The White Wolf Chapter 18: New Day

The sun was bright through the windows. Caspian groaned as he rolled over covering his head with a pillow.

It was already late in the morning. He had slept in since he stayed up late and it had been a long day. Making his way to the shower he stripped off his clothes leaving them in a pile on the floor as he stepped inside. The hot water helped wash away the tension in his body and the ache in his muscles.

After a hot soak, he felt refreshed and turned off the water. Stepping out of the shower, he wrapped a towel around his waist. He stood in front of the vanity as he went through the process of shaving and fixing his hair. He guided the toothbrush around his mouth and then spit out the toothpaste. Yesterday's events replayed in his head as he starred at his reflection. Shaking his head as if he could shake away the memory, he turned and walked to the the closet.

Emerging in a linen button down and slacks, he left his quarters. Winding through the hallway, he followed the smell of fresh coffee. He popped his head into the kitchen long enough to grab a cup of coffee and plate of food for breakfast before heading to his study.

Sitting down at his desk he sipped his coffee. He did not call for Gabe and Enzo, knowing they were just as exhausted and needed the rest.

He had been working for a while when he heard a knock at the door, and locked up as it was opening. His mother slid in with concern on her face.

"How are you?" she asked with a voice full of worry.

"I have definetly been better, I just cannot figure out who would leak information, if there is a leak or why for that matter." He responded and the took a bite out of his breakfast.

She walked over to him and put her hand lovingly on his shoulder. "Your father had many enemies but he also had great friends, lean on those you can trust to help you." She said to him.

Caspian nodded to what his mother said.

"Besides" She continued. "One day you will find your mate and have somone to rule beside you."

Caspian kept calm saying "That would be nice." He had not told his mother of Alexia since she had not accepted him yet.

"Well my darling boy, I am off to meet with the older luna's." She said patting him on the shoulder.

"Well, have fun with that." He said blandly.

"Oh, you know how it is. All they want to do is brag about their childern." Kissing his cheek, she turned and left the room.

Once again alone with his thoughts, Caspian started thinking of suspects.

The clock ticked as the time past. Caspian worked all afternoon sorting through paperwork and reports.

Enzo strolled in towards the late afternoon. The Gamma took a seat without saying a work.

Caspian looked up and peered at him from across the desk. "Well?" he asked.

"Gabe has been working on cross examining the prisoners this afternoon." Enzo spoke.

"And?" Caspian questioned.

"AND it seems like the rogue was telling the truth. There is somebody on the inside helping. They do not know who unfortunately, since they were not of high rank in the group." Enzo reported to him.

Caspian let out a sigh. "I was hoping that was not the case.... Anyway now the most important thing to do is finding the leak. Is Gabe still with the prisoners?"

"No, he is letting them rest now and went to clean up." Enzo told him.

"Good. Tomorrow have him press them for information on Draxton. I want to know everything, even his eye color." Caspian told him.

Enzo nodded then made his way out. Caspian sat there unable to focus. He tried to focus on his work but to no avail.

He mindlinked his brother. *Do you want to go for a run*

Edmund linked back *Sure, where?*

*Meet me by the treeline* He linked rising from his desk and making his way to the door.

When he arrived, Edmund was leaning againist a tree waiting. Without a word they stripped and took off through the trees.

Caspian lost himself in the feeling of the wind in his fur. Edmund pushed forward trying to race him. No wolf would dare race the king except his little brother.

The race began and their paws dug into the ground propelling them forward. The dodged trees and sailed over rocks till they saw their starting point approaching. They both ran as fast as they could but in the end Caspain won.

They heaved. Trying to fill their lungs with air. Looking at each other they began to laugh just they did when they were childern and shifted back. After putting on their clothes they started toward the palace.

"Not bad little brother." Caspian said laughing as he looked at Edmund.

"I almost had you!" Edmund said animatedly waving his arms.

"Almost but you didn't" Caspain said as he shook his head.

"Hey, I don't know what your laughing for your mate could probably kick your ass." Edmund said as his pride was bruised.

Caspian calmed as he said "Did you know?"

"Know what? That she was a white wolf? Yes. That she was your mate? Yes." He responded.

Immediately stopping Caspian turned and grabbed Edmund by the bicep. "You knew she was my mate and you did not tell me!" He said with fire in his eyes.

"Yes I did! Because I found out by finding her crying about over hearing you with some other woman!" Edmund fired back and Caspian let go of his arm as if it had burned him at the touch.

"I will do right by her..." He said with his heart breaking for his mate.

Edmund stilled. It was a sided of his brother he had never seen, he studied him.

"Good. She would be an amazing queen but you need to make sure you deserve her first." Edmund said in a calm voice.

"I will." Caspian said with determination in his voice as he looked his brother in the eye.
