The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 124
Isabelle
Kat squealed like a newborn wolf when I sped down the road and swerved into the parking lot of the hospital. I already knew that she wouldn’t be at the packhouse. If her water broke, she’d have the pup early, and I could bet money the Lady did that. I didn’t know why, but it didn’t matter. I ran out the car and down the hall to the birthing section of the hospital, which was empty except for Mini.
Caleb paced like a caged animal, which wasn’t surprising, but what did was Bryson. His eyes were black, and between his horns was a black flame about as big as a candle’s…. that was new. I didn’t know how to feel about it, but I put my hands on his, and he snaped out of his deep thought.
“Where are the pups?” I asked, and he grunted. They slept at his feet on a blanket, snoring softly. I felt a little silly not noticing them when I came in… but I was wracked with worry.
“They’re tired.” He chuckled. “Ven wants me to wake them up, but I think it’d be best if they slept for a little while longer. If I wake them now, I’ll have extra eyes and hands to wrangle them now.”
“Ven’s right though.” I said petting them one by one, and they made soft happy noises. My pups were blessed by the Lord of Night… and I wondered would that be the case for my niece. I also worried for her being born early… I hoped this wasn’t too much on her and her mother.
“I wonder will my little girl be born the wolf… or without one completely.” He said slowly running his hands over his face and through his hair. “I don’t even know if we’re ready for all this. I was hoping to wait a few hundred years.”
“You’ll be a fine father Caleb. However she’s born doesn’t matter either.” I smiled, patting his back. He sighed.
“You say that already a year and a half into being a mother.” He complained. “They won’t even let me in there.”
“Because your eyes are your wolf’s.” I rubbed his back in little circles.
“Bryson being here is a little calming… but holy shit Izzy I thought I had a few more weeks. She’s going to be so small.”
“That’s fine.” I hugged my brother, letting him calm down so he could be with his mate. As he was, they figured he’d shift in the birthing room. They weren’t wrong. He smelled like he’d already shifted, though I know that was from him being so stressed. He was worried about his mate, his pup, and all the stuff that comes after.
“I think I’m ready now.” He said standing. He rolled his shoulders, and went inside. I chose to let him be. It was there moment, but I peeped in the window to be nosy. He held her hand and they talked. It wasn’t time to push yet, and they’d given her something for pain.
“Isabelle, let them be.” Said Bryson with a gentleness to his voice. “He worries for his mate just as I did for you…”
“He’s so worried though…. I said looking down a bit, but he put a finger under my chin. His touch felt as the Horned One’s… though oddly enough I damn near craved his embrace. It reassured me, and I leaned into him for his burly arms to wrap around me.
“I know, but I came in case he did shift and acts irrational. It took everything I had not to the day you had the pups.” He said kissing me on the forehead. “But you were in trouble. I don’t know how to explain it other than I simply know she will be fine.”
“And you handled it well… I think. I don’t really remember that night that well.” I said thinking out loud.
“What matters is that you’re here and so are our little ones.” He smiled… but the lighting in the room changed behind us, getting my attention. There was a soft red glow from the sun in the hospital. It suddenly it got dark… so dark in fact that it didn’t look like morning anymore…
“Look…” I said peering outside, now worried for Mini. The full moon was red as it rose… even though it was actually daytime, only 8:45am. Also that wasn’t supposed to happen for another few weeks…but what surprised me more was the sun. It was pitch black and twice its usual size. There wasn’t a lunar or solar eclipse scheduled…. And this was the first time I’d ever actually seen something like this. They were both out at the same time, though the sun looked as if it shed no light. The dark crimson sky seemed to make the few clouds become wispy as they disappeared. It was as red as blood, tinging everything below it outside with its eerie color…
“….. this doesn’t feel right.” Said Bryson. His eyes became darker, though not quite true black. It was as if he and Ven’s eye color mixed. His horns looked a tad sharper, and a black flame between them flickered as a candle. There was a distinct red stone now with the Horned One’s mark inside the black flame that now looked almost like a crown but not quite, as it was a black ring between his spiraled horns… and with that change, his scent did too even more so than earlier…. He didn’t smell wolf at all, but it wasn’t Old One… it was something more. Whatever was happening outside was making him change.
“How so?” I asked. No one else was in the birthing room, as the moon was supposed to be only half... Bryson turned out ok, but he had almost 300 years to figure himself out….
“On red moons Ven is the dominant part of me, but I feel different. I feel stronger….” He said standing up and going to the window. “Also they don’t last that long…. The sunset was bright crimson yesterday now that I think of it… now the rising, wrong phased moon. And the sky too. I don’t know what this is….This isn’t a blood moon…. This is a blood sky and I have no idea what that means.” He mumbled.
“It means that that pup really is the Tyrant King’s mate…” I mumbled with him. “We should summon the Horned One.”
“No.” He said firmly. “If anything happens, we will, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea. As far as we know this could be his or my brother’s doing.” He said getting up and picking up the pups. They were still sleepy, and likely would go back to bed after being picked up. “I should have asked Beta or Gamma to watch the little ones, but I don’t want them coming out in this light. I have no idea if it does anything or not.”
“Well…. You’re You, so I’m thinking maybe not? But at the same time, you look and smell completely different… Maybe link everyone that they should stay indoors?” I asked myself more than anything.
“I will, and one of us should go check on her progress. Caleb may trust me but I am still a male. I’ll watch the pups. I’m sure Caleb would have a fit if I went in.” He kissed me on the forehead. “I go them, so they won’t follow you.”
“Good thinking, but first I think I should call my sister.” I stood on tiptoe to kiss him back, and I was about to call her, but my phone rang. When I picked up, Heidi was on the other line.
“Isabelle has Harmony given birth yet?” She asked. She sounded worried.
“No, but I was just about to go in the birthing room, and maybe ask a nurse too.” I said causally, but a silent worry creeped up for Mini.
“I don’t want her to die, but I know none of my spells will help.” she said quietly.
“Why’s that? You’re the strongest magic caster I know besides the royal families….” I said, though she was silent a long time.
“The Horned One has blocked all magic.” She said quietly.
“What? He can Do That?” I asked and it was quiet a while.
“No caster in any part of the planet has been able to cast since the sky became red. Anything that uses magic like brooms won’t work. I’d planned on making a summoning circle and going to see Mini, but I got nothing. I even called the Witch Queen, and she’d told me of the utter chaos that she has in her court.”
“Holy shit…. So if we do need you….” I trailed off.
“If you need me, I am no more help than a regular wolf. All we can do is make her comfortable, and use modern technology to make sure her birthing is successful, but don’t tell Mini any of this. We don’t need anyone to worry. That also includes Alpha Bryson…. We don’t know what his true powers are, and I don’t want them activating since Hell’s Sky is literally summoned on earth right now.” She said quietly.
“Is that really what this is?!” I whisper yelled.
“No, but in my book, that’s what it’s called because it’s dark red. No one knows its cause, but it is linked to the Tyrant King. That much we Do know… so someone born today is likely his mate, but I can’t speculate Who.” She said knowing full well it was our niece, but she was likely around the wrong company to say.
“Then I’ll go check on her, and if anything happens, I’ll call.” I said with a small smile.
“Since all planes are grounded, I’ll come as soon as I can. Be safe, and be as supportive as you can for all of us.” She said as if she were smiling.
“Alright.” I said hanging up.
“I didn’t think the sky would impact so much.” Said Bryson. “Like I said go, and I’ll watch the pups. She might need the support.” He said as I went inside after a small kiss. They bowed to me as I came in with swift nods, and I went to check on Mini. She looked kind of tired… but otherwise she gave me a smile.
