My mate carried me, as there was no way I was going to make it in the snow covered forest back to the house without getting tired or falling. I couldn’t shift until I had the pups, so he trudged forward, like a train.

“I’m surprised you aren’t terrified of me.” He broke the silence, and planted a kiss on the top of my head.

“Nah, but give a girl a warning sometimes.” I told him, rubbing my hand on his stubbled chin.

He hummed a contented sigh, “If I can, I will.”

“Fair enough, and I don’t know how, but I’m hungry.” I complained.

“Do you still crave raw?” He asked me, setting me down. I looked down to think about it, and scratched my head.

“Yeah, but I’m not surprised, because that’s what I was raised on.” I told him, but when I looked up, he had a rabbit already. I frowned at him, but he had already dispatched it.

“He was right there!” He yelled, shrugging his shoulders. I took it, and he carried me again.

“Bryson your kill drive is insane.” I told him, eating my fresh food. It really was something that I craved, to the point to where I couldn’t digest human food at all anymore.

“It can’t be helped. Also, I was linked by Beta that there is an emergency council meeting to attend that I cannot get out of, so you will come with me.” He said casually, though I know my comment concerned him. He hated that he was different. He never said it out loud like that, but I could see it in other ways. Like now, he seemed to look a bit more somber after I had said it, and I regretted mentioning it in a way. He didn’t realize that that was what I loved about him. He opened the door of the packhouse with his foot, and kissed me on the forehead. I think he had heard my thoughts.

“I did.” He sat me on the couch, and everyone cleared out the living room. The clock in machine was down here, and if anyone wanted to get off early, they wouldn’t now, because no one wanted to run into my mate. He wouldn’t do anything to them, but they thought he would.

I could sometimes hear the thoughts of my pack since grandpa awakened my abilities early. I couldn’t summon said powers, but I knew I had them. I could feel it sometimes, like my wolf’s power was overcharged. I bet I was bigger too. “I’m still hungry.” I complained, and he shook his head with a smile.

My mate silently took two large steaks out the fridge, and brough them upstairs with us. He carried me upstairs, and he changed while I ate all the food he probably intended to share. Bryson was dressed, looking sharp, in a white dress shirt and black slacks. He shot me a playful glare.

“You know, it’s almost like I brought myself something up too, but now all that’s left is my plump little mate.” He growled with a smile and I threw a pillow at him, which he caught.

“My Lady Above you are so corny!” I yelled at the top of my lungs, seeing him smile harder. He was a bit warmer in private than in public. He had always been like that. He picked me up, and nipped my mark. I moaned a little, realistically we both knew nothing would happen. I had just eaten, and on top of it I was really close to pupping. So now I was a little bloated and sleepy.

“Yes, and you’re stuck with me. I’ve been working on my dad jokes and drinking beers while cutting the grass at 6am.” He said and slapped me on the butt. I growled at him. He ignored my warning. He was lucky he was my mate, otherwise I would have bit him.

I facepalmed.

I decided to stay in my semi formal maternity dress, since it was not only long, but also comfortable. It also takes forever to find something I can fit these days, but I didn’t want to order more clothes, because I wouldn’t need them. Also no one in the pack was as short as me, so no other she wolves would be able to use my hand me downs. Bryson carried me, causing me to giggle.

We went downstairs, to see that Zack and his pups and mate were in the living room. They played with the warriors’ little ones, and Alpha put a hand on his shoulder, holding me up with one arm. “I trust you to watch the pack while I’m gone, I might be a while tonight.” He told him, and he bowed.

“I will protect it with my life sir.” Said Zack with a smile. After Ven calmed down, there was peace between the two. They behaved almost like brothers, since Zack really was Bryson’s first and only friend.

“Little mate I heard that.” He said with a defensive glare. I reached my hand up and patted him on the head.

“Good, now put me down.” I told him, and he rolled his eyes.

“I don’t want to.” He kissed me on the top of the head, and as touching as it was, I didn’t want to be babied.

“Bryson that’s sweet, but let me down, it’ll make the pack worry.” I half lied. He was always carrying me, so no one would think it was abnormal. But at the same time, it kind of was. His obsession with carrying me around was nice but I could walk from the house to the garage.

I had to nearly beat him up so that I could walk to the car myself, I only needed help sometimes. He drove off, after getting me in the car. There was also the fact that I was about to be around a bunch of high minded Alphas who thought a woman’s place was with pup and on her knees. I dodged a bullet with my mate. He pretty much raised himself. Misogynistic mannerisms of the 1700’s weren’t taught to him.

“Little mate I hear you again. Yes, they were taught to me, though, I always thought it was bullshit. You are right though, we wouldn’t be compatible at all.” He said casually. “I actually quite like that on occasion, you challenge me.” He said casually. “But don’t get a big head that I said that.” He warned.

“Make me.” I teased, and he looked from the road a second at me. Glitter went from resting to alert, and I kind of felt bad I ruined her relaxation. She was already always on alert looking for threats.

“I shouldn’t have said anything.” He shook his head, smiling slightly. We rode holding hands until we got there. Yet he slowly began to feel more and more nervous. I squeezed his hand as hard as I could, and he gently tightened his ever so slightly. He pulled in, parking in a space that was reserved, and we got out.

He walked with a hand on my shoulder, and let his horns come out. He smelled more hostile than usual, meaning he didn’t trust anyone there as far as he could throw them. I could get that. I could also feel that he was a moment away from letting Ven take over in case someone tried anything. No one did. As he passed, they made way, or actually bowed, except for Alpha Opal, and one other one I don’t remember is name. As a kid, sometimes I would see dad meeting them via Zoomie chat.

Bryson ignored them, and walked to his seat.

“No hug for your old man Izzy?” said dad with a smile. I ran to him and hugged him as tight as I could, and I could tell that I had already pissed off most of the men in the room. He patted my head, and my wolf purred. She missed our old pack sometimes; it was only natural. I did too, but they had visited the month before, so I wasn’t homesick or anything.

“Alpha Kaiden.” Said Bryson. He linked dad something, and dad responded.

“Good afternoon, Alpha Bryson.” Said dad, letting me go, but holding my hand to sit between me and my mate. It seemed he didn’t trust anyone around me either.

The meeting started when the oldest smelling, palest wolf came in, sitting at the head of the table. He had some papers in manilla folders under his arm, and placed them on the desk, along with a large cup of coffee. I was served tea by an Omega, dad’s request, and the Alpha cleared his throat.

“I’m glad of all the regions I was offered to advise officially, and lead unofficially, that it was here, because I’m half ready to just throw all of you who motioned this out the window.” He said with a frustrated sigh, shaking his head.

“Alpha Phillip, they have the right to motion.” Said I assumed was an elder that sat on the opposite side of dad.

“Yes, and the first motion, signed by nearly every male in this room, was to have Luna Isabelle go home.” He looked frustrated, and it was ironic to me that the oldest man in the room had no problem with me being there. He smelled as old as grandpa. I outwardly facepalmed, though I didn’t mean to. It had offended many of them now, as they felt disrespected by me not just getting up and leaving.

“Why is a female here?” Demanded one alpha, and the rest followed. I pounded my hand on the table.

“I Go where I please. As Third Princess, you Will respect me.” I snarled, standing up, challenging him. He glared at me, and I glared back. Back up or not, I wouldn’t let someone intimidate me.
