The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 49
Isabelle
I clawed the wall and screamed as loud as I could. I tried to keep rumors and suspicions like that away from his ears, because I know my mate. He’s changed, but he can only change so much. I bet his heart was broken. My mate would never trust me again… and there was no telling what he would do to Zack if Ven took over completely. I could feel his bloodlust and rage, it was all he could do was to stand there….
“Isabelle unlock the door.” He said with a small growl, and Glitter lost it. I had to fight her not to shift so she could run away. She was convinced he’d changed his mind, and I was convinced by his tone that he was pissed but calmed down.
The door exploded off the hinges with one pound of his fist, and I couldn’t help but back away from him. His eyes were black and filled with hurt and anger. I bumped into the bed, and I couldn’t submit. I was completely frozen. I’d seen my mom do this before once. It’s a level of fear that cannot be undone, because my wolf’s feelings had won. I was trapped in this room with an angry male, an Alpha no less, but he was my mate. He would not hurt me. I hated myself for it, but I blocked out Glitter for a moment, so that I could move again, and speak with Bryson.
He put the door back up as best as he could, and he sat next to me on the bed. “You don’t have to be scared of me.” He said with almost no emotion to his voice. He too was fighting his wolf.
“You scare Glitter, Bryson. She thinks you’re going to hurt me, but I know you won’t.” I said, leaning onto his arm. My body was shaking but my mind was calm.
He laughed a sinister laugh that made my hair stand up. “No, I wouldn’t. The goddess only gives but one mate. And I do believe you, but my wolf wants blood.” He said casually, and I grunted in frustration.
“Do you know what happened? He was getting back from a hunt, and I was finishing up my bath.” He snarled, but I slapped his chest. “Listen!” I yelled at him, but I couldn’t feel my wolf anymore… shit. “Bryson this is hard to do as it is. He was facing the forest. He saw nothing. We walked back to camp together because he thought I was going to leave the territory to look for you…. and he wasn’t wrong… I was trying to erase my scent.” I said with shaking hands but a calm voice. I was having a contradiction in my soul, because how can you yearn for someone you fear?
He held me gently and laid me on the bed, and covered me with a warm blanket. “That’s the same story Beta linked me nearly word for word.” He said with a small frwon. He kissed me on the forehead, and it settled my wolf a bit. She was as instinctual as Ven, though hers was one of viciousness to our enemies, and submission to Alpha.
“Why didn’t he tell you?” I asked… I knew what he was going to say.
“He’s gone to PineMoon’s packhouse with his mate. They will live there on the second floor for a moment.” He said calmly, and I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding.
He got under the covers with me, and held onto me, smelling my mark. There was a large crisis averted … “I’m proud of you.” I mumbled. “To be a Child of Rage, your head is level.” I said smelling him. He always smelled angry, and tonight his scent was nothing else… but he didn’t act on it.
“I have had lots of practice with a certain little flower who does not understand no.” He chuckled, holding my back to his chest.
I got up to my mate not there, but I could hear him. The sun had just rose, and he was in his office. I got up, and took a shower. I put on a pull over dress that was supposed to go to my ankles, but instead, it went almost to my knees because of my bump. I walked to our office and sat down in my chair. Bryson said nothing, but he looked confused and frustrated.
“Mind if I help?” I asked. He looked as If he didn’t know that I had come in, and I walked over to him. I grunted a small snarl… my enemy… Excell spreadsheets. I hated this type of file, because it always had the entire packs’ worth of data on it, and I always had a hard time deciphering everything.
“Delta?” He asked.
“Delta.” I said with a nod. He emailed them to him. He really had learned the computer well.
“I’m taking a break.” He said stretching and yawning. His fangs were razor sharp… and I took the opportunity to poke them. I ruined his yawn, and he looked at me surprised. This was something Caleb did to me if I yawned around him, that or poke me in the armpit while I stretched. It was nothing more than a tease, but I was surprised Glitter didn’t have a comment.
I kissed his nose, and it settled him, but he was still confused. “I’m coming with you.” I said putting my head on his chest. My wolf was nowhere to be seen, but it was to be expected. I had locked her out before going to sleep, she was hiding, but stuck in the mental state she was left in, because she didn’t know that everything was fine…
“Isabelle you smell different.” He said suddenly while carrying me down the stairs.
“How so?” I asked.
“You smell… human.” His eyes flashed black, and I looked again for my wolf. She was not there.
“My Lady Moon what have I done?” I whisper yelled to myself, and Bryson looked concerned.
“What did you do?” He asked, kissing me on the forehead.
“I blocked out Glitter when you burst the door down because she was freaking out so much.” I almost screamed. “She’s okay right?!” I asked looking into his now black eyes.
“Little mate she is hiding, I will bring her out.” Said Ven.
I was hit with a shockwave of fear and betrayal. My wolf was in a small ball, and this was bad, as she was pregnant with me…. it could hurt the wolves that would be inside my pups. I zoned out of wherever Bryson took me as he carried me, and I tried touching Glitter, only to be bitten on the hand. She snarled fearfully, and my hand bled a little in my mind and on my flesh….
I had broken the law and trust of my wolf…. I deserved this, as she was left afraid and uncounseled for hours… I tried touching her again, but this time she only growled. I patted her fur, and she whined in my head. I hated the feeling it was making me experience. She was sharing what she felt and I was sharing that it was ok. We were completely out of sync with each other, and it was mostly my fault.
No. it was mine too, because I did not trust you. We are half, and I should have trusted your words… and our strong mate.
I gave her a small smile, and let her rest her head on my lap. This was giving me a headache… because I had never worked with her for so long before. But there was also never a reason.
I heard soft growls and sniffs. I opened my eyes to see that Bryson had laid me down in the backyard, and circled around me that I could stay warm. I patted his soft fur, and Glitter timidly stood up. I couldn’t shift, but we could share links. He looked me in the eyes with his black orbs, and I stared into the abyss. He said nothing, nor linked anything. We were in a moment all our own, and it was an understanding that only could be had with one’s mate.
He loved me. He didn’t know how to say it in words, so he showed me in wolf. everything he did was in a claiming way. His presence was one of declaring to the pack that I was his, and he was my mate. It touched my heart. He rubbed his snout against my chest, exposing his neck to me, and I patted it. He shifted back and kissed me tenderly, holding onto my waist. He took a firm hold of me, like I would escape, and kissed me again, deeper and with more fire.
His tongue danced on mine, and it was hard to keep up with his dominant, possessive hunger. We broke for air, and he put my head on his chest. “This beats only for you.” He said gently. “We are mated. Forever and always, there is only one true mate. Even in death, even if someone else is found, this heart beats only for the one the Goddess gives Isabelle. You don’t have to fear the Horned One’s bastard.” He said with a small smile. I returned it. He meant it more towards Glitter, who purred at his words.
