The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 120
Isabelle
The sun was casting long shadows when the Warriors Makai and Thomas took Brutus’s twin girls to Phillip’s pack, but everyone was still mingling a bit. They invited me and Bryson to join, but we had other plans. Mini would pup soon, and I didn’t trust leaving the pack and having my brother left alone to help. The only reason things were going this smooth in the first place was that we were well warded here, but Queen Diana was still dead and punished for warding CharredMoon. She felt the Crown Prince should get it first, and until then, we couldn’t send them on their way. Also, Caleb was an Alpha now… I doubted that he would really want to live under dad’s roof as a visitor. There was also the fact that he would likely have a stronger desire to leave to check on his people.
One of the twins dramatically screamed angrily in the distance, but I didn’t care. I almost would feel sorry for them if not for the fact that they were just as bad as their father. All the things he’d done, they did too, though no one really saw them as much because he was the worst. He was the mastermind, but they were still murderers, and pup killers….
“We’ll be off then.” Said Alpha Phillip.
“What sweet music, aye old friend?” Elbowed the Second Seat, attempting to cheer Phillip up, though he held a scowl.
“I hold no joy for this Ron. I only want justice for my pups… my pack… my mate…” He looked at his hands, and white claws extended that were pin straight and about three maybe even four inches long. I’d never seen anything like it. “I was trusting back then you know. I let that snake into my pack, not knowing he was so full of hate…. I even tried giving him a second chance and it was my family that paid the price for it.” He grumbled, but his mate patted his back.
“Phillip they are with the Lady… and though I still hurt for them…. I know they are fine.” Said Susanna. He said something to her in a language I didn’t know, and she smiled gently. “I’ve already arranged for a small ceremony with Frigus, and the basement cell is already empty.”
“There’s a special place in hell for pup killers.” Said Bryson as if it was common knowledge, and I believed him at face value.
“As a Prince of Hell I’m sure you know more about it than I do.” Chuckled Phillip. “I’ll be off, and please for the love of the Pale Lady stay OUT of trouble…. Every pack you take is paperwork on my desk and complaining from other Alphas in my ear.”
“I’ll try.” He said shaking wrists with them both.
I held a silent worry for my pups because of that… I wasn’t even concerned when Grisham lunged at me and Mini, the only thing I could think about was what would happen to the pups? Bryson is a great father, but he is rigid. I doubt he would really show them the love I could if I wasn’t here…. There was also the fact that if they hated me, Mini, and our pups that much, how did I know that they weren’t actively accepting their deaths in exchange for one last attempt to kill my babies? More importantly…. Who was left behind that shared the same sentiments?
“Alright. Since it’s over, me and my mate will shift and go home.” Said Bryson.
“Fair enough, I need to be off anyway to organize the ending of Brutus’s grandpups should they turn out to be rotten as him.” Said the Second Seat. He looked sternly at the direction of Brutus’s twins, and then back to us. “Remember to keep your guard up. Your pack may be warded from humans, but trust no wolf who hasn’t sworn their loyalty…. even then keep a close eye.” He mumbled, looking at Mini…. It made me wonder if he knew, but his kind smile was genuine.
“We will.” Said Bryson, taking off his clothes and shifting, while I watched behind everyone. At this moment I couldn’t ogle him like I wanted, I needed to make sure that there weren’t any loyal stragglers around. Caleb chose to let Mini ride him, because he felt a four-wheeler would be too bumpy, and he could walk home gently. It was something I kind of wanted to ask, but this did not happen. He was Alpha, and more importantly strangers were around. It would make him look bad no matter his decision, because if he said no he would be a jerk, if he said yes it would look like he was whipped. I wouldn’t put him in that situation.
I finally shifted, taking one last look at it all. The sun was getting lower and it was time to go, but Caleb let Bryson lead. They followed about a nose’s length behind, taking Ron’s words seriously. They’d kept the twins bound, and they would be transported by some of our most trusted Warriors, since they’d asked for them without notice to bring their own transportation for them. No one would let them just ride in their back seat. No one was that trusting…. I wouldn’t be surprised if they found a way to weasel their way out of their punishments if not for our members taking them… because they would have to explain to Bryson how they escaped.
[I hear you little mate.] I turned my head to see Bryson even as his obsidian eyed wolf look stern as steel. [I know Caleb can’t hear you, but for now, let’s enjoy this small amount of peace.]
[Then for the sake of your sanity I’ll drop it. You have enough worries.] I linked. He gave a stiff nod, getting a little closer to press his forehead to the side of my head without breaking his stride. His horns were in the way, but I still understood what he meant.
“Look at the sun… it’s so red this sunset.” Said Mini. She was right… it was really red, almost like a ruby. It damn near encased half the sky…I could only guess the Lord of Light was disappointed that my best friend and my niece breathed, and I could also bet the Lord of Night was upset someone would try something on lands claimed by him….
