Bryson

“Good morning.” I chuckled, and she smiled softly.

“I’d never heard them yip like that before, but I never wanted to kill whoever did it so bad before either.” She said with a small smile.

“Good to know. They were saying ‘ow’ I swear.” I smelled her hair, and she growled softly.

“Yeah right.” She smiled. “They were pulling each other’s ears again, weren’t they?” She asked suspiciously, slapping me on the chest lightly. I had put my hands on her butt and squeezed.

“I broke it up; they had Grace.” I glared at them lightly. They were small children; they didn’t know any better.

“Lady good grief…. I’ll make breakfast.” She said happily, putting the pups down to follow us. They bounced with their tails in the air, and played in the living room while I sat on the couch. She got out some eggs and sausage, along with bacon and bread.

“I heard allot of commotion, what happened last night?” She asked sweetly, and I figured there was no point in hiding it.

“My father came to me last night, and it made the pack nervous. He did that on his own, I want nothing to do with him.” I told her, and she stopped frying the egg on the stove so she could confront me.

“Bryson… do you think he’s planning something? I think he was using you… Maybe for now no more trying to force Ven….” She said pointing her spatula at me, but I should have explained better.

“You’re right, and I don’t know what. He’s a dark god, of course he is, but he swore that it would be peaceful for the pups’ sake.” My mate took an elk liver and a raw egg, putting it in the blender. Even the warriors were put off….

“No… I don’t want that. I may be a monster, but I have taste buds little mate.” I crossed my arms, but she drank it straight out the blender, then put my eggs and sausage on a plate with toast.

“Ha! You thought This was for you.” She teased. “I’m going to start putting this in a little bowl or something for them soon, but I need this.” She said happily, and I raised an eyebrow. They were born the wolf yes, but I don’t think they would like their meat like that… how could she?

My warriors looked as if they had calmed down somewhat, but I didn’t really trust that they were settled. They listened intently to our conversation, but I kept an eye on the pups. I didn’t want anyone near them besides me or my mate. I scented Zackery’s pup, and I would make an exception. He was trustworthy enough.

Adam had his backpack, ready for school, but he made sure to stop to bow to us, and offer me a high five. “I get to take the Warrior Jr test today Alpha! Well, not the real one, but if I pass, I can next year!” He beamed, and I ruffled his hair.

“You will pass; don’t worry so much.” I told him, and he grinned wide, running off out the door.

“Thanks Alpha!” He yelled before the door closed.

I ate while I watched them, and Kaizen wiggle ran to my feet… I looked at my mate, who spoke with the warriors. They had seen Alpha Ryan approaching the HalfMoon border, by himself, meaning he was probably coming for his son. He also had to have driven most of the early dawn and some of the night. I looked down at my son, who looked innocently at me. I knew this would go fine, but I would have them all placed upstairs before he got here. The pack didn’t want to make any moves without me, which meant now I had to deal with him again.

I picked him up, but he only seemed interested in my plate, not my love. “Awe Alpha let him have some.” Said Gamma Alexander, but I rolled my eyes at him. I didn’t know if they could have eggs, and I wouldn’t be the idiot that got them sick.

“How far is Ryan?” I asked, seeing my mate’s chipper mood turn sour.

“He won’t be here for another half hour sir.” Responded Warrior Yale from patrol last night, he was with his mate, Warrior Darrel. I was surprised that those two didn’t leave the pack.

“I want the woman and pups away from him, especially Luna.” I shot her a glare, because I knew she was going to fight me on this.

“Alpha No! I can’t let you do this again alone!” She ran to me, shaking my arm, but I would not let her do that. He was coming alone and unarmed. Even if he was, I was already given a way to return by being my father’s Champion… so it wouldn’t matter. All I wanted was her safe.

“Alpha, he’s already been stripped and escorted by our warriors.” Said Warrior Commander Paul.

“He’s coming to grovel sir.” Said a dark brown haired Warrior. Their names were a loss to me at the moment, and I hated that.

