It was Bryson. He was giving them a death glare, and they submitted immediately… how did we not notice him?!“This is my spot.” He said flatly. He didn’t growl, but he showed his fangs to them.

“We didn’t know Sir. Please allow us to leave.” Said Harry quietly, stuttering his words.

“No, please stay.” I glare at Bryson with all I had, and showed my fangs. He raised an eyebrow, but now he put down our gear and crossed his arms.

“They will leave.” He said sternly, not wavering his words and motioning the forest with a wave of his clawed hand. He let out a small growl, telling me that he didn’t like my disrespect. I tried ignoring him as best as I could. The problem was that he was a powerful wolf, and you can feel it. However, I wouldn’t be dominated so easily. I stood my ground.

“Bryson, they have small pups; they aren’t a threat.” I snap, looking him in the eyes. I had made him beyond pissed, I don’t think I had ever seen him like this with me. I couldn’t read his facial expression.

They are a threat. I don’t trust anyone out here. He linked with a growl to it. The voice of an angry Alpha in your head is not something anyone wants to feel. It’s so loud. It made Glitter submit in my mind. I needed to think fast before I made things worse. I took a deep breath, and there was a long silence, because no one wanted to set him off more.

“Oath to me that you aren’t a threat.” I blurt, ignoring him as best as I could. Honestly, his aggressive aura was intimidating me, but if I gave in, there was no telling what would happen to that family roaming around in the dark. It was too late to pack up and find another spot.

He is Alpha… do not make him angry, whined my wolf. I blocked her out; it was times like these where you have to override instinct.

Without hesitation Harry bowed deeply. “I, Harry Morrison, oath that we are no harm to your belongings, you, or your mate. We are only travelers in search of a home….” He said with conviction. No one would break an oath, and it calmed my stubborn mate down by allot.

Bryson cut his hand by closing his fist. “I, Bryson the Beast, oath on my blood, that I will not hesitate to skin you alive if you break your word.” He sneered. They looked like they had seen a ghost and it sent a shiver down my spine… I really hoped for their sake that they were not stupid enough to break this. They linked each other rapidly, but ultimately things simmered down after an hour or so. They were still wary, but at least they would be safe for the night.

Their pups were too busy digging in the dirt to notice how tense the adults were. Honestly, I was glad of that since they were so young. I would have hated for them to see that. I set up the tents while Bryson marked off the territory for our safety. I could see him, he was only going around the clearing, but I still couldn’t understand why he was so unwelcoming to them.

“I’m sorry you and your mate fought because of us.” Said Kate sheepishly.

“No, it’s ok, he seems like he needs to learn to trust more.” I say with a small smile. The little pups ran in the field to Bryson and their parents started to run to them. I held my hand up to stop them, and they looked worriedly at my mate. He carried a large bundle of firewood under one arm, and 3 fresh rabbits in the other.

“Look at the cool sword I found!” The little girl beamed waving a big stick. “Mine is cooler!” Said her big brother.

Bryson looked at the pups with a face I couldn’t read. “You should show your parents,” He said flatly and pointed, making his rabbits sway with his motion. The pups really liked him, but he didn’t show any affection. It was as if he had never had a childhood…. or a really bad one. He walked to the makeshift log bench, sat and stared into the campfire, like he was thinking, and he wouldn’t answer my mind link. He put a small bowl of water near him, and tossed 2 logs on the fire.

He had absentmindedly skinned and pulled apart the rabbits with an effectiveness that made the couple uneasy, and I wondered what he was thinking about. I got a soup pot from the couple, and put the pretty perfectly sectioned pieces in the pot. Because it was almost winter, and we were in the forest, I didn’t think we had any vegetables. But without warning Bryson got up. He walked a little to the left of our tent, and pulled out some potatoes out the ground.

“Whenever I find vegetables, I try to bury at least one or two.” He said holding about 5 and rinsing them off with the water that was already near him from cleaning the rabbits.

We all ate together with our makeshift soup, which wasn’t ready until sundown. After eating, they were settling into their tent, while Bryson held me by the fire like I would run away. I could feel that he was upset, but I couldn’t understand why. I wanted to ask, but he seemed to be calmed by me just being in his arms, and I felt safe.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and gave him a kiss on the cheek. He looked surprised, and turned to me, kissing me softly on the lips. He brushed a small amount of hair away from my face and kissed me again and carried me into his tent. He laid me down on his soft bedlike roll inside, and hovered over the top of me, kissing me a little rougher. He growled a possessive, passionate grumble that made me heat up, realizing his firm touch on my hips.

“Bryson!” I whisper yell. I tried to escape, but he could hold me in place with one arm.

“I will not allow you to sleep alone around another male.” He said possessively, my body was pressed against his chest. It sent tingles down my spine to my core, and I knew it was affecting him too. He smelled my hair and growled a small rumbling of contentment. I could feel something pressing lightly against my inner thigh and I blushed, realizing what it was. He sniffed the air and snarled a sound I didn’t understand, holding me closer to him, before relaxing.

“Bryson why don’t you trust anyone?” I blurt, trying to ignore how he was making me feel.

“Get some sleep Isabelle, we’re hunting tomorrow.” He whispered gently in my ear, and began stroking my hair. It made me almost forget my question.

“… do you trust me?” I whisper. He was quiet, and he rolled off me to his side and pulled me close to him. It pressed my breasts against his firm chest. I looked up at him into his vibrant eyes, and he seemed to be thinking.

“I do; you’re too pure hearted to try anything…. But your lack of understanding of how things work out here concern me.” He said truthfully. “Now sleep, I don’t want to hear complaining later.” He said with a small smile, and it was hard to resist with him stroking my hair. He planted butterfly kisses on my forehead. His scent reminded me of the woods we resided in. Powerful, fresh, and cedar. It filled the tent, and I closed my eyes, listening to his steady breathing, but I was still awake.

I wondered more on his childhood, but I could understand why he didn’t want to talk about it. He was born an outcast, and I doubt any pack would ever accept him as just a member. He was powerful, independent, and behaved as an Alpha. He talked like an Alpha, ate like one, even walked like one. He reminded me every bit of a leader of the pack, and because of that he would be a threat to any Alpha that let him join. He would undermine their authority by just existing because he was probably stronger anyway.

There was also the fact that he was hard to read, at least to someone he just met. His eyes were always red, and red eyed inner wolves were rare. Only a few lines and very old wolves carried the color. And it was always assumed that he was either agitated, or he was lit up with his wolf, a sign of aggression. He was aggressive when needed, but for the most part, he was actually pretty neutral.

He could never interact with humans either, because he looked the tiniest bit…. too supernatural. He was almost 7 feet tall with red eyes that reflected the light back. They were beautiful and vibrant, like shining red rubies, but no human is born with that color. He also always had his fangs out, as it was his natural state, and someone could catch on he was a supernatural creature. The woods were his friend, his only friend… until me. I loved him no matter what he looked like, and I hope he knew that as his mate, I was serious. I would be with him, and I wouldn’t mind this life if it meant he was with me.

He was an Alpha with untapped, untamed potential, and I loved him. He made me feel like I was home again, and I slept comfortably in his embrace.
