It seemed when we got back, that the packhouse driveway was filled with all my ranked wolves’ cars from every pack, and they had brought beers and party food…. Lady damnit. They carried it into the house, and I managed to park in my usual spot. I didn’t know why it meant so much to me, but something didn’t feel right about seeing another car in the spot labeled ‘Alpha’.

“Alpha, Luna, do you like it!” beamed Beta Zackery and his mate stood with him holding his hand. Her pups held her other one.

“This is so much… but I appreciate the gesture.” I admitted, but my mate smiled wide. She mingled with the pack, while I took the pups so they could sleep, and afterwards they could play with all the toys that were left for them to play with.

I smelled the scent of an unfamiliar wolf… I didn’t like it. “Alpha Brutus of the Third Seat came to visit.” Said Gamma Alexander, holding his mate who was upset.

“Is there a problem?” I asked, but he linked me instead of saying it.

He came for Hazel… but Beta kept us separated from him, so he doesn’t know…. he sits in your office. He linked. I hummed crossing my arms.

I will not allow pack disruption. I snarled outwardly in my link marching upstairs. It worried my warriors, but when I got up, I didn’t smell council… strange. The male that sat in the chair across from mine drank a glass of wine.

He bowed, smiling as he did so. “Good morning Bloodborne One.” He smiled. It made my gums itch… I didn’t know this man, but I took it as a sign to be on guard.

“Do not call me that title.” I grumbled sitting in my chair. He stiffened, most likely feeling the growl from my wolf… he’d communed with the Lady… he was offended.

“Apologies…. I have only come for my grandson’s betrothed, and I tracked her here.” He rose to shake my wrist. I saw a flash of heavy winter, and bloodied footprints in the snow.

“If you speak of Hazel Thomas, you’re out of luck. She’s mated to my Gamma, and that is her true mate. By law they cannot be separated.” I said with crossed arms to try and ignore the headache that was forming.

He growled. “Such a selfish child.” He grumbled. “Then I came all this way from Ohiya for nothing….”

“And at an inconvenient time. Today is my pups’ birthday.” I said letting out my horns. They were itchy…. I didn’t understand why. They often just excited up there, but him seeing me scratch behind them made his eyes grow wide.

“Then I will take my leave.” He said silently, but I grabbed his arm before he could go anywhere.

“I don’t know why… but you have set off my instincts… I do not tolerate plots and schemes. If you make trouble, I will skin you, and you will be fashioned into a flag for your pups and pup’s pups to see, because I will send it to them.” I sneered. It was too easy…. No council member I’d ever encountered was ever this agreeable…. His eyes became a deep orangish red.

“You have my word.” He mumbled, and for some reason my eyes lost control and they created their own light. I saw a flash of a scared mortal woman with pup. I didn’t understand what was happening, other than my mate running up the stairs with the pups in her hand.

“What the Fuck are you doing here? Eat him Bryson!” She snarled, and I looked at her questioningly.

“…. why would I do that?” I asked letting him go, but she was blocking the doorway.

“He’s a troublemaker! He’s the one who got Phillip exhaled!” She growled, and her eyes became red… I growled deep enough that I knew it could be heard downstairs.

“Charred One… I have never been a problem to your people.” He said not knowing where to go.

“You make trouble everywhere you go for everyone else. My father told me of you, and what you’ve done… and I am not so merciful. You interrupt our joy for political gain. I bet you came here to get Hazel to mate Keith.” She grumbled.

“They would have been happy.” He said defensively, but she growled.

“No woman would be happy with that dick-headed turd other than his true mate. I know by now he’s found her.” She growled.

“He rejected her, in anticipation for Hazel… now she is with someone else…. I thought she hadn’t found her mate since she was from Wisconson…” He sighed, seemingly calming his wolf.

“Did you bring him with you?” I asked, to which he shook his head.

“I came alone…. Beasts are rare… and I heard that one was born of the Horned One’s blood, I didn’t believe it. I didn’t come to fight a demigod or upset my Alpha’s grandpup… This is beyond me.” He mumbled. “Please move aside that I may leave Luna Charred.”

“Not before I make a call.” She grumbled, and he became visibly pale.