“Good. However, I still want my pups and Luna upstairs. I will not let them be at risk” I growled a real growl. It was like music to my ears, but I could see it brought my pack fear. I sounded different from my usual growl… but then I wasn’t awakened. Now I was.

“I’m not scared of you Bryson.” Said my mate, who’s wolf kneeled in her mind. That I could see it so clearly meant that Glitter was, and I would soothe this. I quietly walked to her, and hugged her as gently as I could. I wasn’t dominant with her, nor was I rough. She worried of my death, and wanted to be there to protect me. She didn’t have to; I was strong enough. I let her growl at me until she settled, opting to shed tears down my chest.

“I’m not going anywhere wildflower…. I need you safe. The pups need you safe.” I told her on a gentle whisper, but she slapped my chest I believe with all her might.

“You said that before you died… I can’t Bryson. I can’t follow this order. Even if you tied me to the bed or locked me in a cell, I have to be here this time… I have to.” She pleaded for me to change my mind, but I couldn’t. She’d already died. I wasn’t sure what would happen to her.

“This is a risk I cannot take. Warrior Commander Paul and Gamma Alexander, I will take my family to our room, and you keep them there.” I commanded, picking her up, and she kicked and screamed the entire way while Alexander rounded up the pups. They were already full, so it wasn’t hard, but they could go about walking speed now.

“Sorry Luna.” Said my Warrior Commander, but she was silent after her tears. She felt betrayed. I would not waver on this.

“I will return.” I vowed, but she said nothing. I could hear her thinking of how our bond felt when I was gone… and it made me feel guilty. Deep down I knew I did the right thing. I didn’t know how to explain it other than I was right.

“Sir he’s here.” Said Warrior Johnson, alert and at the bottom of the stairs. I remembered now very vividly the names of the original warriors that pledged to me, and he would guard the bottom of the stairs.

There were at least 50 other warriors surrounding the packhouse, and I saw Ryan was surrounded. He wasn’t even allowed to drive his own car in the event he was hiding something. They made it clear that he would die today if anything happened, but I could see in his eyes that he looked defeated. He walked through the doors, looking at the spot where I died, then looking at me he immediately submitted.

“Alpha Bryson.” He bowed deeply, waiting for me to allow him to rise. I allowed it; I had no grudge against him.

“Why have you come?” I asked motioning him to sit, while Beta made coffee.

“I have come as a sacrifice.” He said with conviction, though everyone could smell his fear.

“Sacrifice? I thought I already told you all I don’t want or need that.” I grumbled.

“I wish then to offer myself as collateral that my pack and pups be safe from your destruction. I will also relinquish my Alpha status…. And my family will be gone before you arrive if you allow them a head start. I hope I am enough… Do with me what you will.” He stared at my horns, then immediately looked down when he saw I noticed. His words made my pack nervous as well…. But I didn’t understand why everyone always seemed to think that that’s what I wanted.

“Lady damnit… I don’t want that. Go home.” I said drinking my coffee, but he seemed determined.

“Sir I failed. Allow me to make this right.” He said like a pack wolf pleading to their Alpha. He was completely defeated, even knowing that I had no wolf, he surrendered. Most strong wolves could tell, not just that I told them…

“I will make no move toward you and yours. I have the responsible one, and I intend on just killing him. I’m going to release Ryan’s son myself and allow them to leave in one of the pack cars. Keep my mate safe.” I commanded to no one in particular, but three warriors ran off to follow my order.

“Alpha, Warrior Lionel was originally in CharredMoon, but he was retrieved when Beta Zack got word you were alive.” Said Warrior Darrel, one of the outer guards I originally commissioned to watch the house.

“Thank you, Alpha Bryson.” Ryan said looking into his coffee, confused on my actions.

“I may be a monster Ryan, but I am no tyrant. I get no joy from the pain of the others. I just do what I do to protect what is mine…. Also, I am only a man… I need no tribute.”

Now came the part that worried me… I walked to the door, hesitating slightly, but nothing happened when I opened it. He got up and followed me outside. The sun was still out, but it would set in a few hours. He looked like he still couldn’t understand why I just let his son free. It was because I was a father too.
