The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 136
Venerable
“We should cancel.” Said Kaiden, and I eyed him and his dusty ass wolf.
It was bad enough I was in these tight clothes at my true height in this body. Now I had to be ‘nice’ to one beneath me.
“No.” I said with crossed arms.
“…. Ven, are you sure-” I cut my sweet little mate off.
“I can light the fire. The same thing that always happens will, and it will be of no significance.” I said firmly. I felt bad that Glitter did not like my growls, but it was not meant for her.
They hugged me.
“I don’t want you overdoing it.” She said rubbing her face into my chest.
“I will be Fine little mate. I understand this form enough. You should know that.” I grinned. Isabelle turned red and Rakaam growled at me. “The last I checked; you were in My packhouse.” I growled back.
“You will respect my pup.” He challenged.
“I do not understand what you mean.” I challenged back.
“Both of you Stop It.” Snarled the King, and I chose to back down as much as I hated it. I was a true equal to him, meaning we would either both die, or one of us would have to submit… but the weight of my mate’s tears would burden my heart. For that reason, I would not attack these males unless they clawed me first. I was being the bigger wolf.
“I heard that you little shit.” He said with his head high.
“I do not care. This gets us nowhere.” I said a little frustrated.
“It’s 2:20. The rides are going, and people are out.” Said Eclipse, the only other wolf in here with sense besides Isabelle. I also heard that my pups were awake. They did not need to see violence. I did not want that for them.
“I think it’s their pack.” Said the she wolf, Shelly. “He may be only the wolf right now, but he should be able to handle the bonfire.”
“It is my right, as these are My lands, and you are all visitors. It is My Job to ask for blessings.” I said firmly.
That they could not argue with, as I was right. The pitter patter of many paws disrupted our conversation though.
[Papa!] Called Grace, who ran to me, and play bowed. She also jumped on her brothers, who all ran in circles waiting for me to respond, but they really didn’t give me the chance. They ran in and out the door, doing little spins. They yipped playfully, nipping my shoe, then darting off.
[Little ones, father cannot play.] I said patting her little head.
“I can.” Said the Queen, who gladly went outside the room and shifted, running out the door with them. I could see them from the office window that they ran around the house in a large circle, full of energy this afternoon.
She has no living pups. They are all dead. I did not mind her playing with mine, because she lives in a place of old stuffy men.
“Well… that’s settled then.” Said my mate happily. “Let’s go and have a good time.” She smiled.
“We will take the pups, and meet you at the fair.” Said the King with a soft, sad smile. He had heard me, but it was not my intention to cause remembrance of pups lost… but it could not be helped.
That had to hurt. They lost so many.
“I would like that.” I said with a firm nod, and we both snorted as wolves do.
They left, leaving us in the room, as I still needed a shirt.
We finally had some place to be private, and I would apologize to my little mate. “I do not disrespect you do I little mate?” I asked.
“It was embarrassing, and dad’s wolf didn’t like it.” She admitted quietly. So the answer was yes, but she was too polite to tell me outright.
“Forgive me.” I told her firmly, hesitating to touch her like I wanted… I did not want to hurt her. The metal of the ice box door, the stone and plastic of the bathroom could be replaced… but I would not forgive myself if my true strength harmed her in any way.
I let her embrace me, and I slowly wrapped my arms around her waist, always checking for any discomfort on her part. I was the King of the Forest, and All who dwelled within it… but that meant nothing if I could not have her safely in my arms….
Without Bryson, there was no man. The man is needed for softness… In the spirit world, None could best me, but here in flesh, Bryson was the limiter of this body. Even at his angriest, He would never use his full power until I stepped in. It made me wish he was here, if only for this moment.
“You’re fine Ven, let’s go to the festival.” She offered, slowly letting go. We went downstairs, and the few who were here bowed as they saw me. Above my head was my flaming, floating crown, and I was out. Wolves thought I was angry, but I was fine. None but my mate and her family could understand me it seemed.
I followed, and outside the packhouse I wanted to shift. “Little mate, would you like to run with me?" I offered.
“Sure.” She said with a smile, thinking it funny. The humor escaped me, as I had no idea why she was giggling as she undressed me, but other she wolves joined her. “Let me help take off your clothes though.”
“Alright.” I said confused by her smile, but glad that she was happy. I do not care about clothes; they are just cloth, but her stray thought told me that she wanted to save my clothing to remain decent when we changed back to flesh.
I shifted when she was done, about the same size as Ashital, though in the spirit world I was larger than the one called Grendal. Mother told me I would have to grow older to reach my true height here.
My mate looked shy, wanting to ask me to let her atop my back, but I would let her. It was something she’d always wanted. Up until this point, I waited for her to ask, but I knew she wouldn’t so I would offer.
