The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 108
Isabelle
“Better the steed of the master than any of the others. He is the most loyal…. Also he was cut to ribbons last time. He was not anywhere near full strength… but he will be nest time. You should have cut him into more sections Ash.” Grumbled Uncle Jerold before crossing his arms.
“My mate and grandpups are up there, I was distracted.” He complained. “Are you ok?” He yelled.
“We are fine!” Yelled Grandma.
“The door’s jammed.” I yelled, and he walked up the stairs. He didn’t say anything else, but he surprised me by being able to rip through the metal door… Even Grandma couldn’t With the Royal Guard Commander.
He picked up Bryson carefully, using some of the scraps from grandma’s dress that was on the ground and carried him. “I did not think Asanguis would be able to sense Bryson’s blood from so many miles away. He was buried deep… yet woke still…” He mumbled.
“What of his blood?” I asked.
“Asanguis’s poisonous blood has likely already evaporated into the air… and the wind will eventually carry his scent to the others. However, he is only Xaxas’s steed. He holds no rank, so hopefully no one will care.” He mumbled.
“Izzy don’t worry about that. What we need right now is to get him healed up, and get you two Home. You five need to be as far away from him as possible.” He mumbled.
“… yeah…” I said quietly. I didn’t think I was in company I could trust to speak of what I wanted, so I silently obeyed and followed them. They took Bryson to my room in the Third Seat’s Quarters…and Heidi healed him with magic, but he would not wake… I was thankful that John made her hide instead of try to help…. but I felt bad that the only thing I could really think about were my mate and pups….
They didn’t cough… They would have been fine… but what of all the men and women who were Melted? They wouldn’t even have anything left to bury…. “Heidi are you ok?” I asked her, and she hugged me.
“I’m fine. If it got bad, I was already working on a teleportation spell in the Council Room to evacuate everyone to StoneMoon… They would’ve had to catch a flight back though.” She smiled sheepishly.
John crossed his arms. “The real question is ‘Are You ok?’ You don’t smell it.”
“For the sake of my pups I have to be.” I mumbled. They were asleep, but smelled normal. It was their regular naptime… but I wanted to wake them to check on them.
“Isabelle just rest, alright? I don’t want to worry about you too.” Said John.
“What of your father?” I asked.
“His spine is broken, but he will live….” He said quietly.
“…oh… I’m so sorry John.” I mumbled, but he patted my head.
“Don’t worry about it. He’s a big guy, and he’s already awake.” He lied, I could feel it… but he was trying to help me feel better. The Blue Serpent did that with a single wingbeat…
“Bryson is fully healed though… Maybe if he trains, he can get strong enough to help.” Said Heidi, changing the subject after an eye flash. They were linking each other, but I wasn’t strong enough to pry. I wouldn’t want to anyway… well maybe if only to know if Alpha Ronitus was acutely ok…. I doubted he would want to see me being the mate of the Horned One’s son….
Jerold came in limping, but that was all I could see. “Where’s his soul?” He said gruffly, taking one glance at him.
“I am not to interfere.” She mumbled, and Jerold pursed his lips.
“Jerold no.” Said Grandfather out of breath. He smelled as if he were rotted, still naked and wet from I could only guess was a shower. His back looked really eaten up.
“I won’t. You Knew and did nothing. Now we must deal with another Old One… One who now has his birthright. You should have slit his throat in the arena once his soul was taken.” He growled.
“We don’t know that my mate would side with the Horned One.” I said defensively, and I got a pat on my head by the man I called Uncle.
“You’re young. Naive. Easy to manipulate. Those are not bad things, but Zuviel is a God. He knows what to say and do to make you Choose to follow him. Bryson is now a threat.” He said glaring at him.
“But hurting him Will make the Horned One intervene. And if not him, his other brother.” I mumbled.
“He waits for his promised.” He said crossing his arms.
“Who is Technically Already Here.” I yelled. “I know I shouldn’t have said that but you know I’m right! Kill him, and the one everyone has literally Begged to stay asleep might rise up.” I warned. I wasn’t even sure of what I was saying, but I could not defend him from two kings… And I didn’t want them to fight each other either….
“She is young, but she is right Aeschylus. Bryson speaks with his father, but he did not die, so there is no Reason for him to side with him. He is an Old One proper now… he may not even die.” Said grandpa.
“He smells mortal Ash. He Can die… but… I can’t see him waking up and Living the birthright given to him.” he mumbled.
