“Luna would you like some more boar? I still have barbeque sauce.” Said Hazel. My wolf had calmed down now that there were other wolves around, not just one she wolf to fixate on. She also was with Alex, our Gamma, so it would be good to spend time with her and make friends if I could. She proudly wore her mark, sporting a deep V neck shirt so people would know she was taken.

“Why not. We can share. Where’s Gabby?” I asked, and she pointed to her, she was just walking out her tent, as she had put her pups to bed. The air was clear and really cold tonight, but thankfully we were wolves, and the hot fire, food, and friends was enough.

“Luna, I have some leftover steamed carrots if you want.” Smiled Gabby, and she filled my plate to the brim. I didn’t mind I loved that we had good company. Also I was starving.

“Alex told me about Alpha’s interrogation of the new member.” She said taking a bite of barbecue boar ribs.

All three of us already knew, we were the mates to the three most powerful wolves in the pack. “I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m worried about the first snow. It rained slush like three times in a row. We need to keep saving the skins and using rags for new blanket material. There are so many babies too, their tents need to be closest to the communal fire.” I directed and they nodded, taking mental notes. Our Delta Matty sat down next to us. Delta was just an accountant, so there were not any expectations of fighting from her. She would manage payroll and finances once we get the ball rolling.

“This is our land now, so in the spring, will we start building homes?” Asked Hazel. As a fellow descendant of the court, she knew the laws as well.

“I suppose so, though it would be nice to have the buildings up to code, as well as create a profession that we can do to generate money.” I said with concern.

“HalfMoon specializes in forestry, along with PineMoon. Sustainable forestry makes the pack more than enough to function, though it’s all done on the left side of the pack territory, so the other side is still untouched. If your pack has anything wood, it probably came from here.” Said Delta Matty. She was a tall she wolf who had cinnamon skin and long thick gray hair. It was frizzy like mine, though mine was fluffier. She too had a fluffball of a wolf, and the thought made me smile a little.

“That’s something that we all could do. It shouldn’t be hard to get that to work with all the beautiful forest around us. I’ll bring it up to Bryson tonight.” I hummed at how good those ribs were, and I tossed the bones in the fire. That way it wouldn’t attract bears or coyotes to the camp. I walked to the dish washing area and I was overwhelmed at how even small children offered to wash it. Everyone insisted that the Luna need not do such a menial task, but I would not be treated like a princess.

That just wasn’t what I wanted… I didn’t want people to think of me as just some spoiled little girl who fucks Alpha. I doubt they saw me like that, but if I didn’t put the work in to show them who I was, I could become that to them. No one would say that to my face, but they would talk.

I heard Bryson snarl, and a slam. He had someone pinned to the ground, and he looked like he was going to break him in half. “I didn’t mean it like that!” screamed the man.

“What did ‘you mean it like’ then?” He interrogated.

“I was just giving your mate a complement Sir!” He squealed. And I sighed. He was an idiot to think that Bryson would have taken it any other way. I didn’t even know what he said, but it didn’t matter.

“Alpha, please don’t kill him over something so small.” I said walking to him, and putting my hand on his shoulder. He snarled.

“Anything that pertains to you isn’t small to me.” He got off the man, but put his foot on his back so he couldn’t run.

“Alpha… that’s not what I meant. What I’m saying is that he shouldn’t die for his words. He was being an idiot.” I say motioning to him. His eyes pleaded mercy, but Bryson stood there a while.

“If I ever hear you say anything about my mate again, I will break your spine and leave you to rot under a boulder. Am I clear?” He sneered.

“Yes Sir!” He yelled with a submissive whine, and he ran off once he was let go.

“Thank you Bryson.” I rubbed his back in little circles, and I felt his muscles relax. He let out a frustrated grunt, and looked to me with an expression I couldn’t read, but his face looked calm.

“Come with me, little mate.” He said softly, and took my hand. This wasn’t something I was expecting, but it was welcome.

We walked into our tent, and he zipped it closed. He took a deep breath, and sat down, and put me in his lap. “I’m nervous.” He said. “You make me crazy woman… but that wasn’t what I wanted to talk about. The last Rouge we got to talk said their Master smells of rot…. But I killed his only Satyr. This is deep magic… and I do not like it.” He paused. “What am I to do? I can’t let some deranged lunatics awaken a demigod of destruction a days run away….” He sounded worried, and I leaned my head onto his broad shoulders.

“My grandfather will be here tomorrow, most likely about at 9. I’m sure with his help you can do something.” I said putting my hand on his forearm. He laid down with a thud, and I massaged his back. He was so tense it felt like I was trying to smooth a rock from under his skin.

He hummed quietly, and he fell asleep. His face reminded me of an angel’s, because his expression was so tired and innocent. I laid down next to him, and he put an arm around my waist, pulling me to him. I gave him a soft kiss, and drifted off as best as I could. Heavy is the crown atop the head of the king…. And for him…. It weighed as much as 209 people.

-----Bryson-----

I heard my mate’s phone ring, and I answered it groggily. “I am here.” Said a deep voice that woke me and my wolf up. I put on some black jeans, my boots, and a white shirt. I saw a male wolf who looked like the spitting image of my mate, only he was at least a full head and shoulders taller than me. But his eyes were stranger than mine… they looked like flames were trapped inside. There were also no whites to them… as if they were wolf’s eyes.

I walked up to him, having a strange sensation rip through my body as I shook his hand. I was respectful, as I wasn’t stupid. I knew I could not win this if he felt disrespected, but I also still wished to hold my head as an Alpha, though, not higher than his. He smiled.

“Welcome, your highness to BeastMoon.” I said proudly. Everyone bowed their heads, as did I, and he nodded for us to rise. He was in just jeans and a blue tshirt, but his aura dominated the soul. If I were a weaker wolf, I would probably need to rest after something as simple as greeting him.

“Your pack’s heart is true.” He said looking around, seeming to scan everything with his eyes.

“….grandpa. Grandpa GRANDPA GRANDPA I MISSED YOU!” Screamed Isabelle running to the only man to ever make me bow without a fight first. She hugged him tightly, only reaching a little above his waist and he chuckled picking her up like a child.

“My smallest pup I have told you not to do that.” He said shaking his head with a smile.

“I missed you! Where’s grandma?! Did you come with Dad?” She beamed and I groaned.

“Gwyneth is home, your father did not come, and I missed you as well. Life within the castle is… boring. But here I am in the Wild. I feel the Great Mother under my feet. The Earth here is pure. Do not change it if you can….” He said looking at the sky and smelling the air. He put down his grandchild, but my wolf was beginning to get jealous. He wanted to do that to her too, but now was not the time. “Alpha Bryson we must share words.” He said sternly, and I led him to our meeting tent.

Soon it was filled with warriors, my Beta, Gamma, and men who wished to be of help. The King stood in the backmost part of the tent, and stood as if he were waiting for me to speak. He looked at me intensely, and I took two steps forward.

“Isabelle told you of their attempts, but since last night, things have escalated. The wolf who calls himself Master has gone mad. He sacrifices wolves into the Pit, regardless of pack ties.” I said firmly. The King hummed, scratching his chin.

“He is not mad, he is possessed. Grahkes has taken him over. He is close to awakening. We will leave at noon.” He said with finality. With that, we were dismissed, and he walked silently behind me, observing me, but otherwise not saying anything. I did not like this. I hated feeling like I was being watched.
