Werewolf
The White Wolf Chapter 44: Meeting Discussions
The world paused for a second as the others registered what had been said. Confusion crossing their faces.
Edmund laughed at the twins and their father. “Brilliant.” The only one seeming to comprehend what it was they had said.
“Am I missing something?” Gabe asked with a quirk of his eyebrow, speaking what the others were thinking.
“A few IQ points.” Judy taunted the beta with glassy eyes, sparking laughs from around the room. It was hard to decide what was more amusing, the remark or the slightly intoxicated woman who said it.
“I have street smarts!” Gabe retorted as he straightened his back.
“The corner doesn’t count.” Enzo fired from where he was standing.
“Et, tú Brute?” Gabe said to the gamma while clutching his chest in shock.
The two began to bicker with their brotherly bond on full display. The others let them argue while they finished their breakfast and coffee. It was not until Alexia poured herself another cup of hot brew, that she interrupted their spat.
“Anyway” Alexia said with a roll of eyes. “Morgan is our little sister.”
“Oh!” Gabe perked up, his hurt feelings gone as soon as they came. “That could definitely work.”
“Mhmm” Judy said with a hiccup of agreement.
“I will speak with Morgan to see if she can try to gather information while all the alphas are here.” Alexia announced to the group before sitting back down in her spot.
Jacob nodded before saying. “Morgan is a good idea but not enough. We need to be seriously investigating.”
“I will be going out again to see what I can find.” Caspian declared. He did not like the idea of anyone wanting to endanger the life of his mate. Making it his mission, he was going to get to the bottom of it.
“I would advice against that.” Enzo cut in with a weary tone, not wanting to disagree with the king.
“And why not?” Caspian turned in surprise to look at the gamma but it was Gabe who gave him an explanation.
“Because wherever you go, it’s a circus of cameras, reports, and the whole parade. No way you can get in out without a heap of questions and prying eyes.” The beta told him bluntly then took a sip of his drink.
“Then I’ll go.” Alexia stated as if she had solved their problem.
“Absolutely not.” Caspian immediately said after the words were out of her mouth in a tone that left no room for negotiation.
His hands clutched the edge of the desk, threatening to break off the intricate woodwork.
“And why not?” Alexia asked crossing her arms as if she was ready to battle.
Caspian looked at her as if what she had said was completely absurd. The two stared at each other. Neither one wanting to relent.
“Because that would be the same problem as the king going.” Gabe spoke to her calmly hoping to ease the tension
“Oh.” She said as the red crept onto her cheeks from the embarrassment of forgetting her new station.
Sending his sister’s embarrassment, Luca stepped in. “I can do it.”
The room turned to him at attention at the sound of his voice.
“I don’t see why not? I’m perfectly capable of handling this.” Luca continued as no one spoke.
Caspian gave a nod of approval. “You’re right. You’re the best person to go. Whatever you need, it’s yours.”
Jacob looked like he wanted to disagree, a mixture of emotion crossed his face.
After what felt like an eternity, His father spoke. “Are you sure?”
“Yes. It’s time I go out on my own. I can’t sit on the sidelines anymore.” Luca explained with emotion in his voice.
“Ok, ok.” Jacob said as he saw Luca starting to get worked up. “I want you to take warriors from Silver Moon with you, warriors we can trust.”
Luca nodded in agreement.
“And” Jacob said pointedly. “You’re telling your mother.” Causing Luca to grimace at the thought.
“It looks like dawn is upon us” Caspian said with a glance out the window. “Get ready for our meeting with the alphas.” He added looking at Gabe.
The beta nodded with a stretch and made his way out the door. Enzo grabbed himself an apple and coffee of the cart before following after Gabe.
After promising to speak later, Jacob and Luca left to bid their mates good morning.
Alexia gave Caspian a kiss on the cheek before making her way to the library, eager to find out what secrets it held for her.
Slipping out without a word, Edmund hoped to avoid his mother’s gaze and was granted the small mercy of her being distracted.
They would reconvene to speak in front of the alphas. The information they would give them would be the partial truth. Enough to help ease the tension and keep people from looking to deeply.
With the added bonus of the majority of the alphas being majorly hungover to keep them from thinking too hard.
The silence encapsulated the room as mother and son let the quiet settle over them.
Caspian poured his mother a glass of water and placed it next to her.
“You’re a good son.” Judy praised her oldest as she took a drink of the glass.
“If I was, I would stage an intervention.” Caspian said with sigh of exasperation, rubbing his hand through his hair.
Judy ignored his concern. Years of life at court had turned her as tough as leather and her liver invincible. There was no storm she could not stand against.
She understood the seriousness that they were facing as there had been many threats and conspiracies again it’s her own sons in their lifetimes.
Just as this new threat emerged she would work to stomp it into the ground. With the waves of rage that she could feel rippling off Caspian as he sat near her, she knew he would not stop till his mate was safe.
