The Lunar Fest celebration was only a month away, but today was the pups’ actual birthdays. I was outside with them as my wolf along with my mate, who was also shifted. My Wildflower looked healthy, and it made me happy. It meant I took care of her well…and that she’d healed from birthing our tiny clawed children. The pups as small as they were took so much from her body, even her life. They were about five and a half pounds now, and I think they were getting a bit of a growth spurt now that they were being weaned.

Like this. I howled, followed by my mate, and probably the entire packhouse. I wanted them to learn how to howl, mostly because in my mate’s words…. It would be cute. They howled for all of two seconds, but it softened my heart just the same.

Soon they would be big enough to run with me in the forests, and hunt.

Bryson I heard that! That won’t be for years! Complained my mate, letting the pups nip her paws. They seemed to be growing the same rate as any other child. We both worked at correcting it, but they thought of fingers and paws as playthings. My bark stopped it, though I hated to do that. I was a werewolf, not a dog.

Papa! They squealed running, only to get a stick forgetting that I had just corrected them.

“Good morning Alpha! Happy birthday little ones!” Said a mother with her small pup in a stroller. He smelled about the same age as mine. I greeted her with a nod, and continued watching.

A normal wolf in the wild would be an adult in one or two years, however my pups were shifters…. It would be about 14 before they could hunt small game with me and 17 before they could take an elk. Possibly sooner if they worked together.

I trotted ahead, not responding to her huff, scouting for any signs of idiots or boars. They would probably be the only creature in my forests crazy enough to charge them, but I’d hunted them enough that they feared my scent…

I heard that too! Alpha we’re at the park. There’s no game here, only nature for pups. Corrected my mate, and I felt a bit foolish….

“Morning Alpha!” Beamed a jogging pack wolf, and I gave him a nod.

I worry because I know what’s out there. I complained, but she snuggled herself against me.

I know Bryson… but relax! You’re always so ready to fight. Kill or be killed…. Trust me we can shift, and drive home in a few more minutes…. They need to get out their zoomies. She yipped, and I nuzzled the top of her head.

For your sake I will relax…. A little. Not too much though. I said keeping a stern lookout while she broke from me, trotting around so they could chase her. They played with her as if she were their size showing no fear, and I was proud.

I puffed my chest, and there was the flash of a camera. “Alpha you don’t mind if I take your picture for the school paper?” Asked a scruffy red haired teen, who should have been in school. It was Monday!

You already took it. I growled. It alerted the pack, making anyone within earshot growl as well.

Shouldn’t you be in class…? Linked my mate, and he nodded.

“I heard gossip that you were out, and well… I may have snuck out.” He bowed, looking submissive, but my mate intervened.

Why don’t you take a photo of all of us together instead and we can take you to class afterword? She common linked, and I could approve of that. I didn’t like them, but it would not be so bad to have something to keep as a memento of when they were small, and there was peace.

“Alright Luna. Let me know when you’re ready.” He smiled, and I helped her wrangle them up, though we both knew there was no way in hell they would hold still.

Isabelle was in front, while I stood behind her, nearly twice her size…. And my little ones wiggled after a fallen leaf, because it was bright yellow, and moving in the slight breeze.

Take it now. My mate commanded, and he took it while I was watching them all nip at the leaf. They didn’t like the taste, but it was something to chew on.

“This looks great.” He beamed, turning the camera around, and coming to us so we could see it. “Again… sorry for interrupting your time together.” He grinned rubbing the back of his neck.

You’re fine. You’re probably braver than about three quarters of the pack. I linked him, and my mate nuzzled my neck.

“Alpha… I find that hard to believe…” He put his head down with a small smile. I shifted, and put a pat on his shoulder.

“I’ve seen grown men piss themselves for so much as a glare, yet you stand tall, and share words without issue. Come, let’s get you back to school.” I said walking to the car to get me and my mate’s clothes. It was only about 9 in the morning; he could still catch up with his lesson.

I came back with her dress in my hand, and my jeans on, but he was holding Grace. She wiggled in protest, but I was surprised she didn’t nip him. “My little sister’s named Gracey! You’re so cute! Like a million times cuter than she is!” He giggled, putting her down into the little basket.

“Did I miss something?” I asked, feeling my head with the back of my hand to check if I had a fever.

“I did the same thing!” Smiled my mate, while I took the basket, letting her slip on her dress. Her and the teen followed me, and when we got in the car, he sat in the backseat while Isabelle held the basket.

“So, do you want to be a journalist…. You certainly have the guts for it.” She smiled.

“Well ma’am honestly I never thought about it… but I’m an Omega, I doubt anyone would want to hire me. I was just going to work with my mom at the mill. She’s the secretary.” He said smiling softly.

“Oh, I know her, Mrs. Candice, right?” She smiled and he nodded, but I didn’t.

“That won’t do.” I grumbled. “You have guts and talent. Surely there’s something you could do more aligned with your passion.”

“I run the school newspaper… it’s online…. What if there was one for the entire pack? Like a newsletter?” He suggested.

“I actually miss reading the paper.” I mumbled. It wasn’t often… but there were times when after the printing press was popular that I would occasionally find old news… it passed the time.

“We could send it through the MoonPack System.” Said Isabelle, wiggling her fingers to play with Tyson. He was tired, but not enough to go just yet.

“Then it’s settled. Since you’re the one who suggested it, there will be a place for you pup.” I could see as I pulled into the school that his eyes lit up like he’d won the lottery. I couldn’t understand why some Alphas completely ignored pack because they had a sleeping wolf. That never sat well with me.

I heard sniffles. “Thank you sir.”

“No, I should be thanking you. I hadn’t had the time to think of any of this. You’re idea is very practical since the pack is so large, and this will spread faster than inaccurate gossip.” I pulled into a parking space that wasn’t mine, because someone was in it. I could only assume they figured I wouldn’t come to the high school yet, seeing as how my pups weren’t even in grade school.

“I will cherish this Alpha; I won’t let you down!” He beamed running out the car going to I assumed the office.

“I figure I should go talk to the school so he isn’t in too much trouble.” I mumbled, and my mate kissed my cheek.

“I’ll wait in the car. I don’t want them going off on an adventure inside.” She smiled softly. They looked like they were about ready for a nap, so I doubt they would’ve left the basket, but since they were getting big, I didn’t want to push it. They were altogether about 17ish pounds of pup.

I walked in to hear someone yelling somewhat. “You know I have to call your parents Lincoln.” Said a male voice sternly.

“Principal Colt Please don’t call my dad! He’s gonna kill me!” Whined the pup, but I would save him.

“You snuck out of your classes and walk through the double doors like you run the place, what did you expect young man?” He growled.

“Warrior Jr. Tilly said he saw Alpha at the park this morning, I SWEAR on my hide-” he was cut off.

“Enough. I’m taking your camera for the rest of the afternoon. Warrior Harlem can pick it up after school.” I recognized that name… He lived in the packhouse. I’d had a beer with him before I died.

“No! Dad’s gonna loose it!” He whined.

I walked into the office, and about everyone in the room looked like they saw a ghost, save the boy. “He speaks the truth…. Plus I want my pups’ birthday photos.” I chuckled.

“I can bring them to your office when I get out of Journalism Club!” He beamed.

“Fair enough, but no more sneaking out.” I patted his hair. “But don’t think you’re off the hook either. I want you to help every teacher you ditched today.”

“Lady damnit!” He growled, though it sounded human.

Inside the car my mate was on her phone while the pups were completely asleep in their basket. It looked high time to order the next size up…. either that or let them ride in the backseat. I doubt they would behave being so young.