I bowed my head to my Luna. She was confused at first. Wolf riding was not taboo, but it was not Done. It was disrespectful unless mates are with pup or something along those lines. We are not horses.
[Get on.] I offered, and she hopped on, riding my shoulders, but having a hard time getting a good grip on my horns.
“Giddy Up!” She bounced happily, getting a few chuckles out of the pack that heard, and I went a slow trot. I chose not to acknowledge her cheerful nonsense.
[Behave.] I said shaking my head. [….and do not tell this to Bryson.]
“Why not?” She asked sweetly, though I could hear the amusement.
[Because I was the one who always said no.] I admitted.
“…. I KNEW it.” She bounced, nearly falling off. That was why I did not go full speed.
[Be careful little mate or I will put you down.] I warned.
“No!” She whined. “I want everyone to see you!” She beamed.
I nodded, and sighed out my nose. We were here anyway. I would bring comfort to the wolves of my pack, as the only one who could step to me now would have to be of King’s strength.
Wolves were impressed, especially when Ashital took off his clothes to shift. We circled each other, though I would never fight so close to my mate. Indeed to my suspicion, we were the same size, but I would not provoke the old, proud elder.
/You look good./ he linked me privately. /It makes me Proud to see my blood mated to a worthy male./
/One day, we may yet spar old wolf./ I linked.
/I would rather not. The last your blood touched the earth, it awakened your brothers./ he said looking off into the distance.
I hummed, letting my sweet Isabelle off my back so we could shift and shake wrists. His grip was firm, though it was not meant to be ill intentioned. It was how he was.
He knew battle beyond my years…. And I had seen through Bryson’s eyes the wake of destruction in the King’s castle. My brothers were true threats to the very fabric of this world, but by blood they thought us pack, and that was good enough for me.
“I want to ride rides with you!” Beamed my little mate, who smelled of flowers always.
“Alright.” I said walking behind her as she nearly ran to the roller coasters. For us to be born meant for only the earth, almost all the rides defied logic. To be in the air as birds was its own magic that the mortals took for granted.
We did not wait in line, but I would not have minded. I listened to the carnival worker, thankful that the seats for supernatural creatures were larger for us, otherwise I would not fit being almost 7 feet tall in this form.
We went up high, then we went Down. I did not like it, but it could not be denied that the wind in my hair as it was loose was Amazing. We went faster than I could run, twisting and turning with the nimbleness of a unicorn, likely the only creature that could match this speed on the ground.
“I want to go on the Twirl N’ Whirl.” She bounced, grabbing my hand, taking me to a large wheel.
“This should not be so bad. The first one was fun.” I said getting in. I stood in this one, and when one turned on, we went in into the air, rotating around in different directions While Spinning.
The Spinning One was worse.
It was Much Worse.
I questioned Why I Agreed to This, and when I got off, I was thankful that I had not eaten anything yet, as I wretched dryly when my feet touched solid ground.
She laughed at me, and I glared at her. She had done this on purpose.
“I’m sorry.” She sang as she hugged me.
“Be thankful you are very cute little mate.” I said pulling her close, feeling my little pups’ paws on my legs. I gave her a small peck on the forehead, and acknowledged my small ones. I bent to their eye level as best as I could, giving them each a small pat on the head.
[Papa they have meat!] Said Tyson, who had a whole turkey leg, wagging his tail. They each had one of their own, and though it was too much food for them, tonight was a celebration.
[I see that. Do not eat too much.] I told them, and Grace did a little spin.
“Do not mind my spoiling them too much.” Said Falcon. She too was out, though she was not a Beast. She was a Soul Mender… probably the rarest moon-blessing known, as she is the only one. Mother told me of that when I saw others who held black eyes, but were not red eyed beasts.
“I expect nothing less Falcon.” I said shaking my head. This would likely be all I saw of them until they went home, and I did not mind sharing them a little bit if it meant she was happy. They did not see it, but as the wolf, I knew she was always sad.
The only soul a Soul Mender cannot mend is themselves.
She took them with Ashital, and I stayed with my mate. I let her ride the next ride alone while on the Ground, this time.
“Alpha I have a report.” Said the Shadow Warrior Obsidian, appearing from nowhere.
“Speak.”
“I found out some things.” He stated, handing me a folder.
“Bring Ashital here. I am sure he wishes to know about what his court does as well.”
“Of course sir.” He said fetching him and coming back while my mate found her mother waiting at another ride nearby, though Kaiden did not ride either.
“What have you learned?” Asked the King.
“To put it simply, treason my lords.” He bowed, talking lowly, and we went to a more private spot to let him continue. “In those folders are pictures and files of everything we found. Jang came willingly and is in holding cell 15.”
“Let us go and see what he has done from his own mouth then.” I commanded.
