“Why are you all here?” Asked a shirtless Ven, holding my sleeping pups and set them on the couch. If they woke up, there were already places and things for them to get into. I hugged Mini, and she hugged me back smelling of worry.

“Phillip called me first. We figured to be supportive.” Said dad, but I still wanted to run upstairs and not come back out. My brother looked like he was debating on messing with me, but chose not too for some reason…. Not that I was complaining.

“We also bought birthday gifts. Originally, I was going to give them this during the Luna Fest, but they can enjoy it now.” They didn’t bring food this time, but they did bring three big, unwrapped boxes. Honestly, I think Ven and myself were both happy for that since knowing them they would try to eat said paper.

“No one’s told Grandfather yet, but I imagine he’s going to be upset. It’s disruption to his court and now he will look for another third.” He mumbled.

“But he deserved worse.” I growled a little at dad, and he growled back.

“You killed his Gamma without provocation Isabelle. Regardless of his past he should have been let go. Now you’re involved with the High Court, and I don’t know what he’s going to rule. We can’t stop him.”

“I can try.” Growled Ven. He stood there with his black eyes fixated on dad, but I would stop him from trying to fight him. I hugged my mate, who grumbled softly.

“You will give me Bryson and stop it.” I said quietly. “I’m not going anywhere.”

“He agrees with me.” He complained. There was another reason I wanted him back. Ven’s alertness and temper were much harder to soothe. I wasn’t sure, but I figured he really would start a fight if provoked a little more.

“Ven your mate’s right. As it is, you smell like you’re a breath away from losing your marbles.” Grumbled dad, and Ven stood there a moment.

“Kaiden, I am a breath away from protecting what is mine. I do not like all this uncertainty… but for her sake and the pups I will recede a moment.” He muttered with a small growl. His eyes became a deep red, and Bryson looked upset, but much calmer.

“Let’s talk more in private.” Said dad, leaving with my mate, and mom chose to stay downstairs with me, my brother, aunt, and my uncles.

“I don’t know how you deal with him.” said Aunt Shelly, but I shook my head.

“He’s just worried.” I smiled, but she didn’t return it. I wondered what her deal was, as she never seemed to like my mate. I knew he’d fought my family before, but I don’t think he’d done anything to her in particular…? But she was a Gamma… so it was a possibility.

Uncle Eric picked up Grace, who hummed lightly in her sleep. “She’s precious.” He giggled.

“It’s my turn next.” Complained my uncle, though he got Kaizen. Mom got Tyson, petting him between the horns. She hugged him close, growling softly, and gave him little kisses.

They woke up from being held, wanting to be put down to play. It didn’t take long for my uncles to find a ball to roll across the room. It gave my mom a chance to speak with me proper.

“Isabelle, I know this is allot on you… are you ok?” She asked.

“I’m fine. I’m not worried about any of this, because I know it’ll blow over.” I felt bad lying through my teeth to her, but I knew she wasn’t able to do anything about this. She was just a sweet wolf concerned for her pup. Mom was only a princess in title… I was one by blood. More was expected of me and there would be consequences for this.

“Izzy you’re my pup; just because I can’t read your mind like your father doesn’t mean I don’t know when you’re lying…. But thank you for trying to save my feelings.” She hugged me, and I hugged her back.

“I know it’ll work out… but I am worried.” I said a little more honestly. “If Phillip told dad, I know he had to have called grandfather too. It wouldn’t make sense not too.”

“I don’t think he did, or else someone from the council would have called you.” She mumbled.

“I think you should leave and come home with us sis. I’ll hide you if necessary.” Said Caleb, but I immediately shook my head.

“If I run off, even with the pups, what about Bryson? He wasn’t even the one who did it, it wouldn’t be right to have him punished for my sake.” I growled.

He snarled back at me. “And I will not see my big sister beheaded because of her stubbornness. He cannot die; at best all they could do was imprison him. I know my thinking is harsh, but you, my niece and nephews are my priority.” He grumbled.

