“Sister… I worry for my little mate.” Said Raakshir. That wasn’t surprising. He didn’t want me to come near, which also wasn’t surprising. He’d given me a warning glare after I took a step to close.

“I’m fine, she just isn’t quite ready yet to come out.” Said Mini.

“That does not sound very convincing.” He said quietly.

“I know but trust me, everything is going to work out. Also, can you allow Caleb to come back? The doctors need to help me soon.” She soothed. I chose not to say anything, letting them have their moment as a female nurse came in, and began to check if she was ready to start pushing.

“Luna Mini you just might have the fastest labor I’ve seen in a while…” She said almost as if she were thinking out loud to herself. “It’s only been an hour and she’s eight centimeters dilated…”

“Is that bad?” Asked Raakshir.

“No your highness, this is actually quite good as unnatural as it is…. I just expected her to be one or two centimeters dilated… not eight, almost nine. It seems the Pale Lady has blessed her highness with a swift delivery.” She said with a smile.

Mini grunted from a contraction. “I guess I won’t be in labor that long since they’re so close together now.” She smiled weakly, which kind of worried me. Shifter or not, delivering pups is dangerous…

“You sound so tired…. I will stay out a little while longer …” He mumbled.

“Just don’t attack anyone.” She said squeezing his hand a little, and I scented matches…

“I cannot promise that, but I will try.” He said kissing her hand.

[Mini I smell struck matches…. I don’t know if you can, but it seems like Caleb’s wolf can’t.] I linked, and she held her composer to hide her worry from her mate, but she looked as if she sensed it as well.

[I smell it too… I asked him already and he said he didn’t. Last night I dreamt of the Horned One, but he didn’t say anything… or do anything in it. I only saw him in our room….] She linked.

[He was likely telling you without saying anything that you were going to give birth, and that he’s here.] I said looking around, but I didn’t see him, nor feel his presence. I could only smell the struck matches, and even that was so faint you wouldn’t notice unless you sniffed for it.

“I’m Dr. Sampson, I heard you’re almost ready to deliver Luna Mini.” Said a tall thin man I’d never seen before, but he looked suspiciously like Bryson. His eyes were black, his hair was coffee and went down his back…. and he sounded like the Horned One….

“…. Your disguise is terrible.” I mumbled, which made Caleb’s wolf a little alert, but he didn’t say anything…. Everything seemed to have been stopped in time.

“… I even made up a mortal name.” He grumbled. “I thought I would be less frightening this way since she is not used to me. I tend to have that effect on mortals.” Said the Horned One, or rather ‘Dr. Sampson.’

I looked around the birthing room. Since it wasn’t the real full moon, she was the only one who was in the birthing room. Everyone else was frozen, as if they were still wax statues.

“…. Horned One… what will you do to my sister and niece?” I asked.

“Worry not. I will unfreeze the hospital, and you will refer to me as Dr. Sampson. I will deliver my wife’s work, leave, and I will protect them on their journey home when they are ready. Arviel cannot interfere, as me and my oldest work together. I would have had her birth last night if not for her terror. I didn’t want to risk her dying, as she is not mated to any of my sons like you are.” He said in his true voice. It sent a chill down my spine, even though I thought by now I would be used to it.

He snapped his fingers, and everyone came to life, not knowing that before them was a god, the King of Hell…. The one who is responsible for darkness in every realm, yet here he was in a terrible supernatural creature get up.

“Alpha Caleb, Dr. Sampson is the best doctor in the supernatural world. He was especially requested by Alpha Bryson.” Said a nurse. I raised a brow.

“Though I usually only accept payment in deals, I will have to deliver your little one personally to avoid complications for free. Hold her hand, she is ready.” He said getting her to adjust herself for birth.

“Anything for them to be safe.” Said Caleb, no longer his wolf, but no one seemed as if they realized that he’d gotten control.

“That’s why I’m here. Go on ahead and push.” He said with a smile. I didn’t understand how neither of them could tell, but I don’t think they’d seen him like I did. He also didn’t smell shifter, he just smelled generally supernatural, so the eye color didn’t alert Caleb…

I thought my brother would argue, but instead he was no longer his wolf. He held Mini’s hand letting her squeeze it while she pushed. I didn’t make too much of a fuss to come near, because I didn’t want to get in the way.

‘Dr. Sampson’ chuckled, making the lights flicker as the pup was delivered into his hands. “Look at the strange birthmark under her armpit.” He said as if it wasn’t him that put it there. It wasn’t the sign of the Horned One. This had to be the symbol of the High King. It was a scale that had a small circle for the sun on one side, and his mark on the other. Around all that was a simple ring, as if it were stamped into her skin, though she did not cry. She was asleep….

They went to clean her off while other nurses tended to Mini. They came back and put her on her mother’s chest, and she was a strange pup. I’d never seen a pup be born with silver tips so shiny, almost like they had a glow since they reflected the light back, but when she opened her eyes, they looked like mine.

Even though she was half wolf, with eyes like those, I knew she had a Charred wolf. Females in the family tended to have light themed names, and males had ones based off their fathers. I wondered how she would fair being half and with no littermates. No males would be her age when she became ready to look for her mate, and I could only assume that was part of the Horned One and Pale Lady’s plans.

“Thank you doctor.” Said Caleb, shaking his wrist.

“I can’t thank you enough….” Said Mini.

“It was a simple thing. She is 6 pounds, 9 ounces. Enjoy your baby.” He said simply. He even sounded like his usual self but without the whisper.

“She’s so still Caleb.” Said Mini.

“She’s perfectly healthy.” Said ‘Dr. Sampson.’ “I’m needed with another case. Some idiot mortal was mauled by a bear.” He said walking through the door. I don’t think they saw him disappear, as they were distracted by their silent new joy.

“I know… I think I know what to name her.” he said looking stern.

“What?” Asked Mini.

“She was born asleep and so calm…. How about Harmony?” He said having his finger held in her hand while she yawned.

“Why not? Amidst all the chaos I know is going on in the world with the sky like that… she was born this way. Welcome to the world Harmony Isabelle Charred.” Said Mini kissing her pup on the forehead.

“Wow… you didn’t have to do that.” I said as she passed the pup to me. She didn’t make a single sound, but her eyes looked innocently at me. She reminded, and smelled like my pups when they were born, and I knew even though she was small she would be a strong pup.

“I do… I don’t know how, but I know if not for you and Dr. Sampson, I might have not made it. I didn’t want to say anything…. But before you two came in I was really weak.” She said to Caleb’s surprise. They shared links, and I held the little one. I would leave them to their conversation; it wasn’t my place to interrupt them.

“My small prayer is that you have no fear, be strong little one.” I said kissing her on the forehead. Birth blessings was a small tradition of the royal family. I don’t remember the day my pups were born, but I know grandfather as well as the Horned One had blessed them…. and so did her mate.

He’d already laid claim to her, meaning that he would likely come during the first Harvest Moon that she would look for her mate. From all the texts and stories of him, he was a literal monster, giving no mercy to anyone. He ruled the entire planet under an iron fist so cruel, that there’s documentation of entire villages being obliterated to dust for something as simple as his tea being cold. I’d seen his brother Asanguis with a wingbeat defeat every council member that dared step to him. He wasn’t even his full strength either….

The only thing that stopped him was my accidental distraction, and my grandfather getting a magic sword at the right moment. Had he not, I wouldn’t be surprised if he would have melted the castle with his corrosive venom.

He was called the Tyrant King for a reason. He’d already conquered the world, and everyone who knew of his existence feared his return. None could stop him, and she would have to likely tame him. It wasn’t impossible, but I knew that would be a daunting task.
