Darling do not worry about me. Just worry about keeping yourself safe.”
“What about Prince Dristan?” She remembered him. With Caspian gone, she would be in charge of tending to the entourage.
“he left this morning.” Caspian was pleased with that detail.
“Oh.” Right now she could not care about the reasons for the prince leaving. All that she cared about was her mate's departure.
“The alphas will depart too now that he is gone.” He added making sure she knew the palace would empty in his absence.
She nodded trying to take in all the information he was giving her.
“My dear I’ve really got to go.” He said causing Alexia to throw herself into his arms. He held her tight before pulling back to kiss her lips. A slow, tender kiss. A kiss goodbye.
He pulled away and walked out the door without looking back.
On his walk to the door, he stopped in his tracks.
Before him stood Luca. “I’m going with you.” He said.
Caspian studied him for a second before agreeing. “Alright.”
Luca followed behind as they headed to the doors that were thrown open for the king. They went to the training grounds where the warriors were lined up in their ranks standing at attention.
Standing in front of the warriors, Caspian looked them over before speaking “I do not have a speech to give you but this to say. Let’s go get the bastards.”
Yells and cheers erupted. Caspian took off in a jog to the woods where he shifted. Everyone followed behind him shifting as well.
Shaking his fur he took off in a run letting a howl. The kings howl. A terrifying sound that struck into the soul of those for miles around. The king was hunting.
