The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 134
Bryson
The carnival music played, and the moon was full, but my mood was as sour as a wet blanket.
I drank my coffee with a snarl.
I hated Harvest Festival time.
Why did I have it start a day early?
I ate the carnival food with a growl. I cracked through the smoked buffalo bone with a chomp, getting ‘oos’ and ‘ahs’ from any who heard. I hated the greasy souse, but the forest was too full to go hunt. Plus, my mate and pups were with her family, and I wanted to stay close in case they needed me.
They didn’t but I leaned on a deserted petting zoo stand while everyone around me still enjoyed the night. There were rides, food, music, and the little animals were being fed treats by my mate and the pups ran around in big circles, followed by the King who slowly did rounds. He made sure they were safe, while I watched for individuals… but again that was not needed.
He could, in fact, read minds on mass…. As could I.
I didn’t like doing it, since it gave me headaches, but it was worth knowing what Rogues were up to, and I knew I’d have to run at least 7 or 8 of them off when this was over.
I also didn’t want to ruin my children’s time, as they Loved the attention from their grandmother, the Wolf Queen. They’d finally made their peace with my punishment, so I Knew the pack would be safe.
/Bryson I don’t know what you’re doing but you Promised you would behave!/ Chastised Isabelle in a link.
/I’ve done nothing. I just hate these things./ I grumbled. She likely felt how grumpy I was and thought that I was breaking my promise, even though she was about 3 yards away.
/Lighten up!/ She beamed. /In the morning you can run off any who want to make trouble before the bonfire tomorrow./
/…. I’m going to do a patrol just in case. / I linked a little annoyed. I could bet that with so many wolves around, someone was doing Something.
/Be safe./ She linked back, likely knowing that my mind was made up on this.
/I will. / I linked becoming my wolf after I left my pants by the goats.
I trotted deep into the woods, and I howled, though only howls of loyalty were replied. I hated to admit it… but I actually Wanted someone to try me tonight. I couldn’t kill them, but I Could kick their ass and run them off.
I snarled one of challenge out into the night, and the forest was silent. The only noise to be had was the rustling of small animals getting out the way, and the sound of a single pair of footsteps. I scented it was a Rogue, and I figured I would go and interrogate this strange wolf.
I trotted, then galloped somewhat excited, while I could scent their fear rising. They had not changed into a wolf, though they were throwing off their clothes so that they could. I could only assume they meant to double back for them later, but if I could help it, they wouldn’t. I weaved between trees, and the Rogue fell, then screamed when I skidded to a stop.
“Don’t Eat Me!!” Said the girl putting her hands in front of herself with one hand, covering her shame with the other. She scented no older than 20 at the most, and her golden blonde hair and yellow eyes of her wolf told me that she was trying to shift, but she was much too slow to.
She must have been a late bloomer to not be able to instantly shift.
I felt like an idiot.
I turned to leave, but she asked a question.
“Aren’t you going to eat me?” She asked.
[I don’t eat wolves.] I grumbled.
She then jogged behind me.
“Thank you for sparing me.” She managed to muster. She was terrified, but not so much that she wouldn’t talk.
[You will be gone before sunrise. Do not thank me so soon.] I growled.
“…. But the real festival isn’t until tomorrow…”
[If you have any sense, you’ll buy what you need and Leave before I go hunting.]
“I don’t have any money… but I wanted to enjoy the lights before I go… I was hoping my mate was out here…” She said quietly.
Ven became upset. /She is Weak and small. Let us help this one./ he said thinking of our pups…. I sighed. If I didn’t, he would nag me until I did, and if Isabelle found out… Lady Moon I would Really hear it… I let a long sigh out my nose.
[Follow me. I will buy you One ride.] I grumbled.
“Thank you my lord.” She said quietly.
[Alpha is fine.]
“I bet you’re wondering, ‘What’s a dumb little girl who forgot how to shift doing out here’?” She said imitating a man’s voice. I rolled my eyes…
I snorted for her to continue. She put back on her shirt, so she was decent.
