The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 96
Isabelle
“Thank you Alpha for stopping the Third Seat….” Hazel whispered sitting next to me on the couch. It’d been a few hours, and word spread like wildfire… it was only a matter of time before that gossip spread to my grandfather that Brutus was burned in a field and his ashes were sent to his family, while the pelt was on its way to Phillip…
My mate was completely unphased about it though, eating a steak with the pups. “I would not give what is mine. You are my Gamma’s true mate; I would not dishonor the Lady by ignoring her wishes.” He mumbled with his mouth full.
My mate and pups were eating like they’d never had food before… I watched in fascination…. Bryson was a sight to behold, biting and breaking bone, content with little hums, while my pups mimicked their father…. I had a sandwich. Now that they weren’t drinking as much milk, I could eat what I wanted, and right now, I wanted human food.
I saw Warrior Thomas with his mate, though he made no interaction with his son… weird. I left well enough alone though… I knew he moved to WaterMoon side of the pack after Gamma moved in HalfMoon side with us, so whatever reconciliation they had would have to be on their own…
“You should speak with your son before going on a long journey.” Said Bryson suddenly, but Alex protested.
“No Alpha, I respect that he wants nothing to do with me. He’d probably blame me if he gets a flat.” Said Alex bitterly, getting the attention of the merrymaking pack that had no idea what they were talking about. Now everyone was nosy.
Bryson made no more effort to force them to talk, but Hazel tried this time.
“It isn’t right that you shun your son for his fur color.” She said speaking up.
“He’s unlucky. The Goddess smiles on you and yours, but for others around him, he causes trouble.” He said flatly.
“Explain.” Demanded Bryson. “Because I’ve never had a problem, and I’m about as godless as it gets.”
His father sighed. “You have a title sir…. Those who have nothing after their name to protect them, may fall victim to the Unlucky of false white wolves…. He is my curse for killing on the Harvest Moon. It’s what happens to the family of a wolf who has a mate. For Me and his blood, he is actually unlucky. It isn’t that I don’t love my son, I’m just tired of all the accidents that happen because of him.” He said flatly.
“It’s just a superstition.” He grumbled, but his father growled. “Alex, do yourself a favor and look at your identification papers. I wouldn’t lie to Alpha…. now if you excuse me, Beta wanted me to deliver a pelt to Sapphire.”
Alex grunted loudly, “Go fuck yourself dad.”
“I love you son.” He said honestly leaving out the door.
“Sorry Alex.” I mumbled, watching my pups run to him with a toy. I wouldn’t be surprised if they sensed his stress. They wanted him to throw it.
He tossed it to Bryson. “Don’t be. All the stuff that’s ever happened to dad was his own damn fault. Like when I was a kid” He growled. “He used to drink before patrols, and when I was little he fell into a whole with a bear trap set by Rouges. He used to yell at me, blaming me for everything that went wrong in his life, but ultimately… he brought it on himself.” He grumbled, walking upstairs with Hazel.
I didn’t know if I should have went after him or not, but that was completely logical. There wasn’t anything magical about doing something stupid, then having that stupidity thrown back at you. He didn’t have a right to treat his son that way, even if it was true…. And I pulled out my phone. I looked up his name in the pack Registry, and he was Alexander Thomas, The Off-White. If he was truly unlucky, then it would have said so. It would have said ‘The Unlucky’, not a fur color description. I was skeptical.
“We should not interfere. They will have to do that on their own.” Said my mate, and he was right.
“Fine… In the meantime, everything should be delivered by sundown…” I said looking at the clock. It was only 3, grandfather usually did his court sessions at midnight, and Brutus would be missed. Phillip would have to report this to him, even though it wasn’t his fault.
I thought of all the dirty, off handed shit he’d done, and I just saw red. Bryson may have punched him, but 4 days of being in bandages and he would’ve been fine. I smushed his organs into his ribs… but he fucking deserved it.