“Isabelle, Caleb isn’t trying to start a fight… it’s something we discussed on the way here.” Said Mini.

“But you’d just leave him?!” I stood, hearing heavy steps down the stairs.

“I would not want to but If that becomes a choice, I would do it. He is more than strong enough to handle himself. No one can make him do anything he doesn’t want.” He may have been right, but I would not hear any of it.

“What’s all this?” Growled Bryson.

“He told me to leave with them! And JUST LEAVE you here.” I growled, lit up with my wolf, but Bryson’s snarl submitted me.

“And I would let him. I don’t care about myself as much as I want you and the pups safe… I thought you knew that by now.” He came down the stairs and kneeled to hug me. “I wouldn’t let anyone hurt you.” He mumbled.

“I won’t stand for this.” I hissed, ignoring my phone ring, but my mate didn’t.

We all crowded around it… it was the King… how he knew already... I had no idea… but he knew. He never called unless it was something important.

“My flesh and blood… you disgrace me.” He growled. “You leave me without a Third, though he was not a very good one…”

“Grandfather I do not regret what I have done. I wish to plead guilty on the condition that my mate and pups are left out of this.” I said having the phone be taken out of reach.

“Isabelle No!” Growled Bryson.… it wasn’t right that he always must be placed in harm’s way.

“Then there is no trial… Very well. I will call again via Zoomie Chat with a ruling. Be ready to pack your things.” He said ominously hanging up.

“Isabelle that was reckless!” Screamed my mate at the top of his lungs.

“It was necessary! I was the one who landed the killing blow. If I had not said what I did, you would be an accessory, and where would that leave the pups?! Everyone Already knows I did it! Evidence isn’t needed in the High Court, as he’s the one who rules.” I snarled at him, and he pulled his horns. The Mark of the Horned One showed up around his belly button, disappearing as soon as it came.

So did that smell of matches…

“Lady above I’ve never been so frustrated with you wildflower. Why didn’t you just trust me…?” He asked defeated.

“Because all you’ve done is for me… but I don’t want you to be punished because of me too.” I said quietly. “Plus… I know I won’t be beheaded for killing Brutus. Only a fool would make more bloodshed for a flea-bitten piece of trash like him….”

“Be that as it may, we must prepare the office, get the pups to bed early, and arrange for war just in case. I’m not letting you leave this pack. You aren’t going to be punished. I don’t care what his ruling is.” He snorted hot steam.

“Bryson your scent is worrisome.” Said dad. “It reminds me of an incident that befell me a while ago…” He mumbled.

“I noticed it too. I smell like my father, though I am not his champion, so I don’t know why now.” He grumbled.

“You’re stressed.” Said mom. “Not only that, but you’re still his son. It would make sense that you’d smell like him as you get stronger.” She said holding both our hands. “Why not instead of plan for war… you plan to negotiate peace.” She suggested. Bryson looked at her with pursed lips.

“Miss Eclipse I honestly don’t know How to make peace.” He said firmly. “It’s almost as foreign as being called Alpha…. but that may be the better idea. Dragging pack into this may make things worse….”

“We’ll help.” Said dad, taking my pups from everyone so they could play on the floor. Bryson approved.

We didn’t have much time, but dad and Bryson went back upstairs to clean the office for the Zoomie call, while I arranged for the worst. I wouldn’t run… and I’d seen the Royal Guard… they were each strong enough to be an Alpha in their own right, so fighting would be out the question…. Instead, I prepped a car to surrender. He didn’t know, he was too busy probably organizing the Warriors anyway, but I wouldn’t let it come to that. We thought it best not to tell him….

I hated hiding it from him, but now I had to change. I was in pajamas… no one would approve me being so casual. I chose a blue pull over dress and kept my hair up in a braid. It was still slightly wet, and I didn’t want it on me… or the pups to play with it.

They went in the basket no problem, and I massaged their horns until they went to sleep. It was 11:45 by the time we finished rushing to get everything done, and I hoped to the Lady above that this would work out. No one knew what he would rule being in such a sour mood….
