The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 74
Isabelle
“Dad…. He’s not even two months old!” I chastised, and he huffed, putting him down and putting on pants.
“Kaiden, it’s really early….” Mom said holding her head, the sun was just rising, but as a Luna… I was used to getting up early. I would log in in a little bit. He chuckled, and walked over to kiss mom on the forehead.
“Sorry babygirl.” He snickered, but the pups were still ready for round two. They nipped at dad, though they had no teeth.
They wiggled in dad’s office, scooting across the floor with reckless abandon, and I played on the floor letting them distract me with their cuteness. My babies were so adorable…. I smelled Zack for some reason. Weird.
“Knock knock.” He said with a small smile, holding his sleeping pup and Adam stood next to his mother, and I got up, and hugged them all. It felt nice to see pack, though I know it was to check on me.
“What do we owe the pleasure?” Said dad, getting up to shake their wrists, and his smile faded a bit.
“We’ve come to check on Luna… as well as make preparations to bury Alpha…. possibly here since Luna will be here a while.” He said quietly, and I stood strong. I would not burst into tears…. I would not show weakness…
“I don’t think he should rest here… after all, he was an Alpha. I would assume that he would want to be buried in his home territory.” Said dad.
“…. He loved the wild…” I said looking away from everyone. “He should be buried as his wolf in BeastMoon.” I told everyone, but they looked at me strangely.
“He would have had to die as a wolf to be buried as one, his body’s been on ice too long.” Said dad, and I nodded quietly.
“Then let’s bury him in the clearing where we first made camp, and became a pack. He would like that.” I shed a tear, but I wiped it away. I didn’t want to be selfish. I would only visit his grave every day waiting at it for him to pop out the ground….
“That sounds lovely Luna.” He looked like he wanted to hug me, but chose not to. Gabby did for him. It wasn’t professional. I wouldn’t have minded, but it was his choice.
I hugged her back, and we got chairs in dad’s office to organize this. There would be a service next week, and I would say a small eulogy. He was never one for big and flashy, so I made sure to order living plants rather than dead ones… I would cultivate that area as a memorial for him, and maybe others could visit to show respect. I would also have guards stationed there, as he had more enemies than friends in this world.
My wolf wined in my head again, thinking of how there was a hole in his chest big enough to fit a large grapefruit…. he was gone. I would have to accept it. “Is there anything else that needs to be done?” I asked and he nodded.
“There’s a council meeting tomorrow, as there are wolves who wish to take what was his, dividing it up, but your father will go with me to sort this out.” He said getting a glare from my dad.
“I want to go too.” I said with a small frown.
“Who will watch the pups? They’re getting more active.” Dad retorted, and I shook my head.
“I will go, it is my right, and I need to see Bryson…. I must do this thing. If they see weakness…” I said quietly, but mom finished.
“She’s right. If they don’t see a reason to wait a few years, they will take until there is nothing left.” Said my mom, and the men were quiet.
“I just don’t like this… pups and women at an Alpha meeting…” Said Zack shaking his head. Dad crossed his arms and snarled, but I put my hand on his arm, letting the little ones crawl over my feet.
“I know what you mean Zack, they will want to dismiss me entirely.” I said shaking my head, but dad put a hand on my shoulder, giving it a small squeeze.
“Right now, they’re like buzzards thinking they found free land.” Said my Beta, and his son began to play with my pups, they were trying to get under my dad’s desk to mess with his cords.
“Izzy you have your family. We will come with you.” He looked like he linked someone, and Uncle Connor came in the room. It was one of the rare times I saw him upset, but Adam seemed to be really impressed. He thought my family was cool, but Libby looked alert.
“Awe little one, don’t be scared of my brother, I swear he’s probably the biggest pup in this room.” Dad told her, and she hid her face in her father’s shoulder. They all chuckled a bit.
Really? She linked
“Really. Said dad. She relaxed a bit on seeing me, and she looked around the room in curiosity.
He let her down, now that she was awake, and she played with my pups and her brother while we organized how we would go about making all this work. It was a shit move to pull an Alpha meeting as soon as they heard he was gone, but I didn’t understand it…. why did they have to be so damn power hungry?
My brother groggily stumbled into the room, though it was still early. “Morning everyone.” He said with a yawn, and Adam looked at dad, my uncle, and my brother with a frown.
“I think all of you need to wear name-tags.” He complained, and his father glared at him.
“Wait until you see grandfather and my cousin with all of us in the same room.” Chuckled my brother, who went to my dad’s coffee maker, and made himself and his mate some. She looked more chipper than him, but Caleb was never a morning person.
“You must have slept like a rock.” Said dad, slapping him on the back hard enough to take the air out his lungs, he growled.
“I did. I had… strange dreams.” He glared at me, and my eyes grew wide. I ran to him and shook his shoulders. They wouldn’t move though.
“NO! Do NOT tell me that you saw that!” I screamed and his eyes were red.
“I know it isn’t your fault, but I want to throw you out the window.” He snarled, and I hugged him. He picked me up from under my armpits and carried me to mom’s desk, and gave me to her by sitting me on the table. “Begone pervert.” He mumbled, and I turned beet red.
“Oh my Lady! Ah! Ew! I’m Sorry!” I screamed, but I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Don’t touch me with those dirty hands, you depraved little wolf.” He growled, but he was joking, they didn’t know it though.
“What are you two talking about?” Said my uncle with a little concern for our mental health.
“She dreamed so loud I saw them too.” There was silence.
“That’s not possible.” Said Zack but I shook my head.
“No, that’s why we had separate rooms growing up. We would share dreams. Caleb I swear I’m so sorry.” I told him, and he looked like he didn’t buy it, but I wouldn’t force it.
“Mmhmm.” He said sipping his coffee about to leave, and Mini shook her head.
“Sorry Caleb! I didn’t know you would see! I would have, I don’t know, tired to wake up?” I said with a small frown.
“It’s ok sis, this is the first time I’ve seen you smile since you got here.” He said shaking his head slightly and I felt so ashamed! But it wasn’t like I meant to!
“Uh, anyway… I will go downstairs with Beta Connor, and be out your hair.” Said Zack, leaving with my uncle.
I was a little conflicted on where I would go or what I would do since so much wasn’t done… but I would start with the hardest thing: Making the phone calls to get my mate buried.
It was still hard to believe, but I had to think of my children and the pack. They wouldn’t make it without leadership. I could be standing Alpha with him dead, but that would mean that I would be the one challenged. I could probably get rid of the little weakling riffraff, but I would have to worry about others….
Like Alpha Daniel. He was probably big as my uncle. I couldn’t take someone like him, but he didn’t live anywhere near us, he lived all the way over at the Grandia border. There would be no reason he would want my pack, as he would have to drive hours to manage any of this. But that would not mean he would not try, retorted Glitter. I had no choice but t acknowledge her and keep moving right now…
I called and got the florist, headstone maker, and my sister to enchant some seeds that the flowers would generate light at night. It was a common request, and they would grow even in the winter, relying on the magic they create and store in their bulbs…. And I also made sure Warrior Commander Paul organized patrols. I had talked about it, but the more I did everything the more real it became. I couldn’t deny it… but I would have to make my peace with it.
I felt cooped up in my makeshift office, though my brother’s old room was already being organized into one for me, since he was essentially the Alpha of Crimson. I had been also given a break from the pups to do this, though they were only the next room over, and I knew that there was nothing that they needed with me so close… but I still was selfish. I still wanted to have them with me, since they were all I had left.
I had everything scheduled, even the spot had been picked and dug out already… I just needed to handle some idiots before I said goodbye.