“Alpha Phillip.” Said the Advisor groggily. I could practically see Brutus swearing in his thoughts, though I made no real attempt to hear them.

“Sorry for the interruption of you day off, but I think you’ll like this. Alpha Brutus is here.” She smiled evilly looking at him.

“Isabelle but why did you call me?” He sounded like he got up from bed. I could hear his springs creak.

“What would you have us do with him?” She asked, and he looked at her with pleading eyes.

“Honestly…. I would…. I would really like for you to skin him and send me his pelt… but it would only make trouble for you and yours…. don’t let him leave without at least a few broken ribs...” He growled.

I punched him in the ribs, loud enough for the crunch to be heard over the phone. “Mother-Fucking Shit.” Brutus coughed blood on the floor, while Phillip asked to be put on speaker.

“It’s the least I can do for all you’ve done Phillip.” I said honestly, and none had pity for the false chair member writhing in pain on the floor. I trusted the Frosted One… for him to have such a vendetta against this man, having his ribs broken wasn’t enough. But for the sake of keeping the council from getting involved with my life again, I would let him live.

“Fuck….” He wheezed on deaf ears.

“This is what being a snake gets you. You were my pack… we hunted together, ate together, defended the pack from hunters together… and you stabbed me in the back…. for a power I would have GIVEN you If you asked. I would have even given you my blood, or beseeched the king for his so you could have become an ancient one.”

“You would’ve never done that.” He coughed. “I Took my place because you didn’t deserve it…. you forgot what they did to me…. to my Omega mother…. How the fuck do you live with yourself to lay in the sheets with one, to willingly birth a mongrel…. To live a lie. Humans are meat. You wouldn’t fuck a dog.” Isabelle growled. He’d insulted Mini without realizing, but I didn’t expect her to put her foot to his broken rib and step on it.

“Leave the hound shifters out of this….” She snarled lowly, grinding her foot in his liver. It turned to mush, though his body was trying to mend the damage.

He laughed without humor. “Understood your highness…. I didn’t mean to offend.”

“Why do I feel like shit.” Mumbled Phillip.

“Because you know I was right…. No Human should choose what happens to Wolves….”

“What of Hybrids?” Asked Phillip. “Should we go on a genocidal spree? Reject and question the very goddess that gave us our wolves?”

“They did not choose to be less…. I did not choose this path because it was easy… I am a Betrayer, an Oath Breaker, and worst of all a piss poor friend, but I am NOT going to be chastised by the Adversary’s son, a fucking pup, and a wolf who forgot his purpose.” He sneered. “If you’d stayed on the council, the King would have had a mortal lover at his left, softening his heart, dooming us all.” He grumbled.

“And who better to rule than a woman beating piece of shit who hates himself as much as he hates the world.” Phillip sneered.

“I didn’t regret what I did… except I hate that you never woke up. You enjoy the human play-pretend world you shape in SapphireMoon… but what will you do when the King of All returns? What will You do if your pack reaches his attention and raises is ire?” He growled with no bite.

“If the Master comes and takes us all…. My only regret would be that I cannot go where my mate’s soul resides… all the time I have with her here is all the time I will ever have… she’s too weak to turn from what You did… I would have turned her… I was just waiting for her to consent to it.” He whispered, hanging up.

His words before he hung up stung me to the core of my soul…. Me and Isabelle share a similar situation …. But at least I think she’d get Venerable…

He drew his last breath, but my mate was unphased, taking our waking pups with her so she could crane to kiss me.

“Bryson I heard that.” She said sweetly, but I smiled softly.

“Go downstairs and unwind from this.” I kissed her on the lips.

“The pups don’t need to see this anyway…. and let’s not ruin the festivities.” She agreed, leaving the grizzly scene behind her.

I forced his body to shift, he was really no bigger than a pack wolf to be as old as he was, but it didn’t matter.

“Alpha… I was hoping you wouldn’t kill him….” Said Beta, who looked at the corpse with disgust.

“What’s done is done; send this to SapphireMoon in a giftbox after it’s tanned.” I stuffed it into a t-shirt so he wouldn’t have to get blood on his hands. I on the other hand got a mop, the matches, and linked my Warriors to have a bond fire ready. I would have an Omega Van drive the ashes to his family; and I would be ready for the bullshit that would happen because of it.
