The Prisoner’s Princess Chapter 123
Isabelle
Just remember, the old taste bad. I thought to myself while I held a fake smile. We lived in a rural part of the South, I was expecting too much… There was also the fact that I was in a very male dominated industry… and also the fact that to humans I was just another woman, not a literal princess of an entire peoples, mated to a demigod, no better yet, a god inside flesh…. If Bryson heard, skins would be flying.
The fea approached me without respect, shaking my hand as if I were dirty. Once she’d shaken my hand, she retracted it and put hers in her pocket. “Nice to meet you.” She said as sweetly as the Unicorn Queen would, though her politeness was truly curdled milk.
She was no taller than me, though she was a tad darker skinned with raven hair that legitimately glittered. She smelled like she was some kind of supernatural creature. Her scent was magical, so I would guess some species of fairy, like sprite or pixie, but I wouldn’t say anything around him. I could also tell as she scrunched her nose, that she was a snob, but I wouldn’t say anything unless she started something.
“Well that the pleasantries are over, let’s get to business.” He said charging ahead. We shared a knowing look as we walked behind the old man to the office, another disrespect to me, as standing Alpha, I was to lead.
“I understand, maybe next time I’ll just call.” He said walking to the building since he already knew where to go. I was a little perturbed. My wolf was upset, as we weren’t being treated like a Luna…. And this guy seemed a little sexist.
“And it would likely be me who answered, prepared any proposals, and sent any invoices.” I smiled, and I could see Kat was about ready to rip this guy’s head off. I could handle myself. He seemed taken aback that I was outspoken. I would not submit. I barely submit to my mate, what made him think I would to him was beyond me. Was Noah an anomaly? He had to be I thought. He was so… so Noah that in my head I saw him as another wolf, not a human anyway. This man’s pompous air was stifling.
“Then I hope you know the red oak number I want to match the floors of the university building we’re making.” He grumbled under his breath as if I wouldn’t hear, so I treated it like I didn’t. He pointed to a truck that was hauling off a large shipment of oak, “That color, do you know what the number for it is?” He asked and I actually did.
“That’s R-123-b. Barista Brown Red Oak. It’s our most common species. The wood only needs finish to bring out that wonderful hue.” I said with a small false smile, but he didn’t return it.
“It seems so.” He said waiting for me to unlock my mate’s office.
We got in, which smelled like Bryson, Alpha, and coffee. I offered him some since there was a coffee machine and water bottles to use in there, as there was no sink.
“You and your husband must certainly love dogs.” Said Daisy, emphasizing the dog part.
“Oh yes, we have an entire pack.” I said nicely emphasizing the word ‘pack’, giving a silent signal to my detail to take a step towards her, making her feel uncomfortable. I could see my wolves were livid. To be called a dog was to be insulted on the lowest level… but the human didn’t know that. He also didn’t know that refusing my hospitality if he were supernatural could be terms for termination of business…. But to my unsurprise, he ignorantly refused, but we did get to business.
“I see your company ordered nearly seventy thousand dollars of lumber, and you’re here to repurchase another round of oak for the same price. I’m not sure if I can do that, as we had a surplus then, as everywhere from Ohiya to Arkansaw did too. Everything is back on schedule now, and what inventory we have may be regular price...” I said formally changing the prices to normal price instead of the currently 20%, and he nodded.
I see too why he had such a nasty attitude. When he bought the initial lumbar, Ellion’s death made us have to liquidate whatever we could get our paws on because we didn’t have the space and that wood rotted unnaturally fast. His death also meant the same thing for anyone in the business. Everyone pretty much either broke even or lost money, making a huge profit for people like him…. He was looking for the half off deal, but I’d never give him that.
“It’s why I wanted to work with your husband dear.” He smiled, and I held a growl, though I smiled back. Even the council members knew better. It was like he was trying to purposefully categorize me as a pup to make himself feel superior.
I logged into the computer’s sale records, pulling up his file, and seeing that he’d gotten a 5% discount on top of the double lumber order…. He wouldn’t today. I also checked the stock of the oak, and we had what he needed between two packs worth of forest that was already dried and cut. There was actually more than we could really store. “Here’s your invoice. I couldn’t apply the discount, but I gave you the difference in 10% extra precut wood.” I slid him the invoice. The only thing he would get today was the sales tax off and a little extra wood, meaning that he would pay for the wood regular price, getting half of what he initially got, and he could take it or leave it.
Bryson would understand…. Not all money is good money. I grumbled to my wolf who nodded.
He seemed dissatisfied. “This is fine… I was already told by my secretary about the price change.” He wrote a check and passed it to his secretary to pass it to me even though he was actually much closer.
I internally huffed and it seemed like a Warrior came from nowhere to stand at the threshold of the door to wait to speak. There were three more, all in shift clothes, but the human looked nervous.
“Boss we have a small problem.” Said the first Warrior. He was completely out of breath as if he’d ran all the way from the pack to the lumberyard’s office….
“I’ll leave the rest to Marguerite.” He grumbled, and I shook hands with him, watching him leave. He drove off, and she stiffened.
She looked like she saw a ghost. It had apparently never dawned on her that she would have to pay for her disrespectful attitude.
“I don’t take back what I said.” She grumbled.
“I wouldn’t accept it if you did.” I said back, taking off my shades to reveal my red eyes. They had been this entire time, but kudos to Glitter from not making me shift in this small office.
“I should have expected as much.” She said standing, and I did as well.
“Boss.” Said the second Warrior.
“I know it’s important. You are blessed you stupid pixie.” I growled.
“I could talk him into refusing to do business here you little bitc-” I slapped her in the face with my claws out.
“Ah! What the fuck!” She screamed as her face still burned, but healed swiftly. She held the cuts that became a bruise before they disappeared, surprised that I would do something like that, but I’d lost my patience.
“We don’t give two flying fucks about your business if slime like you run it.” I snapped. “Your only saving grace is that you would be missed by mortals. Get her out of here. The human didn’t know any better. But You do.” I snarled, though I had to eye the others not to literally rip her apart. To disrespect me was to spit in their Alpha’s face, and you could tell the loyalty in their genuine snarls. “You speak to the Third Seat of Shifters, Granddaughter of our King, mated to the King of the Forest. If you Ever come in here disrespectfully again, no amount of magic will save you Pixie.” I snarled, this time it shook the windows.
“As if I care! Stop talking, Netazma!” She said some magical word waving her hand, but nothing happened. Every wolf rushed in front of me in that small office, and Kat got her by the arm, slamming her into the ground.
I understand now why the Fea Queen died… she’d sneaked something I don’t think even Uncle Jerold knew into her spell…. Because not only did guns and such not work here… but magic didn’t either.
She screamed when Kat snatched her arm harder to make her get up, and there was definitely a crunch, but I pretended not to hear it. The others followed behind her flared up.
“She likely tried to curse you. By law she is yours. What do you want me to do to her? I could hold her while you claw her face?” Growled Kat.
“I’ve never tasted magical creature before.” Suggested Warrior Commander Paul.
“I’ll have to wrap this up. The check’s good. It was nice working with you.” I hissed. “Get her out of here.”
I waited until the secretary drove off, and let them address me. “Luna, forgive us for the intrusion, but the matter at hand is honestly dire.” Said the Warrior that had come in earlier. “The Luna of Crimson moon went into labor early.” He said worriedly.
“I’ll be right there.” I said getting up, sending this stuff to Delta to look over quickly and I drove this time with Kat in the passenger seat.