“We barely stopped calamity if not for my grandpup’s distraction. Her honest words stopped the beast... had he eaten any of the men he killed, he would have been too much for us both.”
“Forgive me…. my worry for this world clouded my judgement of your mate…” He looked at him, placing a hand on Bryson’s chest. It glowed a deep red before I could see his tattoo proper. It was a hammer in a circle… “I feel no evil… only dark energy if that makes sense.”
“Good. All the more reason to come with me.” Said Grandma coming in. “All of you leave them be.” She gently grabbed grandpa’s arm, and he nodded.
“Bryson will wake soon pup, do not worry.” He smiled.
Tyson followed by the other little ones snuggled under my mate’s arm with big yawns. Soon we will need to train them to sleep in their own bed… but for now I wouldn’t worry of that.
After they left, I locked the door for no real reason… because realistically I knew full well if grandfather could take on a giant snake, he could burst through a wooden door… I climbed in bed and texted Mini.
She was happy, and Caleb was well. They were still at our packhouse, choosing to stay to keep Noah company. I wanted to tell them the truth… that I wasn’t ok… that all this change was too much too fast… and something I didn’t want to admit, even to myself.
I was scared for my mate’s mind when he woke… He smelled of darkness. He always smelled enraged and powerful, that I was used to… but there was never an ominous scent to it… not like this. I hesitated to think of what it meant if he had to fight grandfather… he wasn’t as strong as him… not Yet. He mumbled reaching around for me…
I crawled into bed, and he held me like he always does… he calmed. He almost looked as if he were smiling. I hoped everything would be ok…. I really did.
-------Bryson-------
I held my mate while she slept, and the pups as well. They snored in a little ball together, clueless as to the danger that had formed from my own doing and my King’s pride…. I bled on the earth again… allot of it.
Enough that my brother was roused… and I felt called. I couldn’t explain it any other way.
I kissed them each one by one, and left out. I knew realistically I was too late if anything were to happen…
What did happen before I was whipped? That was all I remembered…. Walking wasn’t painful but it was difficult. It felt as though my body was failing me at the moment. My muscles screamed rest, but I made my way down the stairs.
Servants scrambled to move out of my way, or ask did I need something, but I followed the smell of cleaner to the arena. Warriors were training in there; however I could still smell my own blood…. I could almost hear the pitiful yelp I made…. a small shame washed over me… I was to be my mate’s strength…. Yet I saw her tears and felt her worry for me.
There was a single blue haired man in the arena’s stone bleachers…. But I could see through him. He waved, and I did back, however a few men waved at me thinking that I was at them…. they could not see him. Interesting.
“Do you know who I am? Do you recognize me?” He grinned… I noticed he had horns. They were much smaller than mine, but I would share words with him if he wanted.
“You are a brother.” I said going up, and sitting next to him. Many looked around, wondering what or who I was talking to, but I ignored them. They all seemed afraid of me… I found that a little odd because they had none for me yesterday, if anything they hated me because their Alpha did.
“I am yours to command as much as big brother.” He bowed his head to me.
“No. I want nothing to do with that.” I said flatly about to get up.
“I sleep under your feet.” He bowed again. “Say but a word and I will rise. I have the energy to because of you. I owe you one.” He said with a hiss at the end.
“I’ll take the favor but stay where you are.” I mumbled. He snarled.
“That wolf flayed you! Beheaded me!” He snarled standing and the ground beneath my feet shook.
“Yes, but as I told father I Willingly wanted that…. I didn’t know you rose from the earth.” I said calmly. I figured getting as emotional as him would only make him worse.
“Father knew and did nothing because you did not summon him. I’m here and you want nothing of me.” He complained. “See now how they run and cower like ants beneath you. Wield me, command me to kill again.” I looked down at the arena of warriors. They’d made their way out of the training area or looked back at me speaking with nothing, but it had to be something if the earth rumbled.
“I will decline for now, but I may have need of you if anything ever happens to my mate.” I grumbled.
“…. Why is this…. Mate so important? What is this word?” He asked with crossed arms. “It’s all you and Master ever talk about.
“She is half of me, and all I owe in this life is because of her… maybe ask for one.” I suggested, and he disappeared.
“The Pale Lady would likely give me nothing… but I would ask. You and Master are of her blood, full gods… I am only flesh and clay…” I heard on the wind, and I got up, no longer feeling the call to venture out from my room.
