Throwing herself into the library, Alexia began her search.

Scanning the the tall shelves, she weaved in and out of rows. Her eyes strained from the lack of sleep and low light.

Pursing her lips she read the titles, her finger tips grazing the binding as she went. She did not have much time but her endless questions were eating away at her.

Tucking the books she felt were promising under arm, she continued her search.

Her search was proving to be harder than she predicted. She now understood how Caspian had been unsuccessful.

As the sun was rising even higher she knew her time was limited. Gathering up a few books that had peaked her interest, she took them back to her quarters.

They smelt of dust and looked as if they may fall apart at her very touch. She carefully placed them on a table before scurrying out the room.

The palace was starting to become more lively as people were waking from their slumber. By the end of the day most would return home to there home packs, allowing the palace to return to its normal routine.

The servants she passed, bowed. They were busy collecting discarded glasses and various items they found. Alexia made a mental note to ensure every servant was rewarded for their hard work. The hall had been a smashing success. The headlines of the papers sung its praises. The world now new she was the queen and there was no going back.

Walking through the hallways, she could hear low murmurs coming through the doors of the meeting room as she approached.

The guards seeing her stood at attention giving her a slight bow.

She was greeted by blood shot eyes and half hearted bows. With a gracious smile, she accepted the gesture. Her body feeling heavy from her own lack of sleep.

The guests milled about the room. The servants had laid out a spread on one side the room. Many alphas were munching away on the food and drinking the coffee as if it was the only thing keeping them alive. Light conversation in low voices was made amongst them.

Caspian was already at the front of the room conversing. She admired him. Watching him, he seemed alert and showed no signs of fatigue. His body radiated strengthen.

Gabe moved about the room swiftly as he directed servants to various tasks.

Stationed near the back, Enzo watched. His tired eyes alert.

The grand clock rang, chiming the hour at which they had agreed to meet. Signaling for the room to become still.

The alphas directed their attention to Caspian who stood at the front of the room. Alexia made her way to stand off to the side behind him.

She watched the alphas from her position. The queen mother had decided to retire to her bed chambers and very few Lunas decided to attend with their mates. Leaving Alexia to be one of a few women that were present.

“Good Morning Everyone, I want to thank you for coming so early but I wished to speak to before you made your way home.” Caspian greeted them.

Heads nodded with a few words that were unable to be discerned in response.

Caspian began. “I will make this brief as I am sure we all have many tasks to attend to.”

The tired eyes around the room were response enough.

“As you all know we have been experiencing an increase in rogue activity-” Sparking a few murmurs of agreement.

Slipping in the back, Jacob and Luca silently entered as the King spoke.

“It has not gone unnoticed and we have begun an investigation in order to better understand. A representative will be sent to each pack to assess any threats to help us better fight off these attackers. “

“A representative? So you’re going to send a random warrior into our lands.” A foolish young alpha spoke from his seat.

The room was suddenly more awake and alert at the underhanded challenge. Alphas were on the edge of their seats, calculating their positions if a fight were to occur.

Caspian kept his composure. “Actually not a warrior but an alpha. I believe you all know Luca Silver.” He said gesturing to Alexia’s brother who was standing next to her father in the back.

The foolish young alpha’s shoulders slumped at the recognition of the name Silver. Turning towards the back, his head dipped in defeat. Luca stared directly at alpha with an unflinching gaze and his arms crossed as he leaned against the wall. The action caused the young alpha to shrink away even more. A warrior was one thing but the son of one of the most powerful alphas was another.

The group settled back down seemingly pleased by the response. The Silvers were known to fierce warriors and honorable men.

In the crowd Alexia saw Alpha Dennis whispering into the ear of the Alpha next to him. She searched her memory trying to remember his name but before she could temper his hand was raised.

“Yes, Alpha Howard.” Caspian said answering her question as he called on the Alpha to speak.

“What if these attempts are unsuccessful?” He questioned with a nod of approval from Alpha Dennis as if he was encouraging him.

After talking with her father, Alexia had learned several things about the alpha. First, his pack was strong with a large territory and various resources. Making him hold a good deal of power. Second, he had served as an advisor to Caspian’s father in his cabinet no matter how much Jacob had protested. Third, above all he was not to be trusted.

Angling her head, she wondered what game he was playing. Could he want to over throw Caspian? He had no sons so it seemed unlikely but his presence made Alexia’s skin crawl.

“We have the upmost confidence that the measures we are taking will prove to be quiet fruitful.” Caspian swept through his question diplomatically.

But the alpha was not pleased with the answer Caspian gave. Again he questioned the king, this time projecting his voice louder. “So we stand by and just follow along while our packs out at risk?”

He statement caused the others to whispher amongst themselves. Caspian’s eyes narrowed but did not respond.

The older alpha seemed to be more bold than the younger one. “You can’t even be bothered to go yourself, instead you send some untested kid in your stead!”

Gasps spread through the room at the daring words. The once bloodshot eyes of the attendees were now gone and replaced with bright round eyes, on edge waiting to see what would unfold before them.

In a calm but viscous voice that could have been classified as a snarl Caspian spoke. “Are you saying I do not care about my people?”

A pen drop could be heard in the room, many afraid to breathe. Enzo’s eyes turned feral.

“If you are working so hard, why are still having these attacks?” He said as stood looking to all the alphas in the room, trying to gain their support.

“We have been taking the necessary steps-“ Caspian said before he was cut off. His self restraint beginning to snap.

“If you can’t handle this, then maybe we need someone to lead us who can. A new king.” Alpha Howard said cutting him off.