“I hear you, wildflower. For now, let’s enjoy the calm before the storm.” He looked at our pups blissfully chewing his shoestrings, and picked up the main culprit. Kaizen complained in snarls, but my mate sat him on his chest.
He rubbed his thumb between his horns, essentially turning him off. He tried to growl, but he was still young, it was all bluff.
Papa no want. he complained, but Bryson chuckled.
Too bad. Stop eating my shoes, you already had meat. He smiled putting him down, and Kaizen laid there frozen for a second before wrestling his brother, who was still shoe chewing. Grace sat next to my feet looking at them and I swear she shook her head like I do.
“They’re learning faster… that’s their fifth word.” I said quietly. He hummed getting Tyson now.
“Yes, and those needle teeth are getting more destructive. They’re going to need new toys soon.” He showed me that the laces were ruined, but he didn’t really care. He used his claws to cut the ragged part, and tied what was left into knots. They would be slip on shoes now.
“Alpha… you have a challenger and I think the report said three others are with him. Some dumbasses from Kanzas.” Said Warrior Maisa rolling her eyes.
Bryson sighed loudly. “Did you give them the warning?” he asked.
“Beta tried over the phone… so he didn’t listen.” She said rolling her eyes.
“What territory.” He demanded.
“… would you believe me if I told you PineMoon Sir?” She looked at the door, worried for his mood, but Bryson was calm.
“Tell him if he wants to challenge, he needs to come to me. It’s too far away, and too much is about to happen.” He commanded, and she left upstairs to deliver the message.
“I’m glad you didn’t leave.” I admitted, seeing him put Tyson on the floor. He laid there for a second before starting with Grace, who didn’t want to play. She seemed to be listening to us, so I picked her up and put her in my lap.
“Isabelle, I know a plot when I see it. I leave the packhouse, get distracted, something happens down here, or worse, I die again.” He grumbled.
“Was it really that bad?” I asked. He looked at the pups with a steeled face.
“I don’t remember anymore… but time there is different I know that much.” He mumbled.
“Well, at any rate, I think we should try preparing for later?” I asked and he shook his head.
“What ever happens, happens. He knew better coming here, and I’m not lying if that’s what you’re suggesting.” He glared at me, but I patted his head. He practically purred at my touch, and rested his head on my lap.
“Alpha what is this?” I teased.
“You started it.” He teased back.
Papa no! squeaked all the pups, pawing at my legs.
Too late. He growled, and put his hand down on the floor. His hands were big enough that he could pick them up one by one like an elevator, and they climbed over his chest to me to ‘save him.’
Mama No! they yelled, licking my fingers, crawling over their father’s face.
“It isn’t a punishment.” I giggled, seeing them calm down, then sit on his chest. They seemed amazed that he wasn’t ‘turning off’ from my touch. It was mostly because his horns weren’t out, and I wasn’t touching the right spots. But they didn’t know that. They did smell a little scared though.
“They don’t think it’s a punishment; they don’t like the calm that comes with this. Right now, you could catch me on fire, and I don’t think I’d care too much.” He mumbled. He hummed in pleasure, but it made me stop. “Hold on a second.” He linked someone, and Adam came with the basket to collect the pups, who complained. They wanted to be with us, but for a little bit I would have time with my Alpha.
“I’ll watch them in my office for a minute Alpha, since the hot head apparently wants to come and fight you.” Said Zack at the top of the stairs.
“Permissions given. I trust you, but make sure Grace doesn’t get into your electrical cords. She’s the sneaky one.” He smiled.
“Do you want me to continue?” I asked and he growled softly.
“Please. This is nice.” He mumbled. He hummed in contentment, and the packhouse ground floor emptied out. No one wanted to interrupt the soothing of my mate, and having him play with my hair made me smile. I wished we had more time for this.
I smelled arousal. I saw his pants were a tent, but before I could tease him about it, he rolled over.
