The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 114
Bryson
In the early morning, before dawn, I was my wolf with Caleb, doing patrol. It was something I did with him now so he could have peace of mind. There was a Unit that did this for every pack, but I did this myself. All that I could scent myself I would, and all that I couldn’t I gave my old T-shirts to rub my scent on trees everywhere else. I smelled like an Old One, and that held weight. Random attacks on borders dropped significantly. It was like for once they got the hint.
“Good Morning Alpha!” Waved a Warrior before shifting, and running with his unit.
I gave him a snort, getting on my back legs and biting into a tree as hard as I could, and I snapped it. I raked my claws down the sides, leaving deep grooves in the mature oak that was dying anyway.
What the fuck Bryson? Asked Caleb, and I gave him a small chuff of a laugh.
Something I picked up from Orekkeen. This is what the original unshifted ones did to show their size. It deters dumbasses too small to stand a chance. I growled.
Interesting. I wondered about the old trees on dad’s territory… some of them have old scars like this, though I can assume that was from my father’s father.
Likely, but I didn’t have Jentucky as part of my route back then.
He didn’t know what to say to that, but I nodded to him to follow me. I smelled the fox shifter. I only ran past her just to see if she’d adjusted. For her to be hunting out here, she was happy enough I hoped. People didn’t like my attention, so I wouldn’t press her.
Morning! She beamed and I gave her a nod. I don’t know how I understood her fox dialect, but it was clear in her high-pitched yip that it was a greeting.
Wow she’s so small. You did a good Bryson. Said Caleb.
I’ll do good when I get that punk’s head as my pencil holder. I grumbled. It would be something I’d have to do myself, but I had my mate and pups to protect, and Caleb’s too. He could handle himself with regular wolves, but he needed something more for everything else. I was that something. I had to be. The closest king was a three-hour drive away.
I shifted when I got into town, and grabbed a pair of bike shorts from the public bin we left for warriors. There was also a drop off bin too, as well as a small donation box for the laundry and tips for the injured wolves who wanted to help. It gave them something to do to help the pack if they could, and if they couldn’t, I wouldn’t ask more than they could handle. They served already.
“I have got to do this in my pack.” He mumbled, and I nodded.
“It was a suggestion from one of my Warriors. It took a long time to earn their trust enough to get proposals.” I smiled. I went into the coffee shop for the girls. They intended on staying in, and making plans for the birthing once they woke up. She was only four months along, but they didn’t want anything to go wrong. Caleb’s Betta, Derrick had also come to hand deliver documents and give pack news, and he waited for us in my office. He had as of yet to see me, and Caleb didn’t want to ruin the surprise.
“Morning Alpha Bryson and Caleb!” Beamed the shop owner. “You just missed your mates.”
“Lady dammit.” I chuckled. “I meant to get her a surprise.”
“They said the same thing, but here’s something they wanted.” He handed me a box of doughnuts. “I was going to run these up the hill myself, but I’m sure you’d rather be the hero.” He went to the back, and I could see him put the glaze on a fresh dozen. This was far too kind to go unrewarded.
I linked Zackery to send his son with my wallet. It was a school day, so he was probably already up. By the time he finished boxing them, the boy was here, and I gave him a 10.
“Sweet.” He beamed, running off. Me and Caleb shared a chuckle.
I put a twenty in the tip jar, because I knew that he wouldn’t take my money, and he likely gave them the coffee free.
We left, and I went up the hill, feeling light until I heard screaming from my mate and pups.
“Get ‘Um!” I heard, followed by pups snarling, and yips.
The packhouse was alive with small children attacking that poor Beta. I Don’t know what he did to deserve it, but he had a pup on each limb, though the smile on his face told me he knew this would happen. Even Libby was helping, though Zackery and Gabby were also downstairs.
“Holy shit Izzy I see why Kaiden said ‘you’ll see’.” He chuckled. “Boss a little help though…”
“You will get none.” He smiled with crossed arms.