“When I was little, well I’m18 so to you I’m still little, but when I was Littler, my parents lived in this pack, but they left when you took over and went to Arkansus… But I Know my mate is here. We went to school together and I thought he was cute-” I cut her off.
[That may have been a Crush.] I grumbled, seeing us get closer to where I left my pants. The goats were fighting over the belt, but I could tell my wallet was still in there.
My mate was also on a ride. I could hear her, and her mother screaming how much fun they were having with her father, though his was one of dizziness.
She whined. I looked back. That was the first time I’d seen the girl sad, and it made me feel bad.
/You should./ Said Ven. /I could not imagine life without our little mate now that we have her… and our pups. Be Nice./ He hissed.
/Why Do you care?/ I demanded.
/She is Small. A pack wolf no less… I am surprised that she made it here without dying./
“We’re here. Why not go look around while I get my wallet.” I suggested shifting, but her bubbly attitude was gone, and that was my fault. It was her first Festival, and I ruined it for the pup.
She walked away slowly while I shimmied on my pants, having to gently fight the goats for what was left of my belt and now whole filled jeans. I was getting taller, and needed a new pair but these would due. No one thankfully bothered my shoes, but by the time I got to her, Warrior Harlem was interrogating her because he was on duty. She was a Rogue, but I would fix this.
She started crying, which took both of us off guard.
“I didn’t even want to Be here, but I wanted to find my mate.” She cried loudly.
Now I Really felt like shit.
“It’ll be ok missy-” He got cut off by her balling.
“I want to call my dad to come get me.” She sobbed into his chest, and he held his hands up unsure what to do, but thankfully his youngest son came to his rescue.
“What’s all this?” Lincoln asked, offering the girl his ice cream. “It’s ok, I haven’t found my mate either.”
She hugged his neck, and cried, hiding her face in his chest. “Link!” She sobbed.
“…. Ashley?” He said as a question.
I was surprised. He’d found his mate… though I still felt a little terrible for ruining their moment. But now, hopefully it would be remembered in a funny note later on.
My mate, pups and her family waved while I shook my head. They were happy, and my little wildflower held a stuffed bear as big as she was.
“Awe.” Said the Wolf Queen, sliding her mate a twenty.
He giggled.
She grumbled in a language I couldn’t understand, but she likely cursed him out.
He giggled harder. “I am not always right. But I called this. You cannot take it from me.” He gloated, waving the money in her face.
She tried taking the twenty back, but he held it high over his head, and she could not reach.
“Damnit.” She said with folded arms.
[Granpa… can I get more paper for food?] whined Tyson. He really stretched out the word ‘food’... he wagged his tail with his head slightly tilted and I had to admit, no one could resist that…
“Of course, my small pup.” He handed it to him, and he snatched it, giving it to the Queen.
“Ha-HA! That’s my boy!” She patted him roughly on the head, and they left running to the frozen food stand.
“She taught them how to do the puppy pout.” Said Isabelle.
“…. I see.” I said looking at her spoil him with ice cream.
[…papa… can I Have paper for food?] Asked Grace just like her brother… It seemed the Queen taught them this phrase…. As the smallest… her little eyes were the hardest to resist.
[Me too!] Said Kaisen. They both wagged their little tails, really milking the ‘cute puppy’ appearance they held.
How could you tell a puppy no with an innocent face like that?
“…...Fuck me.” I said going into my wallet…. I was so soft now. I was almost ashamed of it.
[Yay!] They cheered jumping up and down. Isabelle had her turn with them, now it was mine.
I went to the frozen food stand that was by the rides, One of the workers when they saw them, recognized my pups. I’d also linked Harlem to give his son some more money, and I’d pay him back later since I Promised I’d buy her a ride. I didn’t mind doing Lincoln a favor though; he was a good kid.
“Ah back again.” He smiled, giving me strawberry cones on paper plates, as Tyson had already half finished his.
“Really now.” I said looking at Queen Gwyneth, who gave me a cheeky grin.
“A grandmother’s job is to spoil them.” She said without skipping a beat.
I couldn’t argue with her, I only gave her a small smile. I got meat for myself the next booth over. That greasy bone needed some bread and a soda to cut through it though.
