The White Wolf Chapter 118: Time Dragged On

For Enzo, the game of golf seemed like an eternity. He and Dristan’s gamma played against alphas from each court.

His mind was muddled as he swung his club not caring if he won or lost. Impatience filled him as he waited for his companions to take their turns.

The alphas seemed engrossed in talking with each other and thankfully Greyson seemed to have no interest in pointless this conversation. A trait Enzo respected.

Throughout the course, the young Alpha Landry and the young Alpha Peter of the Eastern Kingdom discussed everything from fighting to females.

“What say you?” The young Alpha Landry asked Enzo.

“About what?” He responded dryly not even pretending that he was listening.

“Gemstone’s daughters, the dowries alone could make one of them tolerable.” The ambition gleamed in his eyes.

“I have no interest in them.” The words rang true as the topic bored him.

“It’s not about interest in them as much as interest in their father’s treasury.” Landry insisted.

The line of conversation disgusted Enzo as they spoke of the females as if they were goods or stocks. Granted all three of them he found intolerable so he did not voice his protest.

His thoughts drifted to her. Wondering every detail about her. He had so many questions that went unanswered.

Desperate for a piece of information, he turned to Greyson. “Are you enjoying your time here?”

Greyson cocked an eyebrow. “It is fine.”

“Did you have an easy journey?” He hated himself for asking but he was desperate. Absolutely desperate.

“We had no problems.” The future gamma offered no further explanation.

It felt like he was drinking vinegar to make conversation but he wanted to know about her. He could not come out and blatantly ask “That is good with an entourage your size it could be troublesome.”

“I suppose so.”

“Your beta seemed capable when I met him.” He looked for an opening hoping the conversation would flow in the direction he wished.

“He is.” The blank look on his face was unpromising.

Taking a chance, he finally arrived at his destination “And his sister was nice. What is she like?”

“Quiet.” The only detail he was given but that one word would stay in his mind.

They kept on playing but Enzo did not try to speak of her again as it may rouse suspicion.

“Ah, the females,” Peter announced rounding the corner.

Coming out of his trance Enzo looked to the patio where many of the females were enjoying their tea.

Landry flexed his muscles “I am more happy to put on a show for our audience.” His voice was cocky as he smirked.

The king’s group had already passed through causing the excitement to die down and many of the females to return inside.

Standing in the doorway almost out of sight was Cynthia. Had he not been looking for her, he would have missed her.

It was too far to see her eyes but he could feel them on him.

Arriving at the hole, they each took their turn in front of the watching females. The alphas puffed up their chests trying to show off till it came time for Enzo’s turn.

Knowing he had an announcement, Enzo took his shot with all the concentration he could muster. He swung the golf club hoping it would find its target.

He breathed a sigh of relief when it landed near the goal and did not end up in the bushes as Alpha Landry had.

Finally, they moved on from the sight of the females but Enzo could not help but look back one last time. It was long enough to see her walk inside disappearing from his sight like a breath of air.

Enzo had no idea as to who one the game as he mechanically took his turn each time. His mind was solely on her.

Finally, the game ended and the males rejoined to divulge in snacks and drinks. They boasted and exaggerated their victories.

They dismissed to rest and ready themselves for dinner. Enzo was informed by Gabe the king would be in his study meeting with Alpha Silver and was not to be disturbed. He nodded in response not caring enough to pry for more details. Returning to his chambers time seemed to stand still as Enzo watched the clock.

He wished to see her. She consumed his every thought. Looking down he noticed his hands shaking from not being near her.

Not able to find rest, he took a shower and dressed for dinner. With ample time still to go, he made his rounds checking in with security and staring at screens with no real update. Walking the grounds he tried to work off the tension that was inside him.

Finally, he gave up after making sure every bush was accounted for and arrived to dinner excessively early as the servants were still preparing.

He stared out a window as guests began to file into the room. He did not try to make small talk but tried to focus on their conversations to distract his mind.

The tension and rivalry between the alphas had seemed to lighten after their game of golf creating a more calm atmosphere.

As the room filled up, the Eastern Kingdom Guests started to make an appearance. Prince Dristan walked in followed by his beta and gamma.

Cynthia stood behind her brother in a navy floor-length gown with her hair braided into a crown. Patiently she walked behind the entourage as the prince greeted various officials.

He watched as the members of the court joined them and only then did she utter a word. With the commotion in the room, he strained to hear what words her lips said but to no avail.

As drinks were passed, she stayed next to the beta, never leaving his side. Her quiet demeanor allowed for her brother to dominate to topic of conversation.

The King and Queen arrived and greeted their guests. Enzo made sure to be near the queen but noticed the king kept her closer to him than usual. It was for the best as Enzo was not at his best.

When the butler called, a smile almost broke out across the gamma’s face to see he was seated near her. The procession of dishes began to file out of the kitchen to the waiting guests.

He made himself look away as he feared his stare would burn a hole into her face. Focusing on his meal he stabbed at the meat. By the end of the course, he could no longer take it after what felt like hours he dared to steal a glance.

As his eyes turned to her, he was met with a pair of eyes already looking at him.