I couldn’t get home soon enough, wanting to run faster, but staying in our small trio of trotting wolves to stay safe. If I ran ahead by myself, I would make Bryson worry. Right now, we were all on high alert. Who wouldn’t be? I killed an enemy that had a whole gauntlet of flunkies that now have no jobs. Anyone who is left will have to kneel to me, a woman, when they hold no value of us no more than the food we can cook and the pups we can birth. Everything we do from this moment has to be careful. On top of that our existence is a slap in the face to the ruling god of our world….
[I agree Isabelle, but if we become paranoid, it would be no better than this pack being a prison.] growled Bryson in wolf.
[Stop interrupting my inner monologue.] I grumbled with an attempted smile. It was much harder to do shifted.
[If I didn’t, you would still be fretting, even though we’re maybe 3 minutes from the pack treeline now.] He retorted, smiling at me with a toothy grin. I shook my head.
“Look.” Pointed Mini. “Sweet home away from home.” She smiled.
[I can’t wait to start tanning hides.] Said Bryson with a snort. [It’s been a while since I’ve done it myself.]
[Can you teach me?] Asked Caleb. I would like Grisham for my office.
[You will do his hide yourself then.] He nodded.
[…. Are you sure that’s something you should learn Caleb?] I asked, and he looked at me as if I’d asked a stupid question.
[I want the dirty wolf who tried to kill my mate, pup, and big sister on my fucking floor so every morning I can wipe my feet on his fucking back. He deserves nothing less. I hope the Horned One uses his soul for a god’s damn chew toy.] He grumbled.
Oh that’s the best part. Skinned wolves don’t pass on until their pelt is burned. If it rots away, their souls wonder until they are reaped.] Said Bryson.
“None of them deserve any less…. Killing pups… innocent wolves because of who they love… they’re all terrible people with no excuse.” Agreed Mini. She was always such a quiet submissive hound, it’s their nature… but today she sat on my brother like a Warrior on an ATV.
I didn’t say anything more. Caleb was still coming down from the aggressive madness of his wolf, dad warned me about that when I lost it… but I also knew my little brother…. He meant this. He was hurt, livid and angry. He had every right to be, and when we got close to the pack, he trotted up the stairs with Bryson, and they both shifted. He gently escorted Mini to me, and she silently cried on my shoulder. This was too much for a pregnant female… but I patted her back. I would be strong for her.
“NO!” I heard Rose scream, along with yips of ‘mama, papa.’
“They’re so FAST!” Said Gabby, still trying to catch them. I hadn’t even seen them yet to know they wouldn’t be caught. I shook my head.
They were faster than them, barreling down the stairs. running straight to my feet, all trying to tell me at once their day but the only thing they yipped was ‘want water’ wagging their tails.
“…. I let them swim in the tub while you were gone.” Said Rose rubbing the back of her neck, kind of nervous to what Bryson would say. “They played in the living room, got into my soup… and I gave them a bath sir, but they wouldn’t leave the water until we drained it.”
He let a small smile crease is lips, picking up Grace. “I bet she was the mastermind behind it.” He said confidently, and there was a firm nod given by Rose. She held her small pink baby in a blanket, and when Mini saw her pup, she scrunched her nose. She could smell the silver off her pup. Almost all the she wolves in the packhouse pupped when I did, though Rose’s pup got it the worst since she almost died for me….
“We’ll be off now.” Said Rose, giving a small bow to us before leaving. She’d almost given her life for me, so I trusted her... but I wished it was something I could do for her situation other than sympathy.
“Have you tried putting moon blessed saline as a water substitute in her baby formula? I don’t imagine it would taste good… but it helps as a treatment for those that have been long term poisoned in my father’s pack.” Said Caleb. He’d been quiet until this point, and a light bulb seemingly went off in Rose’s head.
“No your highness; I’ve only breastfed until this point, but I will bring this up with the doctor when we have her next appointment.” She said with a small bow.
“There’s no need to bow or give me special treatment. I only share information that we literally just discovered ourselves a few weeks ago.” He said with a small smile.
[Papa.] She said wagging her tail.
[…Did you make trouble? He asked in wolf.] “They weren’t trouble were they?” He asked Gabby and she looked the other direction.
[No papa no.] She said wagging her tail.
“A likely story, sorry you two.” He chuckled putting her down. “Wait… do you think she understood me, or that she wanted to be put down?” He asked with a raised brow.
“Maybe a little bit of both?” I said more as a question. Once on the floor she pawed at his feet to be picked back up, but he growled a firm no. They then ran around the room chasing each other, full of all kinds of energy I would let them burn off.
