Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 113: Call it a Hunch
Cynthia retreated from their sight. As she walked away, Alexia turned to Enzo who had stumbled upon their encounter. “She seems nice, have you met her yet?”
The confliction in Enzo came off as gruff annoyance when he responded “Briefly.” Giving Alexia no indication to pry further, she dropped the subject.
Harley stepped in to fill Enzo with any irregularities they had discovered while checking on preparations for him to rely on security. Going through her checklist she compiled a written list for Enzo so he would not forget.
Normally he was annoyed with the secretary but at this moment he had never been more thankful for painstaking attention to detail. He had no headspace to pay attention to Harley's words and would simply deliver her list to the palace guards to investigate.
Morgan walked quietly as the group ventured through the palace. Before she had been an endless stream of chatter but now her lips were sealed shut.
Alexia spoke with the heads of various departments of staff while Harley took notes and spoke with Enzo.
They concluded the inspection ending back at the queen’s study. Harley laid out paperwork for her to review before tea time. Even with the visitors, there was still work that required the Queen's attention.
Morgan sat in a chair bored by the paperwork. Her eyes roamed the walls as she took in every nook and cranny.
“Is that all?” Alexia asked Harley as they came to the end and Haley filed the last piece of paper.
“I believe so, we will leave you to freshen up before tea.” Gesturing to Enzo, she turned for the door.
Stepping forward Enzo did not follow Harley to the door “Actually, there is something I need to discuss with the Queen before tea.”
Rising from her seat, Alexia stopped to look at the gamma questioningly.
Stopping her exit, Harley stared between the Queen and Gamma.
Seeing that Harley was no longer moving “Thank you, Harley, that will be all.”
Coming out of her trance, Harley bowed and went for the door.
Shifting her attention to her little sister, if it was something personal Enzo wished to speak about then it would be best if they speak alone. “Morgan would you like to go with Harley-“
“No Thank you, I’ll stay here and listen.” Her eyes were filled with curiosity as she watched the scene unfold.
“It’s fine, it involves her somewhat as well.” Enzo waved off the concern that was on the queen’s face and received Morgan’s undivided attention.
Sitting back down, Alexia leaned back in her chair. “Now I’m intrigued do continue.”
“I cannot say it is good news but something you need to be aware of before tea this afternoon.” His eyes were serious as he looked straight at her, with no humor on his face.
Her eyes narrowed as she focused “Go on.”
“Edmund and Luca gave their report this morning of Alpha Dennis’s pack. During their report, they mentioned that Delilah was waiting for Luca in his room one night unclothed.” Enzo confessed. He allowed his words to sink in.
His words made her blood boil causing her claws to shoot out from her hands. Her eyes turned dark as she gritted her teeth.
Letting out a sigh she retracted her claws. “Do we know why?”
“Motive is unsure but most likely she’s trying to make an insult at your Majesty,” Enzo spoke calmly his voice was void of any emotion. He did not even bat an eye as the queen showed her claws.
The gamma continued “Alpha Dennis may use this information to try and startle you with the guests in the palace. No doubt he wishes to replace you with his daughter on the throne.”
“Very well, we shall not let her succeed then.” Alexia held her head high trying to speak as if she were unbothered.
“Agreed, she thrives off of misery and tears.” His years of Delilah roaming the palace had left a bitter taste in his mouth as the king had been blind to her schemes.
Morgan let out a snort who had been watching the exchange with wide eyes.
Remembering her little sister, Alexia realized such topics might not be suitable for a young female. Alexia grasped at straws trying to explain the situation as delicately as possible "Morgan you see sometimes-"
Her attempt was caught off "I know about the birds and bees and have no fear I will not tell Mother"
"I'm sure your father will inform her as he was present at the meeting," Enzo informed the,
"Still I do not believe it is a topic either parent wishes to discuss with their daughters," Alexia said.
Not wanting to stay on the unpleasant topic, Alexia switched course. “Anyways, can you have someone look into Alpha Lennon’s finances and see if he’s having trouble?”
“Alpha Lennon? Why him?” Enzo seemed perplexed, the first time he had shown any emotion at all during their discussion.
“Call it a hunch.” She waved her hand but offered no more explanation.
“I will put someone on it when I speak to intelligence.” Enzo was in no mood to pry or care for that matter. His interest dissipated as quickly as it came.
"If that is all, we will prepare for tea and I believe you have a round of golf waiting for you," Alexia said rising from her chair.
Enzo left and Morgan accompanied Alexia to her chambers. After touching up her makeup and fixing her hair, she changed into the outfit Harley had set out for her. A relaxed dress for a relaxing afternoon or at least in theory.
Caspain had already returned and changed into his golfing attire as the room was filled with his scent. His smell had a calming effect on the queen and helped her remove the scowl from her forehead.
Not having her clothes with her, Morgan wandered into the queen's closet and found something she deemed suitable to wear.
Once they were ready, they exited the royal chambers.
breaking the silence Morgan said, "I cannot wait to see Cynthia again?"
"Why?" Confused by her interest in the quiet female.
"Oh, no reason." Morgan giggled as they walked through the halls.
She would have pressed further but they arrived at their destination. Taking a deep breath, she prepared herself.