They finally toppled him, and my pups licked his face while he squealed like he was dying a horrible death. I shook my head.
“I assume for everyone to be up, there must be news?” I asked, and the adults shared a look.
“I’ll watch your pups with Luna Mini.” Said my Beta.
Me, my mate, Caleb, and his Beta left mine to die, because they all turned on him, even his own daughter. Her teeth should be coming in by now too. I let that sit with me, knowing the bad news would sour my mood soon.
We all sat down, with me and Isabelle at my desk, and her brother borrowing hers for a moment.
“Derrick what happened?” He asked
“The Church got ahold of our number somehow. They wanted to know the address... I don’t know HOW they knew that, but I didn’t tell them anything.” He looked at his hands. “We are going to have to move….”
“No you won’t. The wards in place block them from entering, nor their contraptions working… Both Kaiden and Caleb partook in our Luna Fest, and have the blessing of my father as well. These lands are literally touched by the Night…. But I see your concern.”
“I bet Brutus’s pack did this.” Growled Isabelle, and I agreed.
“I know he did. His son is no match for any in this room, you included. They were no stronger than regular wolves to be honest. They held those seats by fear and influence.”
“Then what do you suppose we do?” Asked Caleb.
“I’ll go to the Church.” I said firmly, and everyone was against it.
“Bryson I don’t want you killed.” Isabelle shook my shoulder.
“I won’t be. If they want war, they will have it, but I will go in peace.” I grumbled. “I’m not the man I was, and who I am now is sure I can handle anything they have up their sleeves.”
“I still think we should let the Kings handle it.” Said Caleb.
“As it stands the only ones who know your secrets are preoccupied with my brother. But I know if they get involved in this, they will have no choice but to give a real reason as to Why they are intervening in disputes of a prince. If they help, the other 11 will want details, and I’m sure the Holy Seat would be more than happy to share.” I growled.
“Why is everyone after my fucking pup?!” Snarled Caleb. His eyes were red, and I internally sighed. Ven was livid and ready to go, but I held more sense than that.
“Because if she isn’t born, or dies before he claims her, they think it’ll be a blow to the supernatural world. They think that Xaxas will sleep but If he’s Anything like me, if something happened to that pup, he would know it, and he would kill everyone. The only reason I sit in this seat is Isabelle. I don’t give a fuck who I have to make a deal with to raze this world and bring her back if anything happens to her.”
“And I’m still here, so you sit tight. I think anyone going to talk to them would only be a trap, or at the very least an improved one if a major target, say the Son of Their Enemy shows up; they might act.” Said Isabelle.
“Then what do you suppose.” I asked, and she leaned back.
“Talking won’t work with fools who have cotton in their ears; I suggest letting your father himself intervene.” She said interlacing her fingers. Before I could protest. “Think about it. He sent the High King for a Tattoo… he’s obviously invested in Mini’s wellbeing.”
“Maybe we should get an outside opinion.” Said Caleb.
“I know what I’m talking about. I was brought from the dead to raise my little ones. I doubt he would mind.” She said, but my horns itched.
“No…. we shouldn’t rely on gods to do men’s work.” I said out my mouth, but it was almost as if these words were not my own. I shook my head. “I should be the one to do it. If they follow me, this land is officially claimed by my father. We’re still working on Caleb and Kaiden’s since Queen Diana is still in Lia’s punishment realm.”
“She should be back next moon, but we don’t have that kind of time.” said Caleb.
“I know. I was thinking I’d do it tonight. Swift retaliation shows them that we aren’t screwing around.” I grumbled.
“I’ll go with you.” Said Caleb.
“No. If I die, I can be revived.” I mumbled. It was still a secret for even my mate about the additional life, because if I used it, my mother could be outed by it. “Isabelle, I need you to braid my hair after I shave my sides.” I got up, walking to the bathroom.
I knew it was only a matter of time before they tried this bullshit with me and mine since I know Brutus’s son likely gave them my pack information as well.
